What is a worst Mario game ever?

Mario is missing let’s just say I was disappointed that Christmas, not only did I fall off the new bike I got but I got one of the worst pieces of shovel ware ever made!

Nintendo Magazine system (the official Nintendo Australian mag) gave this game a good score! I never trusted them after that despite the fact I was a kid!

Wasn't that a farmed title? Right around the time Nintendo was farming out the classics, see: CD-I Zelda.

I thought Mario's Time Machine was worse, I actually had a limited amount of fun with Mario's Missing, completed it in under a few hours.

I could never play it for long enough to finish it, what happened in the end?

Where was Mario?

Hmm. Mario is Missing on PC was much better.. as an educational game. XD

edit: well obviously bowser had him in the end XD

Jesus, I was like 8 when I played it. All I remember is taking pictures and giving them to some sort of Booth.

I never did give the SNES one a play. I got the PC one as a gift even tho I wanted Lost Vikings PC D: It basically consisted of running around town/taxi-ing and catching koopas that stole many great historical items. Then you call up the location and answer questions/historical about the item.(which can be found in the info pamphlets at said booths) It was pretty fun I thought as kid. I actually wouldnt mind messing with it again someday <_<

I loved that game back when I was a kid. I remember my cousin bought it and he was equally letdown, then I started tinkering with it and figured out what you were actually supposed to do in the game. I remember we sat there for days playing this. It is a pretty awful idea for a Mario game, but as far as edutainment, I think it's gold. I still remember how much weird fun we had traveling around the world collecting those crazy artifacts and answering those questions.

Music is wonderful too, all kinds of remixes of classic Mario tunes with all kinds of foreign touches.

If we're talking about ALL games, then yeah, it might go to Mario is Missing.

If we're talking strictly platform games, then that goes to Super Mario Sunshine easily.

All the Super Mario Bros. NES games were good. Super Mario World was good. Yoshi's Island was decent, although it got boring as shit towards the end (saved only by the fight with Bowser, which was awesome). The Super Mario Land series was good on Game Boy. Super Mario 64 was great. That basically leaves Super Mario Sunshine was the worst Mario platform game ever.

And whoever said Mario Pinball was close, too. That game is horrible. I don't even think Nintendo bothered supervising that one.

Knocking up Princess Toadstool. Note she doesn't show up in a game for at least another nine months.

It IS DEFINATELY the Mario CDi game. I don't know where to find movies but I know that one website has a lot of screens (was it canadian gamers or something like that?)

The game that should have been one of the worst but I actually enjoyed was Mario Teaches Typing :lol

IIRC, Luigi beats Roy (the "final boss") and runs into Mario's cell. Bowser jumps in and tries to stop him, Luigi drops him into a rocket and blasts him out of the castle. I THINK that's how it goes.

Mario 64 is pretty mediocre, if only for the fact it's a stopgap on the way to the godliness that was Mario Sunshine.

Super Mario 2 is the worst of the platformers. It's just not near as fun as any of the others. And while Sunshine is great, Mario 64 is definitely superior, just by presentation alone.

:lol

By what? The lower-quality gameplay, sound, and graphics?

Also: SMB2 (JP) is a pretty shoddy attempt, if only because it was a complete reiteration of the first. Doki Doki Panic was pretty swank, though.

No, by the fact that you could actually tell it was a Mario game (besides Mario himself). Mario enemies, universe, characters, music, etc.

I just realized that Super Mario World was the last Mario game that I truely got excited over. I used to be such a Mario fan and Nintendrone. Then I grew up and got a PSX woo! :p

Mario Sunshine has some of the very best 3D platforming gameplay ever. People who think otherwise were either hoping for Mario 64 2, are nerds who live and die by "2D 4EVA!", or wouldn't know truly good platforming gameplay if it bit them in the ass.

Well, at times, it was absolutely fantastic...but a lot of the later level designs were EXTREMELY weak. So, despite the flawless controls, navigating some of those levels was nothing more than an exercise in tedium.

True, it was also the most unpolished Mario game ever. I still had a lot more fun with it than 2D Mario Incarnation #8.

The worst Mario game is Super Mario World.

Incredibly short, but long enough to discourage immediate replayability. Saving is for suckers.

96 levels short?

Super Mario World is my Favorite Mario game!

ROFL. Okay someone finally did it here at GAF. Said something so incredibly outrageous I actually fell out of my chair laughing.

P.S. Since your likely under 14 and grew up with psone and that is your only reference to gaming I guess I have to understand such statement but like rest here said, no way true mario fan couldnt tell sunshine is weakest mario platformer of all time.

I only played a few moments of Hotel Mario (which seemed like an elevator action knockoff) and my only experience with the edutainment titles was Nintendo Power, but from actual games made for Nintendo systems where you play Mario to have fun (or try) my choice is Yoshi's Safari. It doesn't have Mario in the title, but you play as him astride Yoshi's back in the simplest, easiest light gun shooter I have ever played. It includes token platforming and all the enemies are from other Mario games. It was, however, the last appearance of the Koopa Kids I am aware of until Mario & Luigi.
