What should Retro Studios work on?

After 3 amazing Metroid games and two spectacular Donkey Kong Countrys it's hard to argue that Retro aren't one of the best studios out there. But there's one issue, the community always wants more. I'm sure if people had their way Retro Studios would make nothing but Metroid forever and that's not going to be good for either the studio or the consumer. While Tropical Freeze is one of my favourite games of all time I don't want them to make a third. This may sound crazy but I don't want Metroid Prime 4 - not by Retro anyway.

I want Retro Studios to either do one of two things: Make an entirely new IP or revive a beloved franchise in a genre they have no experience in similar to what they did with Donkey Kong. The game I have in mind is Earthbound. I want to see Retro Studios reimagine the Mother franchise in their own wonderful way. We haven't seen Retro do a whole lot in the way of writing so it would be interesting to see how they can take on a game with a heavy narrative but more than anything I want a new Earthbound game and these guys are one of the few studios I would really trust with the project. Having Itoi on board couldn't hurt either.

I know most people want Metroid Prime 4 but keep in mind in about 15 years Retro Studio's projects have consisted of 3 Metroids and 2 Donkey Kongs. I think it's time they work on something new.

make nothing but metroid forever

Or at least, one more, given the gap since the last Prime, and then work on whatever. Them's just my feels.

I'd like them to work on some sort of 3d adventure/action game. Doesn't have to be prime (though that's preferable), but I really hope it's not a 2d platformer. Unless it's 2d metroid. I'd actually like to see them have a crack at that, hopefully ending up as far towards the super metroid end of the series spectrum as possible.

I'd like to see them try and make a 2D Metroid.

I think they're the most qualified to do so, and have experience with both 2D games (Donkey Kong) and Metroid (obviously).

I know it would be very good, likely the best 2D Metroid since Super. And the series really needs a strong game to come back with, much like Prime was a comeback after the hiatus after Super.

I'll take a Metroid Kong.

Honestly, I'm pretty happy with their output and while i'd like to see them work on something new, I can't say that I trust those to franchises with anyone else.

WRT Donkey Kong, not that Retro didn't do great with TF, but I could stand to see the next title developed by someone else. Maybe give it to Next Level Games, or even a close third-party like Namco or Capcom. I definitely think that the next two games they should make are Metroid Prime 4 (because so many people are bothered by the direction of the series) and then a new IP.

On whatever the development team decides on they want to work on the most. That inherent motivation and alloted time seem like good combination for getting a good game.

I'd love for them to do Metroid, but if they want to do something new and original I'd be down.

Also they expressed they had some ideas for a Donkey Kong 3D Platformer. I wouldn't want them to make that but I know I'll end up buying it. Tropical Freeze was too good.

Honestly I don't care what it is. Two of my top 5 games of all time are Retro games, so I'm sure whatever they do next will be great. As long as it's not an RPG, because I hate RPGs.

It is unoriginal and all but metroid. Metroid prime stands as one of the best games of all the time and we didn't had a game like it for 9 years now, I think it is about time we get a new one.

Do they still have the talent for Metroid? I thought most of that team moved on, disbanded, or, er, died.

Maybe they could assemble a new team. From what I understand, they at least have good people there.

Ew, I would hate them giving it to Next Level Games. They're Nintendo's ultimate B-grade developer, the drop in quality would be staggering.

I've always had a couple of dream game scenarios.

A third-person action RPG from Bungie with a singleplayer focus

A modern Earthbound console RPG from Monolith Soft

A proper Metroid 5 in 2-D with sprites from Nintendo

And a full-scale 3-D console Zelda from Retro, which is the number one dream game. Their art and gameplay in a Zelda world would blow my mind.

Fucking Donkey Kong of course. Metroid got three entries, only fair for Donkey Kong to get three too, right?

I'd like them to do something unexpected, like a new IP or something.

I'd personally want them to work on a new Metroid Prime game but I think they have earned the right to do whatever they want.

All of their games have been superb so I trust them on whatever new project they're working on. Either a Metroid/DK game or and brand new/different IP

That depends how much meddling Sakamoto insists on. If they would be allowed to make a 2d metroid where the atmosphere does the storytelling rather than hamfisted cutscenes, that'd be great.

Weren't they the Turrok guys? I imagine a lot of the quality came from Nintendo's input (Miyamoto upending the tea table)

I don't think Nintendo sees Retro as the high-tiered gaming gods as fans do.
