What system do you think will have the best 2k5?

:lol DDS has gotten great reviews from all sources (including Bebpo) and DDS2 will likely fall under that too. Same for StellaDeus. And Phantom Kingdom is the next game from Nippon Ichi so we already know that's going to be good. I mean c'mon dude. All you did was pick the ones from big name franchises (or developers) and assume everything else wasn't good.

Sales-wise? PS2

Xbox is going out of production, PSP and Xenon will both be supply-limited, and the gamecube is still the gamecube.

Hype-wise? It's a toss up between PSP and Xenon.

If PSP becomes the "new iPod", it'll overshadow the Xenon launch. If EA gets a real, next-gen Madden ready for Xenon launch, it'll be a juggernaut.

There's no accounting for the taste, but I thought games like DDS and Ys were critically acclaimed.

For me that would be GC, DS and PS2. They all have a nice list of games that are comming this year (Europe). Im not thrilled with the games that are going to be released for the Xbox.

Digital Devil Saga
Digital Devil Saga 2
StellaDeus
Final Fantasy 12
Samurai Legend Musashi
Kingdom Hearts 2
Atelier Iris
Phantasy Star Trilogy
Shining Tears
Wild ARMS Another Code F
Y's 6
Xenosaga 2
Champions: Return to ARMS

Good posibilities:

Dragon Warrior 8
Wild ARMS: The 4th Ignition
Phantom Kingdom
Shining Force Neo
Radiata Stories
Fullmetal Alchemist 2

This looks like the best RPG year the PS2 has had.

I'm getting FF12, KH2, StellaDEus, DQ8, PHantom Kingdom, DDS 1 * , Y's for sure...:) Is Growlanser IV being translated for the U.S. market?

GCN will continue its downward sales trend
XBOX and PS2 will be neck in neck the first 3 qtrs of the year with XBOX inching out a lead thru the 3 qtrs.
XENON will own 4th qtr.

RE4 will sell nice, but wont boost GCN sales much at all and Zelda will be to little to late. Nintendo fans will still be gaga over anything Nintendo produces.

DS will be taken over by the PSP if Sony produces them in quantity. Parents of children with DS will become increasing frustrated replacing stylus's.

Just out of curiosity, how do you know the ones you didn't bold aren't going to be good? For one, many of the ones you didn't bold have been getting critical acclaim. For two, did you even play 98% of the games you bolded/didn't bold to determine how "good" they really were? Or did you, like SolidSnake say, just bold whatever is the "Big Hitters" and claim everything else wasn't good?

Sometimes I think it causes you pain to just admit that PS2 almost always has a stellar lineup, especially in RPGs.

DS & PSP, they'll have the most new exciting games announced and move the most units. Xenon will be extremely supply restricted with an anemic software library(similar to Xbox launch) though it'll be hyped to hell. GC, GBA & Xbox will start winding down while PS2 remains constant in preperation for it's budget relaunch alongside PS3.

Curiously, you skipped over the Xbox and PS2 :P

I just edited because I realized I already posted about RE4 in this thread. I changed it back to let your post make sense but then you edited. :lol

Anyways what does PS2 and Xbox have this year?

You can never mention RE4 enough. It's just phenomenal.

Well, for PS2, just check out that massive list of RPGs :P And that's not even considering all the other genres, from Devil May Cry 3 to Gran Turismo 4 and beyond.

On Xbox you got Forza, Conker, Jade Empire, Phantom Dust, etc...

I love how positive everyone is about the Xenon launch despite no official announcement. I don't doubt that it is coming, but it's still kinda funny.

I just hope they launch the Xenon in Japan this year as well so I don't have to miss the launch... :\

In terms of unit sales, it'll probably be...

01/02 Nintendo DS/PSP (not sure who'll be on top, could be close)
03 PlayStation 2
04 Game Boy Advance
05/06 Xbox/GameCube (Xbox'll have a stong start but the 2nd half of 2005 looks bleak, GC might pass it with a stronger 2nd half)
07 Xenon (launch supply restricted)
08 NGage (ha!)

Noone even knows if it's coming out in 2k5 and if it does, hostiry showns that most launch titles are lackluster at best, so how is it going to have a killer 2k5?

Erm... I misunderstood. I thought you meant anyone using the code-name itself (Xenon) was a moron. :/

Xenon will probably sell 1-1.5 million in 2005 if it launches in November. DS and PSP will both easily clear 10 million next year.

I love how people can take anything (PS2 lineup for example) and make it sound like crap by their twisted logic :lol

"PS2 has no games coming out. I don't like RPGs, sports games (except for ones with Mario characters), arcade games, car sims, online games, non RE4 Capcom games, non Zelda ARPGs, non Star Fox flight games, and games including animals (except for Nintendo 1st party games w/animals), FPS, games with Wanda in the title, etc.. As you can see PS2 has nothing for me."

PS2 of course. GT4+FFXII+Gods of War+Wanda+Devil May Cry 3= :D

GC is going to rock too with RE4 and Zelda. I'm not too excited about Xbox in 2004.

I think the sales charts topics are getting to him, cause it looks like he just picked the games with the best sales potential and listed those as the only games worty getting. I wonder if the dude actually plays games, never seen him in a topic talking about anything but sales.

again, the Xbox schedule this year looks pretty weak. Hopefully, this'll mean that Xenon launches with a really solid lineup.

While I've already stated my surprise and preference for how the Big N might show up this year I'm finding it a little humorous how fast people are willing to write off the Xbox again. Like 'em or hate 'em the momentum they pulled off in 2004 was pretty impressive. If they learn things and implement them even better for the Xenon, it's still going to be a force to reckon with. Especially with all the people this year who bought one over the PS2 (and certainly over the GC). It just sounds like shades of 2 years ago before they ended up cleaning N's clock in the US. I'm sure the Xbox will have it's share of surprise hits as well, the consoles always do.

I literally laughed out loud because that's probably a fairly accurate thought process for some people around 'ere :lol

I'm not writing off microsoft

I'm writing off the current Xbox, because after Jade Empire, there isn't much on the schedule. Considering that MS has no plans to continue Xbox production after the release of Xenon, this isn't suprising. I'm sure Xenon will be a big hit at launch, but like any system launch, there will be (1) a limited number of units available for the first few months and (2) will likely only be on sale for 2 months at most during 2005.

As far as units sold this year, Sony's got it in the bag.

It's not 'hostiry showns', it's history shows.

History also shows that Xbox had Halo, and Snes had SMW at launch.

Xbox will be phased out by the end of the year, so... NO.

I think DS or PSP... which of the two is anyone's guess.

Just stuff that Nintendo fans will write off as nothing but crap while proclaiming anything with a Nintendo franchise character in it or produced by Nintendo as the 2nd coming.

Nintendo lost a alot of potential hardware sale's when RE4 stopped being a Gamecube exclusive with Capcom announcing a PS2 version.

Amir0x said:

Seriously. Rumor has it SCEA product approval failed it. According to Capcom right now, it's multiplatform for Japan and Europe, and GameCube exclusive in America. :/

Oh and here's my 2005 US hardware expectations from the NPD thread...

CONSOLES

PlayStation 2: 5,000,000 to 6,000,000 - Price drop to $129 or $99 will fuel sales growth with mass market pricing, might hurt Xenon upfront a la PSX/DC price drop. Excellent game library, gigantic install base plus tons of great new releases ensure PS2 remains the top console until 2007 imo. It could actually beat these figures, but I think this is what Sony will be able to supply.

Xbox: 2,000,000 to 3,000,000 - Weakening release schedule, lowered production due to high fixed component costs and the impending Xenon launch all point to a very premature decline. Could get a boost from DC style fire sales though, Microsoft will probably try to clear retail channels by 2006. Again, it depends a bit on what Microsoft decides to produce... which likely won't be much with the desired Xenon changeover.

GameCube: 2,000,000 to 3,000,000 - Continued strong 1st party support plus 3rd party deals and Nintendo's strong retail presence will ensure consistant (if dissapointing) sales year over year. 2006 will be the year we see major GC dropoff, and it's potential viability as a buget platform.

Xenon: 1,000,000 to 2,000,000 - Strong launch support and plenty of hype will ensure a solid launch. As usual for hardware launches, demand will outstrip supply though.

HANDHELDS

Game Boy Advance: 4,000,000 to 5,000,000 - Sales will start to dip thanks to next gen handhelds, but not as badly as Japan. Possible price drops could fuel sales growth too, with SP maybe hitting $49-59. Original model GBA will be completely cleared from retail finally.

Nintendo DS: 5,000,000 to 6,000,000 - Sales will accelerate, provided Nintendo can keep supply up. Not as amazing as GBA, but a solid successor platform none the less. Top notch software schedule too, after the usual post launch lull. Expect to start seeing major system sellers appearing this spring and probably a price drop to $99 next fall.

PlayStation Portable - 4,000,000 to 5,000,000 - A strong launch is guanateed, again Sony will be restricted mainly by what they can supply. I expect to see PSP getting more PS2 owners into handhelds than eating into the GBA base, due to pricing and software differences. PSP could have the best 2005 software lineup of any platform imo.

N-Gage QD: 5 to 7 - People might think it's a nice phone.

Whoa... why would SCEA fail the product? What factors cause them to fail something like that? I mean this is just a rumor, but that's crazy.

It won't be Xbox! Outside of Jade Empire / Conker / Spikeout, that looks pretty dire (and SpikeOut will likely sell < 10,000 copies!).

It's not 2-d, so it must be hideous crap! :lol

2004 was year of the Xbox.

2005 belongs to the Cube.

Zelda, Starfox, RE4, Killer 7, Mario 128 Advance Wars GC, Geist (hopefully geist turns out good lol)

I dunno. Just Zelda and RE4 put cube at the top for me. If Namco comes through with Starfox , The cube will be an instant win for me. :)

After a fairly boring 2004 which was completely packed with FPSs, none of which do very well on PS2, it will most likely win 2005 in my book, because of these games:

-Tekken 5
-Suikoden IV
-Dynasty Warriors 5
-Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII
-KOF Maximum Impact 2
-The RumbleFish
-Oz
-Wanda
-SNK NeoGeo packs (KOF 95-99, MotW, Last Blade 1-2, Twinkle Star Spites, etc)
-(possibly) new Castlevania

In particular, Oz looks very interesting, Suikoden 4 IS interesting, and DoC, DW5 and Wanda are sequels to some of my favourite games ever.

That's the #1 reason they've rejected games in the past (though that was mostly back in the PSX days). For example, didn't they reject Metal Gear 3 because SNK refused to make it a multi-game package or something?

No I know I've heard cases of this being so, but I've never actually seen anyone produce evidence that it's the primary reason they reject these games. PSX has a gargantuan amount of 2D games, and PS2 has many 2D games in various genres. And looking at PSP, it has 2D games too.

I mean there has to be a specific reason they would outright reject a game besides just being 2D
