Other than axsider (and we don't really know about him either), we don't have ANYONE claiming to know anything "insider" about the PS3 do we?
There's always DCharlie, but he keeps editing his posts ;)

what's his deal again? (that is, what are his credentials, if we know) He's seems to have a serious love / hate / hate relationship with Sony ;)

He knows people, 'course their track record is abysmal. There was actually a recent thread where he and JackFrost were both hinting at something they'd heard about the PS3.

that latest translations sounds like it could be released this 'trade year' -i.e. financial year, simultaneously in Europe and the US. If they are quick, maybe even this year.

right. So how come so many people seem convinced its coming in fall 2006, citing it almost as fact, when nobody here has evidence one way or another? Just because they aren't leaking as bad as MS doesn't mean there's nothing to leak..

Just observing is all. Not sure when I expect it out myself.

The full story on jiji.com states, according to Nakao Yubara (manager of performance?), that since they developed PSP and PS3 technology together, there is a chance PS3 will launch within this calendar year. It's not a promise, just a possibility.

kaching and sonycowboy, I know you have your doubts about DCharlie and JackFrost, but please allow me to put them to bed (your doubts, not the people :D). They and I both know some people who have very good knowledge of what is going on. Please show a little faith. We're not absent-minded Sony haters at all.

I started this as a joke but a december release (JP) full of problems (consoles that scratch disks, drivers problems, over-heating, etc) wouldn't be so strange.

I have no doubts about either of them. I'm just trying to get more info ;)

Whoever said anything about absent-minded? ;)

Interesting..I'd expect it no earlier than April 06 to be honest. Simultaneous US/Euro launch is good though..

Something tells me they may announce launch timeframes at E3? That'd be semi-surprising..

They may announce a release 'timeframe'. That could be 'this year', which puts people off xbox 360, and then turns out to be 'this financial year', which saves them Christmas. That then turns into 'this financial year - in Japan', by which point people give up and wait until Fall '06

Here in LA, I'm starting to see ads...different colored backgrounds, from top to botton is the Triangle, Circle, X and Square, but not as a whole. Only pieces of the shapes can be seen and on the bottom it reads

did sega actually do that??? whats the story...

Sega announced that the Saturn would be available early at select retailers, pissing off the stores that didn't get chosen, and wound up hurting Sega as said burned retailers didn't bother to stock the Saturn and its software when the "real" release date came around.

Developers weren't too thrilled, either.

Oh yes! It was E3 the year Saturn was supposed to come out. It was scheduled in September or something, around the time PS1 launched. Tom Kalinske, then president of Sega America, got up and shocked the industry by announcing "Saturn is launching RIGHT NOW! It's in a select group of retailers for $399." Nobody saw it coming. I was working at a Software Etc. at the time and I came into work that day and there they were. I was a big VF fan and Panzer Dragoon really impressed me, so I bought the system that day. (I was still living at home and had money to burn. $400 for a system. I still have the receipt). There were 5-6 games available.

The ploy was to get the jump on Sony but it backfired. Almost no games were released between May and September anyway, and the "select retailers" (mostly game stores) bit made the retailers that lost out on the early Saturn launch very angry. Some of them vowed to never carry the system once it was available to all.

So yes, it has been done.

I"ll work on that for tomorrow. I'm never in the far lane. Its cheap advertising. Put up on the walls construction sites put up to hide their mess.

Unless anyone in LA wants to travel on Washington blvd. a couple blocks past Crenshaw.

yea, okay then. I'll work on it.

"Priming for depression" sounds like a good phrase :lol
Is Sony feeling threatened by Microsoft? Perhaps.

Hope to see a healthy competition between PS3 and Xbox360.

I hope so, If Sony launches PS3 this year I will be very happy (I just hope the hardware/software isn't rushed, if that's the case, save it for 2006).

And its confirmed for this year as well.

Kind of funny how not having final dev kits for 360 is okay and none for PS3 is bad.

the difference is that there are a ton of 360 kits out there, but only a few of the biggest publishers have a one or two refrigerator sized cell workstations with 6800s.

Fiscal year 2005 ends March 31, 2006. PEACE.

Probably Winnah! Sony discusses almost everything in relationship to their fiscal years...

MS: fucks up PDO pic release + stumbles with XBox360 world first glimpse

SONY: lets rumour up our release, that'd put a dent in their momentum

@ E3

SONY: shows a couple of UNLEAKED games and blows the world away
and
now NIntendo will show Revolution.....

Gamers hold off buying 360

MS am cry. They blew 300 million on RAre and half a million on MTV.

THIS COMING GEN IS SO FUN.

So yes, it has been done.

The only store I remember never stocking the Saturn was KB Toys.
