What RPGs do you look forward to in 2005?

Jade Empire

I get to play the Japanese RPGs as they come out over here...

ZELDA

and

FINAL
FANTASY

The only other titles that interest me are Might and Magic 10, Baldur's Gate 3, proper Fallout 3 and Ultima X.
Too bad none of them will ever see the light of the day.

Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2
StellaDeus
Kingdom Hearts 2
Dragon Quest 8
Radiata Stories
Final Fantasy XII
Atelier Iris
Dirge of Cerberus: FF7
NAMCO X Capcom
Samurai Legend Musashi

Nothing else interests me, even Might and Magic 10, BG3 or Ultima X.

Zelda is not an RPG and there is NO BG3, Jade Empire is made by the same developer so you may like that.

FFXII does look hot... I just hope they have a better level up system than 10

Digital Devil Saga 1+2
FFXII
KH2
Iris no Atelier
DQVIII
All the Tales games
FFIII DS
Radiata Stories
Romancing Saga: Minstrel Song
The new GC Pokemon - I really hope it's a REAL RPG and not a fucking Stadium/Colosseum

When is the first DDS out btw?

I must agree I am still waiting a “good” change in the standard Japanese RPG’s battle and level up system final fantasy hasn’t really gone anywhere good since around 4 (I still love them).

Good thing is my new room mate (haven’t moved just yet) has a PS2 so I looks like I wont be missing out on MGS3 and FFXII with my PS2 boycott.

I just want more control over my character. If I have no control of the story that's fine (as long as it is a good one) But I want be able to play the game a few different ways, with "different" characters

"Zelda is not an RPG"

What? Since when? For me it's a RPG game, action oriented but still. The same way Deus Ex was a RPG - FPS oriented but still.

Yeah I tend to think of Zelda as an RPG...but Nintendo has never listed it as one.. I think Edios listed Deus Ex as an RPG; I may be wrong about that.

As soon as we knew that it was Yasumi Matsuno that was the producer, this game skyrocketed. When details of FFXII emerged that there would be no random battles, that battles would be fought on the adventure map and that its pretty much a single player FFXI, downright to the graphic engine, the camera, the battle system (except its more like kotor here where it pause after every actions, unlike FFXI), and the art, i was sold.

Come here baby :D

How can you call Zelda an RPG? Name some RPG elements in Zelda.
Zelda has no leveling up, is not about being involved in a "role-playing" story, or anything like that. Zelda is an adventure game where you "advance to the next stage" by figuring out cleverly crafted puzzles. It's genre is labeled as action/adventure (although NCL messed up once and accidentally called Majoras Mask an ARPG).

A lot of people say Zelda is an RPG because it has a fantasy setting. Well then what about sci-fi or modern themes? Why isn't Metroid considered an RPG? Metroid has the same fundamental gameplay as Zelda after all.

Even then, ARPGs themselves aren't really RPGs, they are a genre by themselves. I think it's a little sad that the only reason people group genres like ARPG, SRPG, adventure, and even farming sim (Harvest Moon) together with RPGs, is because they emphasis a story.

Console:
FFXII
Kingdom Hearts II
Digital Devil Saga

PC:
Neverwinter Nights II
Dungeons & Dragons Online
EverQuest II Expansion

Jade Empire
Dragon Age (if it makes it out this year)
Gothic 3 (if it makes it out this year)
Oblivion (if it makes it out this year)

No Chance.

Um, they say that there is interest for it. But it is currently exclusive to Xbox. I hope it comes to PC aswell since I wont buy an Xbox for just one game.

Its sad to see that there only a few people interested in Gothic 3. Its is the real underdog of the RPG world.

Jade Empire.

I had a friend send DQVIII to me the week it came out. Personally, it wasn't nearly worth the $90 it cost.

Jade Empire is being published by Microsoft, (and i think partly funded) no chance of a PC version maybe only if it bombs.

Just Got 3 Games for PS2 i want to purchase this year.

-Final Fantasy
-Kingdom Hearts 2
-Gran Turismo 4 (I know not a RPG, but worht mentioning)

I dont have any more time to play these games besides my obligation to my clan for DC en BF2

Sure they have. NCL called Majora's Mask an ARPG (where as they referred to all previous Zeldas as adventure games, as well as all Zeldas since). NOA's referred to the Zelda series as "Action RPGs" since the SNES days.

Generally, it doesn't really matter what you call Zelda, so long as you include it with similarly designed games. It's ultra annoying to see Fable or Kingdom Hearts on RPG lists while Zelda's excluded.

Dragon Quest 8 US release
Phantasy Star Collection
Tales of Legendia
FF12
FF3j DS
Radiata Stories
Ys 6 (2 days baby!)
DDS
Atelier Iris:Eternal Mana
Tengai Makyo III:Namida (hopefully!)

Well since I cant create a new thread, i'll just put this here. Infos are from this french site which is usually reliable http://pokelord.com/. Hopefully, someone can make this into a thread.

Eizo Nakano, a man very involved in the Pokemon Compagny, declared this morning in the Nihon Keizai Shimbun what he wanted to do with Pokemon Diamond/Pearl.

By reading this news, you'll understand that D/P are now expected in Japan for November 2005. It is now official: The next wave of the Pokemon craze will arrive this year on the Nintendo DS in Japan

Let's come back to Eizo Nakano:

The succes of Pokemon works with a 3 years cycle. We are currently in the last months of the 3rd cycle. I must announce you that we have got a 30% decline of the Pokemon popularity in December 2004 compared to December 2003. At each start of cycle, the popularity gets a huge rise

This explication from Mr. Nakano isnt new et we already know that with each new generation of new pokemon, million of new fans are also created

"It is necessary for us to renew the generation of Pokemon if we want to renew our constantly growing fanbase

The Pokemon Compagny expects to multiply by five it's benefit this year in December 2005 compared to December 2002

PokemonRuby and Sapphire and all the derivated products (cards, TV show) were all launched in 2002, 3 years after Gold and Silver. This year, a new cycle will begin and the launch of this new cycle will be much bigger than R/S and G/S"

Indeed, the Pokemon Compagny is preparing itself with the PokePark, a Pokemon Festa this summer, the launch of a new Pokemon serie at the end of the year and with several new extension for the card game

Stella Deus, I hope it plays nothing like Nippon Ichi SRPG's.
DQ7, because i've never played a DQ.
Namco x Capcom

Hey, in Fire Emblem GC, do you lose your characters permanently like in the earlier titles? I think that raised the difficulty to an "unfun" level"...

MOTHER 3

I swear, if NoA doesnt release this game stateside (they already denied us mother 1+2 so far) someone is going to have their f'ing head of a plate. Nintendo knows we want the damn game, even Miyamoto knows we want the game and that there is a big demand, they just dont want to give it to us.

For Pete and Pete's sake, it's a game about the US and its music, culture, phenomena, supersticions, society, and relationships and they aren't even releasing it over here!

Speaking of RPGs and Nintendo consoles, how well did Dawn of Souls sell? Did it sell enough (I hope) so that Square Enix will want to bring FF3 here? Final Fantasy 3 is one of my favorite FF's and I'm definately looking forward to it coming here finally.
