what jrpg are you playing right now ?

Oh man, I have to continue Blue Dragon. I liked the more open areas of the game, enemies being visible as a valuable tactic, the job system and the world map. I play the game in hard mode and the difference in difficulty is incredibly noticable from normal. In normal, I didn't have to grind at all, but it's absolutely necessary on hard. I stopped playing at the boss right past that village with the living murals because he repeatedly kicked my ass.

I also wonder if there are some more usual villages. I've only entered some towns or outposts with sheep, murals and these little buggers so far, so I like to see some villages or towns that look built by humans.

Otherwise I'm playing Final Fantasy XIII at the moment and I'm at chapter 11. So far I'm enjoying it, but the linearity of the previous chapters was so extreme at times that even I, who doesn't have too much problems with that nowadays, was annoyed by it (same thing that happened in FFX). I loved 6-8 though. I love the open-world approach in Chapter 11, even though I'm a bit irritated that it doesn't feel like I'm getting stronger even after two hours of exploring and grinding.

Playing a fair bit of Etrian Odyssey IV right now. Still early in the game, but quite like it. Haven't played the earlier games, so the series is still new to me. I grew up on stuff like Wizardry and Might and Magic, so really like the first person perspective dungeon crawling. =)

Phantasy Star on the Master System. It's a surprisingly feminine game and it's fantastic.

Who the hell opens up a sweets shop at the bottom of a monster-filled dungeon?

Because of other games, I've put RPGs on the backburner for a bit.
Picking at .hack//G.U. Vol. 1, Star Ocean 3, and SMT IV here and there, though.

Replaying Blue Dragon for the Nth time.

Your post just inspired to me to pick this up from Amazon on the cheap. Hope I like it!

Dropped persona 2 innocent sin for now. Like the word, characters, and mystery but the game is horrendous. Even coming right off of persona 1 psp the game is far more tedious to push through.

Started Muramasa vita instead and am fairly far into the girl chapters. Not bad, bosses are a highlight while exploration and random fights are subpar. Very pretty game tho.

God I love that game. I absolutely agree. Still as refreshing as the day it came out. That series really needs to continue.

Right now I am juggling between Mario & Luigi: Dream Team Bros. and Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry's Wonderland 3D.

Advancing a bit more on Xenosaga ep III, there many more ingame cutscenes than in the others, and in pcsx2 they are beautiful (even if the lightning is messed up).

Last time I saw this thread popup I was finishing up all the extra stuff in .hack//Link and using a guide ta get the normal ending in Atelier Totori. Both successful! Between then & now I played through Fire Emblem: Awakening, Project X Zone, an my yearly playthrough of FFVII in the rpg department!

Currently my focus is all on Atelier Meruru! I'm only early in the game but I'm wow'd by how much flashier it is compared to Totori!

>_<

Curse you region lock & poorness~!

Not exactly a Japanese made game, but I am playing Penny Arcade IV. So far it seems to be the most refined Zeboyd game yet, and I can't wait till Cosmic Star Heroine.

I've been playing Final Fantasy 7 for the first time ( been playing it on and off for some months ).

Honestly I'm not really digging it. I just don't really like the world in this, I also feel like the game is very very slow in some parts that are not very interesting.

Is it possible that I will like FF 9 ? I prefer fantasy settings generally, and FF9 just seems to have a nice charm about it.

Play 9. It is my favorite. Music, setting, world, characters, side quests. I love everything about the game

SaGa Frontier.

Already loving this and to think I played it for all of 15 minutes when it first came out and tossed it aside and I cannot see a single reason why I would have done that(beyond me being an idiot).

Does Macross30 count? I have no clue what is going on story wise because it is all in Japanese, but it has some of the best gameplay and leveling up. I used the guide on the internet to learn how to navigate the menus. So far I am 60 hours in, and enjoying it a lot. Look up the game on the tube if you are unfamiliar with it.

Currently replaying Golden Sun: The Lost Age with my Golden Sun data.
How do you find all these djinn without a guide? lol

EarthBound... different than I remember. Better.

SaGa Frontier.

I feel this game got a lot of undue hate.. I loved just about everything about it.

I'm 22 hours in Ninokuni. Easily the best console JRPG of the generation for me with Tales of Vesperia and Valkyria Chronicles. Excellent game.

Started it today. Can't say if I'll think it's great or not, but I do feel that it is one of the best looking games on the PS3. I love the visuals.

It's indeed one of the best looking game of the generation. People said that the game had a slow start but I personally didn't consider it bad. hopefully you will enjoy it as much as I am.

After several false starts, I'm finally playing DQVI to completion, I'm pretty near the end I think - I have 3 pieces of the legendary armour.

Have to say, this has been my least favourite mainline DQ game so far - the only one I haven't completed yet is 7. It might be because I restarted several times since it's release on DS, and picking it up part way through (but pretty early) again this time - the story and characters just don't really pull me in, and I had to consult a FAQ a lot for what to do next.

It's still DQ, so all the charms are there, but I'll be in no hurry to replay.

Finally giving Ni No Kuno a shot.

Attempted to get back into Xenogears, but guys... it doesn't hold up. The battle engine is way better outside of the gears, and the story couldn't be more overrated.

Man, Xenogears. Definitely had to be there at the time. The low framerate and terrible UI makes it an exercise in punishment these days.

I'm trying to get through the original Breath of Fire. GBA version, though, due to the UI not being horrid. It's been over a decade since I beat it last.

So how do SMT, Persona, and all those other games connect? Or is it like Final Fantasy where they're all under the same umbrella but have nothing to do with one another?

From what I remember its really unclear where to go and what to do. I used to get game overs constantly in that game when i was like 14.

They are all incredibly loosely connected. Most of the games are self contained but contain links to other sub-series (Devil summoner in particular.) The big 4 things most game share are: Urban Fantasy, same system of spells, recruitable monsters and doom doom doom.

That is very true, maybe that is what drew forth my ire all those years ago.

It is just so odd, my tastes haven't changed in such a drastic way before. I played and loved Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy Tactics, and Vagrant Story when they first came out and I still love them quite a bit(heck I still have still a big ol' soft spot for Destrega even after all these years) and the games I never really cared for I still don't really care for(I'm looking at you Saiyuki: Journey West) but I really hated SaGa Frontier and now I find it all kinds of wonderful.

Technically I suppose I could say I'm playing Xenoblade. I bought it when it came out in NA and I played it for about three hours. I keep meaning to go back to it, but...

Tales of Xillia....in two weeks I will be playing it. I have it, but my wife and kids will be leaving for 9 days soon....so ill play it then.

Giving Breath of Fire 3 another go, never beat it but got to second overworld. It's an amazing game for sure.

Thinking of going back to it as well after I finish Arc the Lad II.

Abandoned it some hours in last time, will probably use a faq to get around the area where my last save was since I don't remember too much.
