Walkman was a trend for a little while and PlayStation is a huge brand that has been around decades at this point. Both cool products but PS wins by blowout.

At this point it has to be PlayStation.

30 years of pretty much being at the "top" of the biggest entertainment industry in the world, some might argue.

If you asked this question 20 years ago, answer would certainly be the Walkman.

I'm sure pre-Playstation many would have said Walkman, Trinitron, Betamax.
...no one would have said Betamax. I'll give you the other two though. Betamax was superior to VHS in many aspects, expect a) tape length (there was an "LP" mode like with VHS, but then you brought the quality to VHS level so what's the point) and b) vendor availability, it never was the success that Walkman was so a single vendor just didn't cut it. Betacam was successful enough, but it was for professional settings, never a consumer product.

sure right now its playstation, but when you compare Peak vs Peak.. its not even close, walkman wins in a landslide.

which is why i still gotta give it to the walkman

Everyone called any cassette tape/mp3 player ever a walkman, until the iPod came out (apple can thank the walkman for that) ... where as my parents for example, have never called PlayStation by real name, it was always "go play the Nintendo"

i make s sometimes sony playstation GIF

I would lump Walkman, Trinitron, and Betamax. Sony was known and synonymous with those back in the day, but when PS arrived, there was no contest. Sony=Playstation

Playstation easy. Just the hype for the PS2, which may have been the most hyped Consumer electronic product all time, may be enough to claim the crown.

The fact that every portable cassette player was called a walkman make me want to say Walkman but PlayStation has been dominant for 30 years now

The Walkman was a way bigger cultural influence and must-have back in the days, at its peak. To me it's a no-brainer that it is way more iconic.

It's not cool to own a Playstation but it sure was cool to own a Walkman.

PlayStation brought gaming to the masses back in the 90s. It went from being a children's bedroom thing to a huge part of pop culture.

Music was already popular way before the Walkman.

Which product is still popular today?

I just had this debate in real life, my stupid friend says PlayStation. I say most definitely the walkman.

I think the answer you will get will depend on the person's age. I am 50 and clearly remember the impact of both products when they came out. On a societal level, the walkman was HUGE. It changed the the way the world listened to music. The playstation, ushered in the CD-ROM era of consoles, but they did not invent home consoles. Consoles had been around since pong(my first console), which came out in the late 70's

Everyone knew of or wanted a walkman when I was a kid.
Definitely *still* not the case for the PlayStation.

One still being around over the other is a matter of music taking a different format, more than anything else.

It's not really the walkman that made the difference, it's the headphones. People were lugging around portable stereos but the headphones enabled music to be more portable, personal and less of a nuisance to the public. Playstation's real biggest contribution are the dual analog sticks which have become the standard and likely will be for a long time.

Sony made lots of great products tbh, to this day I trust anything Sony I buy.

Trinitron TVs? Best in class
Bravia Lineup? Renowned Quality
Walkman? Revolutionary
Cameras? Managed to dethron Canon and Nikon who are stuck in the past

Their Sound and theater equipments are excellent.

But to answer your question, definitely Playstation is the most ICONIC brand for Sony and one of the Biggest and most consistent gaming brands ever.

Still got my Minidisc Walkman from 1999, don't use it but I'm far too nostalgic to ever part with it.

Lovely machine back in the day but Sony were really late to the MP3 market

Playstation. Its time to move on my old friend. A decade or two ago? Yeah walkman would be the correct answer... but not today.

Wow an actual good poll.
Playstation

I doubt most young people even remember the word Walkman. While Playstation is still going strong.

In my country,Romania, every console pre PS3 was called a playstation. Even now,old people say playstation to other consoles so it depends on the country.

Considering most of Sonys profit comes from playstation I'd say playstation.

Walkmans were iconic but playstation has been a brand since the 90s.

Walkmans died off around the 90s

Every single modern portable music playing device owes it's existence to the Walkman.
All this "Which one is still around" talk is bollocks.
The Walkman had far more impact.
