Anyone know what's up?

Probably a lot of people being vocal about their unhappiness with the new hires. It's just been a day; I say give them a fair chance.

To shortly sum up what's going on, internet(small, vocal minority) is mad they hired two white males, Dan Ryckert and Jason Oestreicher.

EDIT: And yeah, I'll add that people on the other side of the fence are being rude to others. It's a shoddy situation.

Guessing some members of the GB community lashing out at people complaining about GB hiring white males.

Definitely about the new hires, but has anyone been vocal about the issue "in the name of Giant Bomb"?

Ah, I see... so it's another case of people on both sides going too far.

Giant bomb users aggressively attacking people who bring up the lack of diversity in the staff, highlighted by the two white dudes they just hired.

People pulling a CliffyB (
GAF are c**ts
) condemning an entire community over 1% of it's users.

Said community (understandbly) doesn't react well.

EDIT: At least, that's the shitstorm part, the earlier, more contained criticisms are pretty justified in my opinion.

A couple of women spoke about it (the new hires) on their podcast, sounds like they weren't happy but don't take my word for it as I did not listen. From what I gather, a bunch of dudes jumped down their throats about it and must have gotten pretty offensive as my twitter feed is full of people saying "C'mon internet, stop being disgusting", etc.

Yup pretty much and I'm guessing that there are attacks from people defending giant bomb and attacks from people attacking giant bomb.

A few people felt stilted that the new hires were two more white guys, on a site that often takes a progessive stance on social gaming issues. (Especially some of Patrick's work). They vocalized their criticism on the forums, and it's turning into a really dirty argument devolving into slurs. So now some of the editorial staff is trying to directly curb the nastier side of the argument.

You can see a slightly-less nauseating version of the argument in the Giant Bomb OT.

People on Twitter are critiquing their decision to hire two more white dudes, when Patrick Klepek in particular has been talking about the importance of diversity for quite some time. There's an appearance of hypocrisy and a refusal to actually put their money where their mouth is. Members of the community took to twitter to harass these people in the worst ways, because of course they are.

It's a sad fucking day for Giant Bomb fans of every stripe.

Some people on Twitter have expressed disappointment that Giant Bomb hired another two white men. Some of those people have been less than polite.

A section of the Giant Bomb audience has responded to these people less than politely.

Sounds like GB doesn't want people defending their hiring of 2 white males. I guess they realize it's a little hypocritical for them (although I'm sure its been mostly Patrick) criticizing stuff like Sony not having women at the PS4 announcement and other diversity issues in the industry and then turn around and hire a couple of white dudes.

What the fuck? Seriously? So they have to hire a woman even if they have more qualified people wanting to be hired? Those kind of internet feminists aren't even about women's rights now, it's about finding a fight where ever you can find one. The "Go fuck yourself" proves it. It's like poking a bear then going "oh look! It's slashed me! How dare it?!".

Edit: I should point out I'm not talking about all feminism. Just the people who use it as a weapon to start fights.

Whoa. Jason really got himself out there, I remember him from VgEvo and the InDis podcast.

Yeah, that was my thought too.

But I didn't follow the issue: is there anything else underneath?

Some people are harassing Samantha Allen (in a sadly misguided attempt to defend GB) for expressing her opinion about the GB hires. Seems she was hoping for more diversity.

I'm hoping that people hire the most qualified person for the job, despite gender, race, color, sexual orientation, religion, political views and so on.

Anyone who has listened to one bombcast, watched one quick look, or read anything these guys have publicly released would know they are incredibly kind non-hating people.

The idea that the hires were anything but rational decisions is ridiculous.

If this is a true sample of how this person (never heard of him/her) usually acts towards others on twitter, I have no problem with people being rude in response.

Edit: I'm talking about people being rude to the Samantha person. Not the person asking the perfectly reasonable question.

I wasn't implying anything... I just wanted to know what's going on :\

I meant from those Twitter pics (and that other user implying that GB-GAF is involved). The implication is obviously not baseless, since people actually are, unfortunately, being harassed.

That reply from Samantha absolutely ridiculous, as is the chime-in from Shawn.

First off, the question has a legit answer.

Secondly, they didn't say that it was the ONLY qualified person, but the MOST qualified.

This is such a minefield. I feel like I can't say / think / feel anything on the matter without being accused of discrimination.
