What is the best solderless mod for xbox?

Okay my xbox has been borked for way too long. Back when my xbox was working, i took some files off the hd cause i was trying to remove live. Something happened along the way and it screwed up my xbox so now it wont even boot straight from a game. So after all this time and multiple attempts at trying to get the damn thing to work again ive decided to get a solderless mod chip.

so my questions are...

1. Will the solderless mod chip solve my problem
2. What is the best chip for the money

Is this type of topic allowable in the ToS? Talk concerning "hardware modification technology" is ok, but not "Linking to pirate download sites, directions on how to get pirated software to work, reviews or impressions of pirated software". The Xbox mod chips inherently deal with pirated BIOS hacking do they not?

If some files on your hard drive are the only things wrong, then maybe you can just restore the files on it using the hotswap method with your PC..

I wish there was some kind of warning system or reason required before or after a ban. Even if it has to be a simple "Banned Out of Spite" tag, at least then a person knows.

The same thing happened to me a few months ago, I used Xboxhdm to gain access to the HD and copy the missing files. You need to take the HDD out and to have a backup of the dashboard.

I won't

anyway, i dont have the password to my HD. and im not going to do all the stuff necessary to extract it from the eeprom.

so, what is the best solderless mod solution.

It sounds like it wont boot from the DVD drive any more. He really is fucked in this case. I would use the Xecuter(good) mod chip or just replace the motherboard+HDD($70) and use a softmod(better). If your HDD was unlocked when your Xbox went down from the previous mod attempt, you can hook it up to your PC and format it with one of the various Xbox FDISK(best) programs out there.

is xecuter a solderless mod chip?

He can't use a softmod; he can't access the HD.

Actually, he can.

You don't need the HD key to hotswap. Just get that one linux PC boot CD meant for browsing Xbox HDs from xboxscene, works like a charm.

And then just use UDE2. There are packages out there (not the automated ones, ung) that require genuine effort to fry the Xbox with. I really see no reason to use a modchip over a softmod, these days.

I'd go with the UXE mod, that way it'll be easier for him to restore his XBox to its original state if he chooses to down the road, and that softmod takes less than 30 seconds. UDE has some issues and does some weird thing to the files on your C: drive. But it's totally a preference thing. Softmodding has come a long way.....

Just get a solder chip, if you can't solder just take it to your local mum and pop tv repair store and ask for them to solder the points, it is simple if you have all the diagrams and the tv repair guys are most often kick arse at soldering. Chance is he will have no idea what it is for and in the end he doesn't need to, at the most he would charge 30 dollars australian (hell some guys do it for free).
