Besides that mindfuck last few chapters, this is the best metal gear solid game ive ever played.

You know that liquid at the bottom of trash cans and dumpsters that's a combination of all the garbage? That's what you played in video game form.

Only CoD campaign I couldn't finish, it was honestly painful.

God I remember this piece of shit.

Waiting for someone to come in and say how the plot is secretly genius cos you didn't get the twist.

Even though said twist is something no one will get through playing the game normally, and even then, it's still a terrible twist!

I still don't get how this happened. WaW, BLOPS1 and BLOPS2 were all vastly superior to IW's offering. I mean Ghosts was shit but this was somehow worse.

You played a terrible campaign that was a shell of the Blops campaigns before it. A travesty.

It really is. The sad thing is I got caught up in the hype train and jumped back into COD for the first time since BLOPS2, I was like "oh yeah, the campaign is gonna ROCK" and then we got...a mess? A mess.

I couldnt play it for more than 3 minutes which is a record for me getting bored from cod campaigns, but guys this looks kinda awesome. ive seen some crazy looking scenes and twists on youtube but mostly people talking about it/trashing it.

can someone explain why this is so bad?

Outcome, Train Goes Boom!!!

Yeah the plot is pretty bad it was kind of fine in the beginning but then it about a third to halfway in it becomes a total mess.

I was amazed that this is how they followed Black op1 and 2. Like holy shit what were they thinking?

I'll just copy and paste the wiki summary of the 'real' story:

The briefings shown before each mission (Taylor's mission reports) reveal that the Player actually died due to complications during their cybernetics surgery. As they lay dying on their surgery bed, they lived out a simulation in their DNI, based on Taylor's experience of he and Hendricks hunting down Dylan Stone and his black ops team (Javier Ramirez, Alice Conrad, and Joseph Fierro), their former teammates who went rogue after discovering the CIA black site. It is hinted that the Player's consciousness lives within Taylor's mind throughout the simulation, and that the Player manages to take over Taylor's body after his death in Cairo until the DNI purge.

I don't get the overwhelming hate for the story, to be honest. It's not great, but I thought it did a good job creating mood, and the mindfuckery is pretty cool. I also really liked the frozen forest thing, felt almost like a poem or something.

Good Corvis AI becomes you who thinks its Commander Taylor. everything after the first mission is a simulation of good Corvis ai trying to make sense of everything, but he has conflicting memories.

This is the only Single Player COD i have left in the middle and didn't bother to look back at it. Although BOP 1 & 2 have far better SP campaign among previous 7 CODs.

The best part is that without slowing down the fast moving text at the start of every mission, you would never understand what actually happens in the plot.

One of the worst twists I've ever seen in a game.

Why the hell this game doesn't continue anything from BO2 is beyond me. I really don't get why they shat on the campaign completely.

I remember being utterly confused the entire time.
The NRC have set up the ARC but the Black Lotus actually want the BNG for themselves so they trick the EUN into stealing the Capital G from the AFC. And the cops knew that internal affairs were setting them up?
Now I'm inside a ladies mind and fighitng zombies but actually everything is just a dream.

I had no idea who I was even supposed to be working for.

Blops 3's campaign was just so fucking bad. It starred the Guy from Farscape but when they said to him during the recording sessions "Hey, Guy from Farscape, your character's going a bit nuts so please channel all those feelings you have from still being Guy from Farscape and emote as if you're sad and disappointed by being known as Guy from Farscape."

It's really weird that due to some of the early games having a story twist that a core aspect of the Call of Duty franchise became really experimental narrative structures, like that couldn't really be more at odds with their blockbuster Tom Clancy subject matter and popularity.

Let's not forget, wave after wave of bullet sponge robots.

Or having to surf an in-universe Geocities website to find out what all the acronyms and who the eff we're fighting are.

Yeah, Black Ops 3 campaign was a mess, and not in a good way. I'm not the biggest CoD fan around, but there are CoDs I genuinely enjoy and BO 1 & 2 are among them, so it's a shame they came up with something so disappointing and boring to play.

And the way they handled the big story twist is laughable, the game doesn't offer nearly enough clues to reach such a conclusion by "normal" means.

Or the cool powers you never get a chance to use.

It bothered me that the female villain was kind of built up. Then you cut off her hand and she gets killed on a side note

Yeah I played until I was in a train car and the guy in the seat across from me smugly reveals we were in a holographic VR scenario.

Everything up to that point was cheeze, but that was freaking dumb and I bailed lol

it just provided more questions than answers! I figure the zombie level was just an easter egg but it just fucking makes no sense in the context of the story Lol.. its just appears out of nowhere!

The frozen forest stuff as well... I... just... cant

I still don't have a clue what the so called story was all about.

AW was far better imo.

Its a shame after the home runs that were WAW, BO1, and BO2...how do you get 3 in a row and then bungle the fourth, its usually the third installment curse

Eh... Ghosts story was dumb, like really really fucking dumb. But I think the levels and such were far more memorable. Though granted still less memorable than previous games.

I found Ghosts kind of charming, it was so ridiculously dumb that I was able to go along with it. That ending twist was hilarous. There's some pretty cool missions too, it's obviously very derivative but it's still alright. The game's campaign gets too much hate IMO. Blops 3 is way way worse.

I'm honestly surprised at how intense the hate is towards the blops 3 campaign.

I enjoyed my time with it and thought the story was fun to pull apart.

Same. The story was fun. Maybe it helps that I don't expect an oscar worthy story in CoD or games in general.

I managed to finish it, but barely. The last few chapters were a slog. I typically enjoy CoD campaigns for the spectacle but this one was terrible.
