ESPN says "Fuck it, let's sell it as a hate crime and make some cash from these sheep."
Bubba Wallace called skeptics of the hoax "simple minded people". That's what Jim Jones called people who didn't want join his Jonestown cult.
They're literally selling a lie. All religions do this, or all religions minus one - the one you believe in, do this to make money.

They found a noose and immediately thought it was the work of the almighty? Reminds me of that scene in 'Joan of Arc' where they rationalise the sword being in the field.

It's funny how you can't see in the shit u say about religious people also apply towards yourself.
If its a scam its a scam, it has nothing to do with religion. Unless u think believing in something = religion. Then u are also part of that religion.

I think you’re onto something. We now need 2 definitions for religion:
- personal beliefs or lack there of in something greater than yourself
Or
- societal organization used to control and manipulate the populace based on their personal beliefs.
The first is what religion is supposed to be, and the second is what OP is referring to, what religion has become pretty much the instant of its inception.

Edit: Scratch that. This song is exactly the same as that ESPN propaganda tweet. They're both songs used to leverage emotion in order to make money from the true believers.

People don't necessarily want the truth, they just don't want to find out they were lied to. They will resist such a revelation.
Additionally, sometimes the truth is destructive and not fit to be disseminated. A lie can do better things for people in such instances.
Finally, an idea's relation to truth often has little bearing on its power, because perception is reality. The idea that truth is intrinsically powerful, self evident, and good is misguided.
All of this said, I don't think that religions serve no purpose, are inherently destructive, or necessarily spread pure lies. I think there is something there, a kernel of truth embedded. It's watered down and distorted probably, but maybe as mankind advances we can remove the facades to get at the meat of the matter without losing our minds.
