Alright, you got me... you can chalk it up to laziness on my part. :lolfart said:get ear molds (and the ear mold adapter, natch), and pick up a pocket-style amp
Open-air designs that fully surround your ears tend to sound the most natural and accurate, as the Sennheiser and Grado designs illustrate. They also don't fire the audio signals directly into your completely sealed ear canal, so I'd like to think that I was helping to preserve my long-term hearing... that all goes out the window with the Etymotics.border said:Why does everyone own such gigantic headphones? By a new pair you cheap bastards.

To the guy who modded his ipod headphones - how do you do that? I'm willing to accept the ipod phones have better sound quality than my 71s, but I'd like to keep the comfort/noise cancelling nature.
Lemurnator said:No stock headphones have better sound quality than anything. The 71's deliver an artificial bass that literally is rather damaging to your ears.
mrklaw said:yeah, but that combines quite well with the ipod then.
But if thats the case, is there an option that gives me noticably better sound quality, with the same/similar plug style fit, that don't cost crazy money? (<£80 / $120)

Yup. That comment was out of line.Triumph said:Lemurs may be young, but she does know about some stuff and higher end headphones happens to be one of them.
the connectors for the 580/600/650 are all the same, so those are interchangeable. the sennheiser cable is 30$. jan meier used to sell a very nice, OEM quality german cable custom-made by oehlback for 60$ (i have one of these. it's quite nice). the boutique cables are between 150-300$.Hooker said:Aren't the wires exchangable with all Sennheisers, especially the ones in the upper segment - You can just buy a new wire for what, $10/$15?

They're very good, but they're uncomfortable and you can hear almost as much sound from the back as the front..

What's yer price range, Dragona? Kind of important.Dragona Akehi said:None of your audiophile headphone experts going to answer my question?
Go to the Sennheiser website for replacement cables. Unfortunately the small cables that they use tend to fail if too much pressure is put on them or if there is long-term repetitive use on specific areas. There is at least a one year warranty on the cables.Fight for Freeform said:Senn HD 500.
I don't like them because the sound isn't flat, and my bro already broke em by doing something to the wire, the damage isn't visible at all, and I don't want to open them to fix them because they are under warrenty.
Looking at getting some suitable for monitoring, but I'm undecided on what amp to get with the headphones.
How is the Cardas Headphone cable replacement in comparison?fart said:the connectors for the 580/600/650 are all the same, so those are interchangeable. the sennheiser cable is 30$. jan meier used to sell a very nice, OEM quality german cable custom-made by oehlback for 60$ (i have one of these. it's quite nice). the boutique cables are between 150-300$.
