what jrpg are you playing right now ?

I just got 100% in GTA and I'm just wrapping up the last trophy in GTA single player and then I have a nice 'shiny still in it's shrink wrap' copy of Ni No Kuni to dive in to, been wanting to play it for months, got it at a bargain for €18. Had to get the GTA stuff out of the way first so I could focus 100% on Ni No Kuni. Hoping for great stuff from it.

I just got the 8th Melody on Earthbound on my first ever playthrough. I love this game and its charm. The Player's Guide helps a lot with this thing and I'd love to see more VC games released with them. Bring on Mother 1 and 3!

Wild ARMs 3. Been forever since I played it, but me and the WA series in general have some very good thing going on. I love the setting, and Wild ARMs 3 in particular takes it to a whole new level with how this particular Filgaia is setup. Naruke's music is always a blessing to listen to, but it's hard to find a game in the series where it fits so well. No other WA entry feels so "wild west" as this one, and the Morricone influences in her music for the series shine brighter than ever.

Also, as a pretty big Trails in the Sky fan (and overall fan of cool female main characters), WA3 delivers so much. Virginia's just a lot of fun usually, but also incredibly badass when needed. She and Estelle should definitely get together one of these days and show the world how "naive" girls with a sense for adventure can kick some royal butt! haha.

'slightly' is an understatement.

It is incredibly ill conceived.
I'm only 11 hours in and all I can say is that it's incredibly easy to exploit, like easier than most ff games, but aside from its lack of difficulty what's wrong with it? I don't mean this in a your wrong kinda way I'm just curious as to what ruins it, as I'm aware of its reputation among most ff fans but can't really see what makes it so horrible. does it get worse later on? Also I dislike how I have to constantly switch junctions/ guardian forces and such when the story changes playable characters which only lasts for a couple of battles.

Playing Lufia II Rise of the Sinistrals just to get to that 100 level dungeon where you get to only keep the items from the blue chests or whatever. Does anyone know of any other JRPGs that have a similar dungeon?

This game is also, seriously, like the saddest game ever.

Currently playing "Shin Megami Tensei IV" and I'm really enjoying both the demon fusions and what they seem to be doing with the story. I'm about 15 hours in and have no idea how this can end, which is exciting!

I recently finished the North American version of Ni no Kuni (PS3). I played the Japanese version a few years ago and did not enjoy it much, quitting halfway through. However, I gave it another shot earlier this month when it was on sale for $20 and it "clicked" with me, thanks in part to the new Easy mode which makes the battles less stupid and cuts down on the need for mindless grinding. Overall the game was lovely, and I really enjoyed the story. I finished the game with all side quests complete at about 43 hours. I still have all the post-game stuff to do, but I'll save that for another time in the future.

I'm now playing Toki Towa (Japanese version of "Time and Eternity") on my PS3, and I'm really enjoying it. I've played about 7 hours thus far. This game gets a lot of hate on GAF and most other places, but I'm not seeing what's so bad about it. For someone like myself who owned a PC-FX and Saturn back in the day, this is a dream come true. I always wished PC-FX games would look and play like this. Of course the story is ridiculous and inane, but most JRPG stories are. At least it doesn't take itself too seriously.

Anyone else going to be playing Grand knight history this month? Been in my backlog all this time and they announced the online portion is going to stop working at the end of the month. Gotta check it out while it's still fully functioning.

Kingdom Hearts 1.5 and Mario & Luigi: Dream Team. I imagine Zelda: The Wind Waker HD probably doesn't count as as it's an Japanese action RPG and not a straight JRPG.

Japanese action RPG is still JRPG. That's why Tales, KH and Star Ocean series are also JRPG.

And Zelda is not a RPG. That's like saying God of War and Devil May Cry are RPG. They are action adventure games.

For some reason I decided to finally give the Zodiac Job version of FFXII a try. I put about 10 hours into it this weekend. I severely underestimated the nostalgia trip I would have, forgot how much I liked this game.

Playing FFXIII. This has to be my fourth, possibly fifth attempt to get through this game. All my previous tries saw me give up around chapter 3 or 4 because I just could not take Snow's idiocy, Hope's whining, etc. Buuut this time I pushed through and am now in chapter 11 with 30 hours of playtime under my belt. The training wheels have finally come off and I can make my own party and choose my own roles (to an extent—the CP costs are still pretty prohibitive).

I *like* the battle system, but it has a tendency to annoy me because I get tripped up when trying to rapidly assign abilities/switch paradigms, and since everything moves so fast I feel like it's very easy to die. I'm getting better, though, and as I experiment with different paradigm decks I'm learning how different configurations can really help my survivability while still getting 4/5 star ratings in battles. (I don't know how important ratings actually are, but it feels bad to get a shitty one, so there you go.)

The characters, well. They're still not great, but they're getting better, I guess? Most of the cast seems to have moved past their initial histrionics and settled into your typical JRPG ~*~we can do it if we work together~*~ trope, which is still annoying, but at least it's easier to tune out. The plot is pretty much straight eyeroll material. I decided a while ago that I'm playing this for the visuals and the music, both of which are excellent as expected.

Overall? I'm enjoying it more than I figured I would. That sounds like faint praise, and it kind of is, but it's not the trainwreck I assumed it would be based on the earlier chapters.

I was playing The Last Story quite a bit until I realized just how evil the main characters were; committing orcish genocide without even batting an eye lash or questioning the reasons.

I don't know if Rune Factory Frontier counts, but I'm finishing that one up now (hopefully) and then moving on to Xenoblade. I'm also playing through EarthBound again.

I'm also currently enjoying Shin Megami Tensei IV. Loving the battling, dungeon, and the general feel of the game. I'm about 12 hours in, and the game just jumped up in difficulty quite a bit. I've got to go do some grinding and find and fuse some demons for a bit before I take on this next boss.

It's a great handheld game.

Just picked up a copy of Linda^3 Again for PS1, a game I've been searching for for a long while (it was sitting on the shelf at Videogamesnewyork just waiting for me to pick it up)... has anyone here played it before? The futuristic, adult Noah's Ark -ish story really has me interested.

Does Dragon Fantasy count?

I'm in JRPG heaven right now since I'm LTTP on both Xenoblade and Persona 4. Been switching between these and I have about 40-45 hours logged in each.

(I have Earthbound sitting on my Wii U front page... waiting patiently)

I'm about 4 hours into DQIX, Nier and FE:A, trying to figure out which one to power through first.
Leaning towards Dragon Quest.

NIER!!!!!!! Best OST, Great Story, Solid Gameplay but it has mediocre graphics.

You'll be surprised when you see that game has multiple genres incorporated to it just by changing lighting and camera angles. I can honestly say it has almost all major genres.

Xillia. Just need a few more trophies, but probably going to skip the last Rare Monster one. Seriously, I should have started using Foods earlier.

I've been hungry for JRPG games after years of indifference (they were my life in PS1, Saturn days)

Currently playing
FF XIV: ARR on PC
FFVI GBC on my DS

Going to finish Nier on 360 and FF XIII + part 2 on PS3
Interested in buying Tales of Vesperia and Lost Odyssey on my 360.

Mother 3. I'm 19 hours in and loving it but I think that maybe Earthbound is a little bit better. Anyway, I can't wait to finish it, I really want to see the ending.

There is not a single reason not to have Lost Odyssey when you have 360... It is actually a console that can run Lost Odyssey! There is no other reason behind it, well may be Blue Dragon too (><)

Fulfilling my crisis core dream I've had since it came out. Got a psp finally, playing through ff7 again a second time, last was when I was a kid. Sooo good still, probably some nostalgia glasses too, but then onto crisis core, so pumped.

Can you guys recommend me some PC RPGs? Hopefully something a low end GPU can play.

I've heard great stuff about Planescape : Torment and System Shock, is it really good?

Planescape Torment is really good mainly for the story but the gameplay isn't bad either.
System Shock 1 hasn't aged well but if you can get past all that it's still quite fun, But i'm assuming you're talking about System Shock 2 which I have't played. Though the last thread about it was still pretty positive impressions.

The easiest games to recommend are Baldurs Gate 1 and 2 for PC.
But for something that's similar to JRPG's there sure aren't many off the top of my head.
Aside from the obvious FF7, the only other game I can think of is Anachrox which I haven't played but hae heard lots of positive things about.

EDIT: You already played Anachrox so i'll see what else I could recommend.

Play Arcanum, it runs on almost any PC, is available on gog (so drm free), and you'll thank me later. It's great fun. PT is OK too, not that fun as Arcanum, System shock 2 (I assume you mean 2) is not exactly that much of an RPG but it'll run on almost everything, I think.
I'll second Fallout (original one) suggestion too.
