What is SCEA doing with the Destiny of Spirits Beta

But Pokemon have much more depth than this game lol even digimon world 3 is better than this. Oh well not my type of game (ftp) time to leave this thread and let you guys enjoy the game ;)


if I delete the game will my beta chance goes back the pool? Sorry I used up one of the slots.
Digimon World 3 was a great game! World 2 and 4 however, were disgraceful.

I posted this in the other thread, but my impressions. Yes I didn't watch the videos, knew hardly anything about this.. but even if I did.. I'd be disappointed:

Not a card game, nothing like MtG, no story that I can see so far.

Impressions so far:

Tutorial is long, boring, and holds your hand too much.

This could be an iOS/Android game... it is all TOUCH BASED. Yes, all touch.. those sticks and buttons.. not used.

There seems to be zero story that I can tell. There's 3 kinds of "currency". Orbs, Summon Stones and Spirit Points. Orbs cost real money, you can't buy them yet.

Fucking loading, loading loading.. every time you change a screen. Fucking loading.. change a tab.. loading. Loading, loading, loading. I know it's beta.. but damn it's so slow to navigate around.

The battles are ultra simplistic, which I did expect. Still, that's the whole game outside collecting the spirits by summoning/hunting...

I'll keep at it for a bit, see if there's more to this.. but seems like a total dud.
 
Guys you aren't missing anything, seriously

This is literally ,no exaggeration, the same kind of game you'd find on facebook or Kongregate

There is very little gameplay here, It's just really basic turnbased combat with some rock paper scissors.
If you expect something like king's bounty or final fantasy or something with some depth, this ain't that... at all..
it's ALL skinnerbox and designed to be very inconvenient
-redoing levels gets you like 10 percent of the reward of doing them the first time
-you can't heal your units unless you wait for hours for them to regenerate or pay real money
-you can buy the strongest units right away by playing lottery with the 'superior summon' lottery with real money(paid for summon roulette with different units)

There is only touchscreen controls as well

I assume this game is a port from a kongregate or other f2p whale minigame site or from facebook?

This type of game has no place on the vita, not in this form
It follows the zynga school of development where the entire game is designed around extracting as much money from the player as possible, having you nag your friends for friend invites for benifits and preying on your base instincts for false sense of accomplishment.


If you are expecting something like puzzle quest or any other upgrade/unlock skinnerbox rpg with some actual gameplay, this is not that, you will have to look elsewhere for it.
Here you fill bars/increase numbers only for the sake of filling bars and increasing numbers, there is no gameplay purpose.

I love turn based games like king's bounty, I loved puzzle quest, so it's not like this couldn't have been my type of game...
 
Anyone knows how get more of those brown orbs? And I hated that tutorial.

Well, kept playing another 45 mins since that last post, but I gotta agree a lot with SneakStephen above.

There's very little "game" here... and with the location type hunting stuff, this would actually work better as an iOS/Android game.. where people have those on them all the time... pocketing my Vita doesn't happen.. and then I'd have to be on wifi.

Even then, it's just not a compelling game. I'm not all anti-F2P as I've played a lot of them and even got a hooked on a few (never have paid). A good F2P doesn't just rely on it's theme, it's got to have an underlying hook that draws you back. Be it the sense of accomplishment on clicking on something that took time to build/grow (ala Farmville, Monopoly Hotels, Tiny Tower, etc). A sense of reward in delivering some form of premium currency to make it not feel like 2 games one pay, one free. A compelling actual game as the core (candy crush, puzzles & dragons). A sense of progression, that you're moving towards that next stage, that offers something new.

This game seems to have none of that.

Now, I bet people will play because of the theme.. but even then the theme is weak when actually playing.

They could have just ripped off SMTIV's system of merging and summoning and it'd be 100x better than what this has.

There's not even decent backgrounds to the fights.. there's really nothing on the theme but the actual spirits.. nothing through the menus, the world map.

Music is even poor.

Try it for yourself, but I wouldn't waste time.. or having to delete stuff off my memory card to make space for this.

I really enjoyed it. It's like many other F2P strategy games but more japanese in design with the melding of monsters and whatnot. Also as it stands in the beta I don't see why I would ever even want to spend money.


It's not GOTY material or anything but as a F2P game... i'm fine with it. Pick up and play for five minutes type of stuff.

I had the EXACT same experience and opinions. Kinda feels like you read my mind :P

It's not GOTY material or anything but as a F2P game... i'm fine with it. Pick up and play for five minutes type of stuff.

It's built that way, but not sure how that works for me on my Vita. I don't have it with me during the day, unlike my iPhone where I can check in during a break or whatnot and play for a couple minutes.

It's also pretty devoid of a thematic interface, you'd have to agree. You've got the spirits, and nothing else that screams of an RPG/Fantasy setting.
 
How do I power up an spirit?

I have 2 spirits that says Power Up! but i don't know how!

That's your daily fortune, the different blessing or curse will power up certain element types.

So those match the blessing on the main menu.

I have a curse that powers up metal, so my metal guy is powered up.
 
Is it just me, or is the date of birth entry bugged? I can't seem to change from default.
It worked fine for me.

And as somebody already said, sure, it's not GOTY material, but I'm really enjoying it. Let's see if you guys get into it too, I'm curious to see some american spririts around ;P
