What the hell is up with Grand Theft Auto 6??

Almost May of 2025 and no word on the game at all. We got one (1) trailer back in December of 2023, and crickets since. Not even a screenshot. Clearly many, many people are excited for the game. But I'm losing confidence that it will come this year. A delay feels almost inevitable.

So what the hell is up? Is GTA 6 in development hell? Are they truly taking their time to make sure the marketing hits? Or just applying eeeeeextra polish? What gives?

There's an actual reason for the radio silence: corporate owner Take-Two wants keep anticipation high until the game is closer to release, meaning the next time we see GTA 6, its launch might not be far behind.

That comes courtesy of Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, who recently spoke to Bloomberg about the blockbuster

"We've found that the better thing to do is to provide marketing materials relatively close to the release window in order to create that excitement on the one hand, and balance the excitement with the anticipation. We don't always get it exactly right, but that's what we're trying to do."

From a March 30 article.

Gonna be the biggest and best GTA ever once it drops.

Vice City was always the most interesting city so it's about time we get to see a up to date version of it.

Also looking forward to the online mode cause GTA V's online was a lot of fun, spending 2000 hours on it where as many people spend more because of the fun free roam and dlc updates from time to time. Making it the most popular and most played plus one of the highest viewed games too on twitch.

GTA VI should surpass it easily especially in Vice City.

They don't need to waste time, money, and effort letting you know each step they are on. When it's ready it will revealed and release. They could put out zero ads for it and it will be still smash week 1 sales records.

Personally I am grateful for the lack of overblown hype cycle. People who care about it have seen it and know it's coming. That's good enough for now.

Why? It's coming eventually. They showed a trailer. Just wait for it to be done and get on with your life mate.
Why not? is the better question. On one hand, yeah, everyone is basically doing the marketing for them. On the other hand, are we in for another Cyberpunk-style blunder? There's reasonably valid concern in the industry these days that long dev cycles + radio silence can mean disaster. We shouldn't be so naïve to think that Rockstar is exempt from this even with their good track record.

They basically said they're not showing shit because it builds more hype.

They'll drop a Trailer 2 then release it 2 months after. Maximum hype

Release in November, trailer 2 in September.

The only concern comes from people who don't have anything to do in life other than wait for GTA6.

It will be a good game and now please, go live your life and wait for them to release it next year.

I made this thread while pooping at work. I just want to play GTA 6.

4 had a stronger protagonist in Niko and the surrounding cast but the gameplay and mission variety is miles better in V which is actually fun to play IMO.
idk... I liked 4 a lot. Story, characters, physics, ambience of liberty city, attention to detail.
The story was more emotional, focused and impactful.
Missions were good but lacked checkpoint... it's the "old style" gta.

I think they've had to rewrite the games story since the leak, and due to the recent political shift from the past year. The GTA VI we will get will be a lot different to what was originally intended.

It still boggles my mind that V has had 2 Remasters in less then 10 year's and IV has had Zero
Of all the games that need the remake treatment, GTA IV is one of the ones that need it most due to its buggy PC port and being one of the first phase of HD games of the seventh generation which hasn't aged very well. Also odd Rockstar hasn't ported it to mobile, since they did with the 3D trilogy. I'm sure even low end Snapdragon devices can handle GTA IV.

I hope it gets delayed, because once it releases there is ZERO chance for a GTA4 remaster for many many many years and I want that more than I want VI. Probably no chance of a RDR2 60fps bump either.

100% focus will be on GTA Online for years.

There's already a zero chance for a GTA4 remaster, they're not going to release another game that will compete with 6. They want as many players focused on 6 as possible so they can make all the microtransaction money on GTA Online. No point in splitting the fanbase. I doubt we'll ever see a GTA4 remaster, but if it does happen, it won't happen in the next 10 years.

Just like with KH4, it's like people's memory has gotten so short term.

They have done this with every game, nothing is "up" with it. Full marketing will begin later this year. Just like with GTA V, just like with RDR2.

Listen, if we don't get any news about GTAVI by mid May, that shit is being moved to 2026.

They have their marketing window that they like and if we don't see much in the next month, chances are its because its not releasing this year.

They made so money from GT5/rdr2(and continue to) that they can take their sweet time. They can announce it for 2026, delay it in spring 2028 with no problems. If anything, that will only build hype.

The game isn't done.

It's being "completed" by hundreds of outsourcing firms.

99% of the code they submit is unusable.

It will take a year of effort by a real team after it "goes gold."

Did that year start in 2024 or 2025?

Take 2 has an August release so we know they will not walk over that. Probably going to be oct November release.
