[Sept Terrion Of Nothing]

After a long time I craved strategy game and wanted to swim in charted waters (again). Started Dawn of War campaign again.

Brothers and sisters; they were really making games in 2000's.

Evet without any enhancements (mods I mean) it is so superb. The voice acting, the story and the detail on EVERYTHING else. So so good for me, just as I remembered all those years ago. The game feels like full of glass, like a heavy thud. Not empty glass, like a hollow.

I want to encourage people to occasionally flesh out their impressions into something thread-worthy, and then post in the gaming forum. I know this thread is intended for people who just want to write a couple sentences about what they've played, not create a separate thread, and that's fine. I'm talking about the smaller subset of people who post detailed impressions here that could easily be shaped into something thread-worthy, a LTTP perhaps. I notice that our Gaming forum is mostly filled with threads about business or hardware, with maybe a couple of OTs of high-profile releases. Most of the game-related talk goes here, where most people don't see it, and there isn't much back-and-forth.

Just a suggestion. I'm not saying anyone is doing anything wrong by posting brief impressions here. I've done that a lot myself. I'm just suggesting that if you have substantial thoughts about a game to share, consider making a thread out of it, rather than filing it here. We could use more game discussion in the Gaming forum. Cheers.

Just beat the Temple of Seasons. Crickey, I love this game. The aesthetic, story, combat, townsfolk, crafting system, and skills are all perfect. The cherry on the top is getting your own little house to build, customise and decorate.

The entire Once More system was build around that you couldn't control your party members, this why only MC can switch to multiple Personas to fill the different role and why same party member can attack again after hitting the weakness.

I have been swayed by the praise for Star Wars Jedi Survivor, so I decided to finally play Fallen Order. I went to the shop today, and bought both PS5 games on disc. I started up Fallen Order today.

I don't know what I was expecting, but it wasn't this. I am on the second planet, and I swear almost the entire game is platforming. The same, dry, tired platforming that we have seen since Uncharted almost 20 years ago. "ooh slow down time so you can jump across moving platforms", how quaint. "ooh, now you can blow open all those glowing red walls that you've seen for the past hour". Soooo metroidvania of you.

I'm not impressed. Worse that that, this has to be one of the most boring games I have played in my life. The platforming is boring. The secrets are boring. The "loot" is boring. The story is boring. I don't know if I can push on. I am considering, for the first time ever, setting a game to "story" difficulty so I can just blaze through it.

What on earth did Jedi Survivor do differently to warrant the 9.5 review scores?

bonus rant: Unreal Engine sucks. This is a PS4 game running on a PS5 and there is still massive geometry pop-in during cutscenes and even some traversal stutter. Screen space reflections are dreadful as well. If I had a time machine, I would go back and hack Epic, deleting forever the source code to this goddamn engine.

Survivor has a lot more platforming.

Played some more of the Metaphor demo and I'm just not sure it is for me. I sort of hate the main character design and his characterization early on isn't endearing him to me.

Tried the Dynasty Warriors: Origins demo which seemed more in depth than your average musou game, but also a little bit more difficult and I wonder if that will ruin the power fantasy for fans of the series. It's never really been my cup of tea though.

I'll probably start on Dragon Quest III tonight. I need to retire an RPG from my massive backlog of RPGs.

Just finished RE3 Remake. I'm really happy about the decisions they made, especially toning down Nemesis. Mr. X is the one thing I hated about RE2R, because I have zero interest in getting chased by an invincible enemy when I'm trying to explore and take in the atmosphere. I'm also glad there was enough ammo/supplies to make killing most of the enemies viable. Wasn't bothered by the length, took me about 9 hours to go through and could get through it significantly faster if I knew what to do/where to go. I only wish the environments were a little more open.

I realize this is probably not a popular take, but I prefer this style of RE game to low-resource survival/chase sequences galore. I wasn't a fan until the original RE4 which is one of my favorite games of all time. Haven't played RE4R, RE7, or RE8 yet but planning to do so. Also need to go back to RE5 (played once before and made it halfway?) and RE6 (never bothered due to the reputation) before they get remade, which I assume is on the way.

Fallen Order started out alright, and I enjoyed some of the metrodvania elements until I realized how pointless all of it was. Just ponchos all the way down. The crashed star destroyed was an awesome set piece, I had the most fun there, but overall dropped the game halfway through when it started doing the stereotypical Star Wars bullshit and the story/environments completely lost me. Some say Survivor is a lot better but I just don't think I can stomach the Star Wars brand anymore. No matter what, they all end up retreading the same tropes and the games don't feel like they are made with love, it's design by committee the same way Marvel has been handled.

More Baldur's Gate III. Just defeated a pretty tough Optional Boss Bulette with its latest update legendary abilities:

• 100 temporary hit points.
• While it has these temporary hit points:
  • It is grounded.
  • Any damage lower than 15 will not affect it.
  • It can use Shredding Scales immediately after being hit for the first time in a round.
  • acid Resistance
  • Resistant to Slashing, Piercing and Bludgeoning

Jewel Match Atlantis Solitaire: Collector's Edition on PlayStation 5.

I'm a solitaire head. My mom played it when I was a kid and I've played it ever since. I currently have the MobilityWare mobile version on my phone but that's about it. I check out the console games as they release and they're all mostly shite. Old cell phone style solitaire is still where it's at, I guess. The classics never die!

I saw this game on sale and it is much better than I expected. I am very pleasantly surprised. I bought another solitaire game on PS5 from the same developer (Ocean Media LLC).

This game offers numerous and the expected classic solitaire variations in separate free play modes called Classic Solitaire, and Solitaire Variants.
It also has:
Supersize Levels (more on that to come)
Challenge Levels
Match-2 Levels
Sliding Levels
Mahjong Levels

These are all standalone from the main mode, but advancing in the main mode unlocks more levels in the separate modes.

And then there is the main Atlantis mode, where you play in stages along a path. Up to 3 stars are available in each stage based on clearing the entire board before exhausting the stock. This version is Atlantean themed so everything is themed around underwater and fish. The difference here is the type of rules and play, at least for me since I only ever play Klondike.

The Stock and Foundation Pile is as expected. But the rules are a bit different and so are the face card piles. Several piles are on the board and have a card face-up. You have to pull the face-up cards down to the Foundation Pile. If the card on the Foundation pile is a 5, you can play a 3 or a 4 of any color and suit. Then you do the same off of that card. Combos emerge up to 5x, which multiplies the score. Green emeralds are unlocked under the piles as they're cleared. and these are spent on pieces of the underwater castles that you can build into scenes. These scenes can be left in a screensaver mode, to watch the fish swim by from the main menu. More variants are added over time, such as frozen cards with a layer of ice on them that must be played twice to add them to the FP. Then ribbon cards are introduced and scissor cards are required to unlock them. Locked cards require cards with keys under them be played. Several more variations emerge as play and levels progress. This might be a common or usual variation on solitaire but I've never seen it, and I love it. I put the game on at the end of the night yesterday (while I was on leafy substances hehe) just to see if I got hoodwinked for my cash. Two hours later I realized I was supposed to be in bed an hour before that! It is just fun and fluid and nuanced.

Tonight I unlocked a Supersize Level. I turned it on for shits and giggles. It's a level on steroids! The same rules apply, but there are many, many piles to clear. Combos are unlimited in this mode. It is fun and impressive and now I want to unlock every Supersize Level and play them all!

If anyone is interested and wants more info, feel free to ask. I only started playing last night so I have not progressed the main mode very far, but I will do my best to answer any and all questions.

So, I finished my first ever Doom 3 playthrough. For the most part, the game still holds up pretty well and I enjoyed it greatly. There was a moment half-way through when the slower pace and the basic repetition of the same-y encounters started to get a bit stale, but the game basically changes gears soon after and stops relying so much on scares and focuses on pure action. It worked and played the last three hours pretty much in one sitting.

I recently found out that I never finished Steamworld Dig 2 so I got back to it and it still rocks. Such a pleasantly chill game.

Started Labyrinth of Galleria: The Moon Society...

It *rocks*!

Perfect dungeon crawling RPG. I'm enjoying the rather quirky story so far, I think the grinding is far better than Disgaea (although I've only played one of those and the story and characters for that were better than this game). I like how complex the mechanics are, I'm pretty sure I will not be able to min-max every character (which is sort of the point of games like these) but I'm enjoying the feeling of progression even after a couple of hours in.

It's a really nice change of pace from the more serious games I've got on the go (FF16 and Trails of Cold Steel 2).

Highly recommended if you want something quirky and unusual. I guess it's a high-70's/low-80's game for most people, but it seems to land nicely for me so I'd give it a high 80's/90 score.

Finally picked up FF7 Rebirth.
I'm still pretty early (just got to Junon) but so far I've been enjoying it. The more open design is nice after how linear Remake 1 was, and I've liked the new mechanics they've added to the combat (I've always liked teamup attacks).

That said the horrible image quality in performance mode (base Ps5) is bothering me more than I thought. This is the first current gen game that I think just straight up looks worse than the previous last gen entry. It seriously has Switch tier IQ in some parts, but I'm still sticking with it because when I change to the quality mode the combat just feels so much worse ...and combat is my favorite part of the game.
Even if it would be a bit jarring I almost wish it had some hybrid mode where exploration runs in quality mode but then it automatically switches over to performance when you get into combat.

I already retired a 2H Adventuring Nord, but I want to play another one. The focus and roleplay will be on collecting all Nord lore appropriate gear, avoiding owning a home (I always build the Falkreath home, I can't recall the name), and generally doing Nord things. I love winter and the cold, so I will lean into the cold elements of Skyrim and the Nords when possible. I am on PS5 and I have mods installed.

Elder Scrolls Skyrim is great but i have an other game which is a mod for Skyrim

Completed The Plucky Squire tonight. Short and sweet, mostly. The game holds your hand too much and the combat is simplistic, but it's still very creative and charming. I liked the different powers and the minigames a lot. Worth a play through if you have PS+ Extra, not sure if I'd recommend a standalone purchase though.

Tinkyin Completed and platinumed the game. Don't sleep on this game guys. A super charming 3D platformer with Pikmin mechanics. Been on a platformer kick since Astrobot and this one actually delivered in terms of quality. Not sure why I didn't unlock all outfits as I got the platinum on all races and collected everything but not a big deal. Story is a bit whatever but everyone should check it out nonetheless. 9/10

Lake Decided to give this one a try since I heard it was a pretty nice and chilled experience. It's very clear from the start that this is a low-budget, janky and unpolished game but still pretty enjoyable. It starts out pretty strong with the first few days of delivering mail making you meet the townsfolk etc but by the end it feels more like a chore. The weight of the choice of staying or returning to your old job at the end doesn't feel very deserved. I like these kind of narrative driven games but not sure if this is one I'd recommend even if it has its charm in certain ways. 6/10

Played dragon quest 3 HD for almost 9 hours yesterday. Played hooky from work.

1st it's fucking beautiful. Better than the 1st octopath. Playing on hard mode which isn't really hard at all. Set everyone except Hero to auto attack.

Definitely old school for good and bad. Mostly fetch quests but I'm enjoying it more than say FF1 or 2.

Finished Blood Omen Legacy of Kain. Did a rather quick playthrough. 10 hours. Figured I'd platinum it but messed up and advanced beyond the point of no return. I'm quite tired of this game by now. I've done 4 playthroughs in the span of 2 years. Even if it's one of my favorite games of all time, I don't want to play this anymore for at least a decade. But overall, this re-release is quite improved in terms of quality of life features over its PS1 counterpart, which made playing it a somewhat smooth ride compared to playing it on my PS3. Give it a shot if you're nostalgic or if you never experienced it before. It holds up quite well, especially in terms of story, lore nd characters. It's a pretty dark and epic journey. Vae Victis!

Idk if it helps but i love to play Necromancer in games. I'm not sure if there is a necro build in Skyrim but thats what i would want to play. Just my two cents.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak (Switch) - First time I've played a game in the "Trails" series, and really enjoying it so far. Heard it was a good place to start in the series, but you can defiantly tell that there is a lot of references that probably mean something to people who have played other entries, also was a little bit confused at first with some of the systems regrading the shards n such, but after a little trial and error everything clicked. Combat is really cool, story has been pretty interesting so far. Lots of side quests.

Finished Visions of Mana. It was a solid RPG but way too long. A game of this style has no business having that many side quests, most of which are total garbage. Also the final boss was underwhelming.

It felt much more like a Tales RPG than a Mana RPG. Like, the difference between it and Trials of Mana is vast. Doesn't even feel like the same series.

I started Still Wakes the Deep, and I have to say I'm quite bored so far. I'll see if I stick with it.

Oh hell yeah. Played the 1st soul reaver ages ago but never tried blood omen. I'm gonna have to get this on my next psn store slurge; just spent $211 getting some bangers this weekend.

Also dino crisis is another I'm gonna have to grab. Instead of playing this i was probably playing jurassic park on the snes. Not even the good jurassic park cause that was on genesis

Having only played Sekiro and Dark Souls 3 I'm having an ADDICTING time playing Dark Souls 1 Remastered. I literally played for 7 hours (just to get back into the flow of playing these type of games). And immediately restarted from the beginning (to get all items I've missed LOL).

Now 15 hours in and I FINALLY got the Lord Of Vessel (warping bonfires). Compared to DS3/Sekiro where you can warp automatically from anywhere. It felt good to earn it!

Also watching House of The Dragon just keeps me with the vibe of Dark Souls. Look at Viserys with his gold mask, this shit looks straight out of a DS game!

Halfway through Cereza and the lost demon. Never been much of a Bayonetta fan. Played the first game and thought it was rubbish so I never played the rest of the sequels. But this game is very different. It has a unique vibe to it, both in its art style and gameplay. You control two characters at once, kinda like Brothers: A tale of two sons, and the presentation is more like a fairy tale childrens book with a narrator and pages that flips whenever there is a cut scene. Beautiful graphics and an amazing soundtrack makes it for an audiovisual treat. The puzzles are fun and clever as is the combat against the different enemies you encounter. But the best thing about it is that it carries the spirit of Okami. It feels almost like a spiritual successor. It's a really good game and got me hooked from the very beginning.

I preferred Dredge of the two fishing/diving games that came out the same time. I couldn't get to grips well with the twins tick style aiming of Dave, sorry I have Dad reflexes these days and lack coordination for twinsticks

If you haven't tried Dredge I fully recommend it as a chill fishy time

Having only played Sekiro and Dark Souls 3 I'm having an ADDICTING time playing Dark Souls 1 Remastered. I literally played for 7 hours (just to get back into the flow of playing these type of games). And immediately restarted from the beginning (to get all items I've missed LOL).

Now 15 hours in and I FINALLY got the Lord Of Vessel (warping bonfires). Compared to DS3/Sekiro where you can warp automatically from anywhere. It felt good to earn it!

It holds up pretty well with mods. Can't stand the no teleport bologna though. Even if you can easily glitch yourself into Sen's Fortress without ringing any bells and beat Ornstein and Smough within 2 hours it is a lot of hoops to jump through for a quality of life feature that should have been available from the start. Luckily some mod authors felt the same and fixed that.

P.S. I remember being afraid to relinquish the goblet under the Firelink Shrine for fear of losing warping feature.

Loaded Open Roads and finished it in one sitting. Nothing special, a no thrills, mellow walking simulator with no puzzles but it was kind of cool to go through a story about generational traumas, disfunctional families and divorces through a female perspective.

If you haven't tried Dredge I fully recommend it as a chill fishy time

Loved Dredge. They nailed the creepy atmosphere in that game.

I actually did a bit in Dave the Diver last night where the hooded guys from Dredge come into the sushi restaurant to order the aberrations you can catch.

I started playing Diablo 4 recently, since it's on Gamepass. I never played Diablo really, only Diablo 3 for like maybe 10 or 20 hours with a friend, which was fun.

I'm like level 22 or something now and chose a sorcerer. Am I missing something or is this game both boring and braindead? I don't mean to be argumentative, I wanted to like this, but it's just soooo dull? The world offers nothing of interest, stuff you find on the map (chests, trees) is mostly worthless. So you basically only go from objective to objective within the main story. The story by the way being absolute ass, so obviously you wanna skip that. All you're left with is the "gameplay", which is like one inch away from being one of these auto afk type games for mobile. It doesn't matter in what way, form or order I use what skill. I could roll my head on my keyboard and win. I pretty much can just spawn a hydra and win.

like I understand this is very early game, but I genuienly don't see how people find this engaging. It's a chore.

Sonic Generations is a lot of fun. And I actually have not enjoyed Sonic that much since the OG games when I was young, but I like this one. I appreciate the hub style format. Any other Sonic games have this format?
