Hunky Nostradamus
Home Fires - ITV

Home Fires is a new six-part drama following a group of inspirational women in a rural Cheshire community with the shadow of World War II casting a dark cloud over their lives.

The isolated village couldn’t feel further away from the impending bloodshed and battlefields and yet it is not immune from the effects of war. As the conflict takes hold, and separates the women from their husbands, fathers, sons and brothers, the characters find themselves under increasing and extraordinary pressures in a rapidly fragmenting world.

By banding together as the Great Paxford Women’s Institute, they help maintain the nation’s fabric in its darkest hour, and discover inner resources that will change their lives forever.

The C Word - BBC One

Sheridan Smith plays Lisa in this modern love story that begins when she is first diagnosed with breast cancer. Twenty eight years old and newly married to Pete, a man she is crazy about. She’s right at the start of things, her life going in the right direction and in the order she planned it. Then out of the blue, the life-altering event that changes everything. One minute her life was normal, the next, in an instant, that normality was gone.

From the start, Lisa is determined not to let cancer change her, she’s going to get through this and get her life back, exactly as it was. Through it all, Lisa is someone you want to be with. She’s the heart and definitely the lungs of a tight-knit family. She’s one half of an amazing marriage. She’s a best friend and big sister. She’s an English everywoman of sorts. She’s also a writer, because without ever imagining it or meaning for it to happen, her blog about her experiences has a profound effect on people. Somehow, one woman just being honest, being funny, being everything she was before, but talking about living with cancer, is a watershed. People from across the world, strangers going through the same things as she is, read and comment and tweet and realise they’re not alone.

Adapted by Nicole Taylor, this film is a defiant, ballsy account which captures the no-nonsense and witty style of Lisa’s writing and personality.

Grace and Frankie - Netflix

Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin co-star as two women forced to reinvent their lives in this funny, honest new Netflix Original series. Elegant, proper Grace and freewheeling, eccentric Frankie aren't friends, even though their husbands Robert and Sol (Martin Sheen and Sam Waterston) have been law partners for decades. But when Robert and Sol announce that they're leaving their wives for each other, the two women start to bond in ways they never expected.

Thought Crimes: The Case of the Cannibal Cop - HBO

Dubbed “The Cannibal Cop,” former NYPD officer Gilberto Valle was convicted of conspiring to kidnap and eat women in March 2013. Valle had argued it was all a fantasy, but the prosecution’s narrative convinced jurors otherwise. His story made headlines not only for its chilling details, but also because of its landmark decision regarding a man many consider “patient zero” in a growing thought-police trend across the nation.

Featuring unprecedented, intimate interviews with Valle and his family, as well as insights from lawyers, journalists, psychological professionals and criminal experts, 'Thought Crimes: The Case of the Cannibal Cop' explores this complicated case, asking if someone can be found guilty for his or her most dangerous thoughts.

Texas Rising - History

In 1836, west of the Mississippi was considered the Wild West and the Texas frontier was viewed as hell on earth. The heroic General Sam Houston (Paxton), the rag tag Rangers and the legendary “Yellow Rose of Texas” lead this story of the human will to win against insurmountable odds. At the end, the Texas flags stood tall and victorious, claiming a piece of history for all eternity.

They have 72 hours to learn details about each other’s challenging circumstances and make the weighty decision. What they don’t know is that the family with whom they are considering sharing this financial windfall received an identical briefcase with the same instructions. Each episode culminates with the reveal in the final act and a half.

It’s 1967 and the era of free love, drug experimentation and the Vietnam War is in full effect. When the teenage daughter of a respected lawyer goes missing, L.A. Police Sgt. Needing the help of someone they will trust, he partners with rebellious undercover cop Brian Shafe, a man who’s more comfortable rolling a joint than patrolling a beat. It’s not long before they stumble upon a small-time cult leader seeking out vulnerable women to join his cause. From there, they follow this man’s trail down a rabbit hole of drugs, sex, murder and cultural revolution. Little could they know, however, the guy they’re hunting will eventually become the killer we now recognize as Charles Manson. A New Yorker through and through, Jill Weber embraces her quirky and somewhat unconventional life with her loving husband, Andy (Andy Buckley, The Office) and three great kids. Jill's frenemies and in-laws only fuel the pressure for her to conform, including the status-obsessed family matriarch, Candace (Joanna Cassidy, Six Feet Under), brother-in-law Lex (Sean Kleier, Madam Secretary) and his wife, Brooke (Abby Elliott, Saturday Night Live), who reigns over a group of quintessential Upper East Side mombots with an iron credit card.

Get it wrong – and, after a tense countdown, the slime-bombs detonate, showering the players – and portions of the audience – with mystery goop that could be anything from guacamole to mashed potatoes, forcing the players out of the game.

As the game progresses and teams successfully defuse the slime-bombs, the prize money builds and the questions get harder. After six tense rounds of questions, players can choose to walk away with their winnings or to take on the more challenging “Mega Money Bomb Round” during which they stand to win up to $500,000. One mistake, and not only do they lose half of their money, but the team is in for the biggest slime blast yet. Answer correctly, and the Mega Money Bomb could be filled with cold hard cash!

Thanks for putting the thread together again, Ratsky.

I'll have to peruse the options when I have some time, but I'm not initially seeing a lot that I'm going to watch this Summer.

Nice work on the thread Ratsky.

I will definitely be watching:
Orange is the new Black - Well season 3 of House of Cards was a massive misstep (again) so it will be nice to see Netlix's best show making its return
Hannibal - It is just so good (and gory).
Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell - Looks really promising, maybe I should read the book first though
London Spy - It is spy fiction, so of course I'll watch it.
The Last Panthers - Jack Thorne is a criminally unappreciated writer, so this should be great.
What Happened, Miss Simone? - Nina Simone <3.

Will catch up later:

This Is England '90 - I'm not caught up with the series, but so far it is massively impressive
Please Like Me - It is funny, it is warm, but is isn't must-see-at-once viewing
Aquarius - It is set in the 60's so of course I'll watch it. I mean I even watched The Playboy Club.
Narcos - Provided it ends up good, the premise is promising
Blunt Talk - As above, will watch if it ends up being good.

Will probably hate watch:
Sens8 - The plot sounds so cheesy, the Wachowski's haven't done anything I like in a decade, and the title is so fucking dumb.

It will also be interesting to see what Channel 4/AMC does with Humans, I quite liked Äkta Människor on which it is based.

I can't wait for the new Agatha Christie show Partners in Crime. Hopefully it's coming this year to PBS or something.

Dan

No longer boycotting the Wolfenstein franchise
The show I help produce isn't listed. This is bullshit, an outrage even!
Just kidding, it's certainly not a GAF show.

Returning:
Hannibal
The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret
Key & Peele
Married
Masters of Sex
Penny Dreadful
Rectify (haven't started yet, but pretty sure I'll catch up)
The Strain (for now...)
True Detective
You're the Worst

New things to watch/sample:
Bessie
The Brink
Deutschland 83
Humans
Narcos
Nightingale
Sense8
Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp

I don't expect The Leftovers to return until the fall. They just started shooting. They'd need an even more rushed production schedule than they did for the first season (with one episode already shot) in order to debut any sooner.

More on this summer than I thought. I will be watching:

Rick and Morty: Another one of my favorite comedies. So creative.
Hannibal: Only just caught up with this year, so will be able to watch week to week now. Didn't love it as much as most, but I'm looking forward to seeing where it goes next.

More Good Shows That I'll Be Watching
Penny Dreadful
True Detective
Continuum
Legends
Survivor's Remorse
Married

Shows I Shouldn't Keep Watching, But Probably Will
The Leftovers
The Strain

Will Probably At Least Try These New Shows
Aquarius
Ballers
Scream
Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp
Fear the Walking Dead
Narcos
Sens8

Not super excited for any of the new ones. I might try and catch up on Strike Back in time for the last season too. I really liked Banshee and saw this show mentioned a lot when reading impressions of it.

And this is why you are the best Ratsky:

A Wicked Offer - The CW

JGESpxj.jpg

The Scream one was good too. Nice work on the thread. I love seeing what is in store each season.

You are a god, Ratsky. Thank you as always.

Returning shows off the top of my head:

Penny Dreadful
Orange Is the New Black
Hannibal
True Detective
The Strain
Masters of Sex

thanks for the list... without it I wouldn't have known battlebots was coming back, which alone makes up for the lack of stuff I want to watch.

as it's just battlebots for me with maybe catching back up on hannibal and maybe giving penny dreadful a check out.

Last Ship, Defiance and Falling Skies for me! Cannot wait for these to return.

Anyone know when that big new SyFy show is airing? I think its called the Expanse?

Ratsky, great job on the OP, as always. And a big thank you as well, because without these threads I'd have no clue what the hell is coming out.

Summer has been picking up the last couple of years. We'll keep watching Masters of Sex (though I thought S2 was weak as hell but my wife liked it) and Penny Dreadful (though she thought S1 was weak as hell but I liked it). The compromises of marriage. :)

Also definitely going to watch True Detective. The story fizzled a bit in S1 but the performances were so top rate. Hoping S2 can deliver.

Whose Line remains amazingly funny (KELP!) and will always have a spot in the rotation.

We'll likely run The Strain and Extant as background noise though I suspect we'll just bail on those a couple episodes in.

Let's see, we recorded all of Legends last season but only watched two episodes so far. I suspect that one will eventually just fall off the "to watch" list.

Humans looks interesting and could be worth a look-see.

Would love some opinions on The Last Ship. We didn't catch this last year but I just saw an extended look (before Age of Ultron) at the theater yesterday and it looks pretty intense. Anyone have an opinion of whether S1 held up?

As for new stuff, definitely going to check out Texas Rising and Fear the Walking Dead.

^ that's a big ass picture

Now that Disney owns Star Wars I see they're putting their characters in there. That's clearly Aladdin in the foreground.

Wow, that's a lot for summer.

I'm nearly certain I'll be watching these:

True Detective on HBO
Orange is the New Black on Netflix

And possibly some other new Netflix series if they look good.

Maybe, I might check out Scream on MTV and maybe Teen Wolf on MTV too.

I haven't seen it so I can't comment, but you might be able to find some opinions in the official thread

I watch so much TV that I don't even have a TV backlog, except for a couple of Netfix shows I might check out over the summer.

Lucky!

All that matters is on June 20th:

Not a fan of older Ahsoka's design :/. Also not a fan of bringing in Vader so early.

And I know there have to be concessions for Y7 rating, but I wish the violence was a tad more realistic.

Enough bitching. Ballers looks funny, can't wait for YTW S2, and Aquarius has Claire from The Originals right? Will watch a couple episodes for her.

I really need to catch up on Penny Dreadful.

So they did a live double episode of Undateable last night,

Outside of the show being terrible, they took advantage of the event in a delightful manner.

Best part was the
J.D. and Turk
reunion.

Great OP.

And The Whispers is about aliens, because ABC is being so weirdly cagey about it. The aliens are controlling are kids.

Great OT, fantastic work Rasky.

Really looking forward to Humans. The Swedish show (Real Humans) is pretty great, just hoping they manage to capture the same atmosphere and tone.

I'm hoping some of these news shows turn out to be really good. I might catch an episode or two to see if I get sucked in straight away, but I'll probably hold off until the first impression stuff comes in. There's certainly some great stuff coming this summer so I am very excited.
