Started Valkyrie Profile but wasn't really feeling it, so instead I'll be playing Persona 3 FES.

Never played this one before. Started on Hard, so far so good, also the story seems interesting and the music is great as well. Always heard this one takes a ton of time to get going but I dunno, so far I find the pacing to be fine.

In preparation for November 20, I started to play Stellar blade again for my 5th playthrough :messenger_beaming: It is just me but I notice some changes, in the movement and even the graphics in my Ps5 slim. Or maybe it is just I haven't played the game for a couple of months.
And I'm also playing Silent hill 2 remake for ps5 slim.

Turok 2 remastered (PC) - This is one of those games that sadly could have reached higher levels of greatness, maybe even classic status, had it just had a little more polish. I remember reading that they were forced to make the game so quickly they never actually played it with an N64 controller. This is clearly a mouse and keyboard game.

The levels feel like first drafts that never got a quality pass. They are maze like and easy to get lost. However, progression objects are now clearly marked which is merciful and helps a lot.

I always enjoyed the game and but this remaster gave me newfound love for it. The shooting is a good time, Sir Turok has some great hardware.

You never played Nintendoland, Splatoon, Captain Toad, Mario Maker, Wonderful 101, Amiibo Festival… etc? Even ZombiU was damn cool use of the pad.

It’s been a long time. Nintendo land was a pack-in game so that was going to make great use of it. Zombi U I think it was the inventory screei had ZombiU, Splatoon, and Wonderful 101 but I’m struggling to recall what the screen did? Weren’t they just map/inventory screens?

The map/inventory was handy in Wind Waker, but then I remember Mariokart being a big horn button.

Overall I think it was pretty underutilized.

I played Persona 3 FES when it came out on PS2. It was my introduction to Persona at the time and for awhile I was a HUGE fan of Persona. I never played The Answer though. Whenever The Answer DLC ever get a massive price drop on Steam, I'll bite. Persona 3 still has the best story and my favorite Dungeon concept in the series. Hope you enjoy the game

Nothing much. At parents house for the end of the year till january, so I plugged the PS5 and downloaded Uncharted 4 and F1 2024 to play with my old man. He was blown away by Uncharted and like the story and characters a lot, especially Sully. So I'll probably download the whole Collection and play through the games while he watches and we have some good laughs.

All these years I had Black Ops Cold war in my backlog, I decided to install it on the PS4 Pro, took 7-9 hours to download, once installed, I was looking forward to getting into the campaign (never played any of the Black Ops games before..) but low and behold the campaign is "locked" and requires a separate download and not only that you have to install the other multiplayer components in first before you can even begin the installation of the campaign.....I never had this amount of hassle in the last COD game I played (Infinite war) why does it have to be soo complicated? Hell even Black Ops 1 and 2 probably won't be as bad...though I do wonder about Black Ops 6...

I haven't found a general thread in which I could ask for recommendations, so I'll ask here:

I want to play something like Destiny. I don't mind paying something, I just don't want to pay whatever Bungie is asking. If I understand it correctly I'd need to buy like a bazillion expanions (4 or 5 or sth) in order to get all the content, which is obviously ridiculous. Final Fantasy 14 didn't make me buy each single expansion either, and that's Square Enix we're talking about.

So is there something similiar? Halo Infinite is a dead mess last I checked sadly. PC btw, game should have a multi player of some sorts.

It might not really be like Destiny since I haven't played it, but if you want a game in which to collect a ton of weapons with a Diablo-like loot system and in which to shoot at shit in coop multiplayer, then check out Earth Defense Force. 5 is the best entry point while 6 is a direct sequel.

Thanks, I'll check it out. I know there's an active community, so that's definitely a plus, I just don't know if I'll click with the gameplay, never really gave this a proper look.

I kinda liked The Descendant, but that only really lasted for about two hours. Just feels veeery repetitve, very quickly sadly.

This honestly looks like a mess :D I'm sorry, I don't mean to be rude, just looks way too janky/fanmod-ish to me. I appreciate the suggestion though, thanks!

E: Nevermind, I decided to get Gamepass. Call of duty seems to be hot shit right now, I haven't played one for like 10 years. And also there's Diablo, which I also never played seriously besided for like 10 hours in d3. Maybe I'll even find some people on GAF to carry my ass :3 Call of Duty might not be as fun in VR as destiny, but maybe it does the job. Need something to wind off of Metaphor

What time is it?
Played a bunch more Echoes of Wisdom and wrapped up the desert and water temples. I'm still having a ton of fun and I love the sense of exploration and how you are rewarded for doing so. It probably has my favorite music in any game this year. I do think the combat can get a little tedious at times and managing your echoes can be cumbersome but those are really my only complaints outside of some iffy performance.

Playing Excavation of Hob's Barrow (2022) atm and am really enjoying it. The atmosphere is spot on and it's perfect to play during this time of year when it's grey and grimy outside. I'm about 2 and a half hours in and almost halfway, I think, so it's nice and short as well.

Bought War Within, got my Paladin to the level cap, and I have been doing a lot of Delves and world stuff. Looking at creating an alt. Probably a ranged class after leveling the Paladin. Although, I do rather fancy making an Earthen warrior.

Silent Hill 2 Remake
Crossed the lake and I'm in the hotel. Love this bit of the game.

Crysis 2 Remastered - Forgot how lightning fast the pacing is in this and how much it feels like a Michael Bay movie :messenger_grinning_smiling: :messenger_sunglasses: Also Hans Zimmer did that main theme. Hot diggity damn.

RDR 2 - It's like my fifth playthrough so Id really like to get at least one new trophy to put up on the board. Im thinking of going for collecting all of the cigarette cards. And it really pretty much is the best open world ever.

I bought Lies Of P on a whim, cleared the factory and man, this game just feels so fucking dull on every level. It's not that it's bad, it's very serviceable, but the amount this clones Souls is just silly and bland. There are quite a few sfx and enemy movesets that are directly ripped from Souls games, the levels consistently look like bargain bin carbon copies and the lore is like random Souls jargon generator with the word puppets thrown in.

I'm unsure why I bought a Souls clone right now honestly but I loved The Surge for example so figured why not. It has some cool, small ideas of its own here and there but I just find it boring as fuck. Strike 2. Also bought Octopath II and hated that. Damn man...

I just started black ops 6 via gfn and I’m not sure how this is going to go. My dpad on my 8bit ultimate controller seems to be unresponsive in this game.

Lies of P and Octopath II are some of the best games I have played recently. I can't wait to see if they follow through with the teaser at the ending of Lies.
:messenger_halo:

I just finished Alan Wake. I found all the manuscript pages except five and I still have no real grasp on what the hell was the truth in the story. I'm going to try nightmare mode and see if those hidden pages explain a bit more. It was a fun game! I enjoyed Quantum Break more, but that's probably because the story made more sense and the balance between story and action more heavily favored the former.

My copy of Alan Wake still has the unused DLC code, so I'll give that a try as well. I checked into the remake of the game, but they never added HDR? Seems criminal, and makes it not worth buying.

Next up on Xbox will be Ashen. I am still going with Xenoblade Chronicles on Switch and Ys Nordics on PS5.

Neighbours from Hell
Playing Visions of Mana and it's decent so far. Not great, but solid. However, this is a major peeve of mine, where games continue to give you tutorials like 5+ hours into the game. It disrupts the pacing and I find it incredibly annoying. If it's just one tutorial or something when you get like a new vehicle or new gameplay thing is added that's fine. But not when they do it every hour when you're well into the game. It's like enough already come the fuck on.

Mafia Definitive Edition. I'm only on Ch. 5, so I'm just getting rolling, but I'm enjoying it so far. This one is a lot more cinematic than the second game, which is where I started. It has fully fleshed out characters, good acting and writing.

This is a great series. I should've given it a try a long time ago.

Just finished Shadows of the Damned on PS5. Started it on Switch but restarted it after getting the Pro.

Have a few games to move on to. Will probably pick Robocop with a side of Slitterhead.

Trails through Daybreak (up through day 1 of chapter 2)

Another Falcom game. I originally planned on holding off until February when Daybreak II's scheduled to come out, but I also want to finish catching up on their catalogue (and update my music database doc). The new leads, Van and Agnes, are easy enough to like, and it's very obvious to see where Falcom spent money on (certain) better animated and directed cutscenes. Conversely, it's easy to see where they cheaped out - VA performances for side characters only in many non-critical cutscenes is so distracting (and there'll sometimes be the occasional one-off line that is voiced for some reason). Edith, and the environments in general, are big and bustling, and you can't talk to every NPC anymore but that's as much by virtue of increasing the number of NPCs in the game and less Falcom cutting back on writing for them.

The experience has been a rollercoaster. The prologue and start of chapter 1 were fine enough, and I liked exploring the new town and getting into the groove of a new Trails arc, figuring out how everything and everyone pieces together in the greater picture. The rest of chapter 1... I did not like so much. Feri fell completely flat for me - I did not buy the pure, innocent, kind mercenary personality. I also hated Agnes' Genesis device apparently listening in on the gang's conversation and glowing in response to plot developments to tell them what they should do, a trend which is continuing in chapter 2. I'd have been a little more alright with it if Van or Agnes said anything about this being really weird, but they just rolled with the inanimate object reacting to them talking. That said, I've liked chapter 2 more so far. Feri's better when the game's playing up her 'sheltered yet battle-trained' personality elements while not focusing on the 'we're telling you she's a real mercenary, guys' part, and the Edith segments in general have been the most fun (even if I've left the city only once so far).

The leaps in tech in-universe have really been something, and gotten me thinking a bit: Namely how well-adapted Edith is for motor vehicles. Their presence and the limitation on use of cars has been touched on before lightly in Crossbell and moreso in Heimdallr, where the point was made that such an enormous and old city simply wasn't designed for street cars and so they could really only run on the main avenues dividing the city districts (and relying on the city rail buses otherwise). Edith's got a highway system! It's something I could accept in the Trails universe as I've already accepted that tech itself in this world grows in leaps and bounds, but a thought did cross my mind when Van commented explicitly about the new jumbotron by the railway station that maybe showing just a few WIP construction sites around the otherwise pristine cityscape would have been a good idea. Same feel for the movie theaters actually which Van says have been around for years, but I think I can roll with it because the tech hasn't leapt to modern day yet. Afaik, movies aren't streamable on the orbal net, and it's little holes like that in their societal development that are ever so different from our own that keep it plausible.

One of my more unexpected complaints is with the menu UI actually. Mainly that there is so much going on. My gut reaction is that it feels more designed for functionality than ease of use, as you sometimes have to jump to different directories' multi-layered submenus to change what seems to be a similar element of one system (i.e. your orbment setup). I had similar problems with other recent Trails games too for the same thing now that I think about it, but those complaints were isolated to the shop menus at rest points that allowed you to shop/customize.

Music's been a downgrade so far, but that's to be expected. This is my first real Falcom game with Koguchi in a prominent role, and he's doing alright. He clearly has a preference for piano and jazz and lower energy tracks, and he does those fine. Sonoda is, sometimes, running on fumes, but he keeps in step with Koguchi for better and worse. Haven't heard enough of Jindo's stuff yet but he's usually amazing. I am immensely satisfied with the music mod I installed that swaps out all of Singa's crap. By Reverie, I'd kinda accepted that a chunk of Trails music would be awful, and I'd tense up before every boss or mini-boss encounter for a cacophonous deluge. No longer the case. I think there's one mini-boss track in the mod whose lead synth is kinda rubbish, but I don't go into Daybreak's battles expecting the music to suck. It's nice.

Daymare 1998 & Super cyborg

Both have me hooked in their own ways. Juggling between the two.

Daymare is a loveletter to classic Resident evil with some modern minor influences sprinkled inbetween into it. Puzzles aren't completely mindless and require at least some degree of thought. Also, its nice how quiet the protags are for the most part. Will do a "daymare" mode playthrough at some point.

Super cyborg is a simple yet challenging classic run 'n' gun Contra clone. No lengthy story introduction and just throws you straight into the action. Tight and thoughtful level design that requires precision. Currently, doing a "hard" mode run.

Chapter 4 in Alice Madness returns. This game is in dire need of a remaster. The art direction is great and the level design is creative and fun. The story is as surreal as it gets and the devs does justice to the Wonderland- franchise and lore. But the game suffers from extremely poor performance. The frame rate is all over the place, often dipping to probably sub 20 fps when it gets hectic with lots of enemies and action. Screen tearing is wildly prevalent which is distracting as hell. It's also quite stuttery and the controls are iffy due to the constant frame drops. The lock on targeting is broken.

It's a shame. The game can look quite beautiful at times, with gorgeous back drops and very surreal imagery. The combat and exploration would benefit from a resolution bump and fixing the frame rate to stable 60 fps, making it a joy to play. In fact, it would be an immense improvement. The game would transform into a piece of art as it is wholly unique in it's concept and design. Now, it's just frustrating due to the untapped potential that lies within it.

Just about finished the game. Last boss to go.

Bought Secret of Grindea today. Been trying to get it to work on Steam Deck for a while. Just won't work at all.

Why didn't anyone warn me that Ashen is one of the worst games ever made. Yikes. Combat is boring. Items are boring. Story is boring. Voice acting is dreadful. This is why I hate buying digital games. At least it was only $7 or something.

A couple of months ago I bought Quake 1 and Quake 2 off of the Playstation store
for $5. I've never played either one. Been getting into Quake 2 on my PS4 Pro. It's been a long time since playing a FPS! The most challenging part has been finding a way through these maze like levels. There are a lot of weapons to find and use. Grenade Launcher, machine gun, rocket launcher, shotgun, and more. Quick saving is great! You can save your progress any time anywhere. No searching for a save location. Game looks good and runs smooth. There are enemies that are tougher than others, but so far nothing like a fromsoft style boss fight. I consider it casual entertainment. Its been fun enough to keep me coming back for a couple of hours of quick paced first person shooter action in the evening.

My daughter wanted to play something with me so we started and finished Tchia. I know it has a option to tone down the violence, but, sheesh, some of the stuff in cutscenes is pretty damn gnarly for the kids - the tonal shifts reminded me of a movie called Okja. Daughter loved the game, I probably would have dropped it myself, because there is just not enough challenge and the world is a bit too big for a game where you basically collect new costumes. Another reminder that for the most part xbox has a better hunch at picking indie games as their timed exclusives than playstation. But I am glad we played it together. 6.5/10

Took a peak at my backlog and decided to play a few oldies back to back. Doom 3 and Spec Ops: The Line. I know I dabbled in Doom 3 way back in my PC days, but was disappointed back then and didn't play much. I really like both games now. The Line is basically a real world Gears of War with silly gung-ho dialogue, tons of atmosphere but it is a fun shooter. Shame, it is not 60fps. Doom 3 is clearly a big influence on games like Dead Space. Playing on veteran difficulty and let's just say it hasn't been too easy. While auto-HDR on both games is not perfect, I fucking love that the feature is there on XSX. They should keep on adding it to new games that don't have HDR.

I had this weird feeling that Dirt 5 will leave GP soon so I decided to finish all the races in the campaign, just for the sake of achievements. It still looks pretty good and I like the feel of driving. Gives Forza Horizon rally vibes.

Still going through Persona 3 FES on hard.

This is going to take me quite a while, I'm dying a LOT. Probably the hardest SMT game I've played so far (played Nocturne on normal). I'm getting one-shot more often than not and the fear for Hama and Mudo skills is higher than ever.

Still, making progress. I love how the game is paced, feels faster than 4 and 5, and I love being able to do student shit during the day and dungeon crawl on the night, feels like I never have to put one above the other.

So yeah, a bit of pain sometimes but still, lots of fun. Can't wait to see more of the characters and story, this might turn out to be my favorite Persona game so far.

ps: Jack Brothers, best skill ever.
