What fandoms don't agree with each other/very divided?

Picard is greatest captain there is!

FAK YOU!!

It was Janeway

Stargate SG-1/Atlantis vs Stargate Universe
(I liked Universe, damn you for getting it cancelled)

LOST

It either got more and more interesting as it became more about the sci-fi and fantastical stuff and less about people surviving on a mysterious island, or it became more and more of a clusterfuck of nonsense as it got further away from what made season 1 good.

Ahh true.

I wonder if Hinduism is similar.

Hinduism is even 'worse'. Not in the sense that they kill eachother, but Hinduism is in fact more of a collective of totally different religions with people worshipping totally different Gods. One kind of Hinduism can differ more from another than Christianity differs from Islam.

Edit: Battlestar Galactica. People who love all of it vs people who love the first two seasons.

Kamen Rider/Super Sentai

Normal people vs Shōwa scum.
Kidding, I love me some Shōwa toku, but anything that changes itself annually is naturally going to have a fractured fandom.
.

I seriously think people only like Kirk because of Shatner's "so bad it's good" delivery.

To be honest I didn't really see the whole "so bad it's good" delivery when I watched the original show recently. I guess it's the fact that pop-culture has exaggerated Kirk's mannerisms for decades now.

I don't fucking understand it. I'm almost always standing in the center of any schism in a fandom. Example Modern Sonic games vs Genesis Sonic games, wtf I appreciate both.

What are they arguing about? I have only seen first four seasons (I plan to watch more) but so far I don't see what's there is to argue about.

Cass x Sam vs. Cass x Dean

Anyone come up with a fandom that isn't a complete clusterfuck of disagreement?

Metroid?

There's the occasional outlier who thinks Prime is bad or Other M is good, but for the most part, Metroid fans just seem to agree that the series is generally awesome (except Other M).

Super vs. Prime should be a divisive question, but it seems to result in more responses like, "Well they're great, but I prefer _____" than, "_____ is great and _____ is shit!"

Though whether the Metroid fanbase is large enough to be considered a fandom is certainly up for debate.

Nah. Like you said there isn't a clear consensus in that fandom either. Some think Fusion sucks, some think Prime games suck and Corruption divided even the Prime fans. Actually now that I think about it even Echoes did that because it was much harder than Prime.

Not on GAF but everywhere else:

"Not enough Dean! Not enough Sam! The girls take focus away from Dean/Sam! Castiel hogs all the story! Dean and Sam don't talk as much as they used to" and so on and so forth.

In other words, nonsense that should not even be important on a series called "Supernatural".

Sports

Football (soccer)
American footbal
Hockey
Basketball

As in you may get a dad or uncle saying, the team of my era was way better than yours, to his son/grandson

Van Halen with the David vs Sammy debate.

I always felt kind of out of place as an Incredible Hulk fan because I was a fan from the tv shows, I had no interest in the comics.

Resident Evil

Proclaim you like anything else better than 4......

May god have mercy on your soul.
I used to post on the Resident Evil board on IGN. If RE4 was your favorite, you were considered an idiot. That board had a hate-boner for RE4.

I'd have to say comic fans, just reading that power girl thread right now gave me a headache . I was going to try to get back into them but with that community? No thanks

Oh comic fans bicker, but that thread is hardly symbolic of GAFs Comic OT community.

All of them.

This is the correct answer. Even here on Gaf, the Who fandom disagrees with each other. There's no fighting, thank everything, but still.

I've been in various fandoms for going on 20 years now. It's amazing and terrifying how vicious people can get over pairings.

Examples:

Spuffy vs Bangel (BtVS)

Dean/Cas vs Dean/Sam (Supernatural)

Doctor/Rose vs Everyone Else Ever (Doctor Who)

Fandoms I am not even a part of have made a super huge impression on me because of their infighting. Most notably, Harry Potter fandom.

Oddly enough, I haven't discovered very much infighting in Sherlock fandom. Maybe because the most popular ship has been basically considered cannon for like a hundred years? I don't know.

This is the iconic answer. The infighting over Seeing Red was legendary as you know.

I'm pretty sure there would have been mass killings on either side if the two would have ever met.

Yeah, I was there in the thick of it, boggling at everything. In retrospect, it really taught young me to just enjoy what I enjoy and not care about what everyone else thinks. Dear god people were vicious back then. You didn't even have to ship Spuffy, just have a tiny bit of regard for Spike's character and you were the evilest evil that ever eviled. It was kinda hilarious.

Edit: I just realized I typed Spangel instead of Bangel. I was so traumatized I couldn't even write the word!

Not only do comic fans hate each other, the comics industry itself hates the fans. And vice versa.

I think I would have stopped watching Supernatural at this point if they didn't constantly troll the fans. I think they actually love them, but the amount of fan trolling at this point should be the stuff of legend.

Example: A seriously crazy fan was stalking the guy who plays Sam, and screaming about how she was really married to him and everyone else was being mean by saying he was married to some other girl. To the point that she was tweeting other actors on the show and starting fights with them about it.

They later wrote an episode where the character Sam was magicked into marrying a fangirl.

As a microcosmic example:

Flash fans are deeply divided about which Flash is the best Flash. So you have Barry Allen fans vs. Wally West fans vs. Jay Garrick fans. It doesn't stop there however as with the New 52 re-imagination of The Flash we now have Barry Allen fans vs. Nu-Barry Allen fans as well.

Speaking as a fan, anyone who likes Barry Allen needs to DIAF because Nu-Barry Allen is the best.
