Whats the opinion of Capcom's Maximo game within the forum?

I ask because I remember sometime ago there were people very vocal about the game, and in negative ways. I think people were complaining about its difficulty? I'm not really sure anymore though.

I bought the game for 8 dollars used last week and finally got around to playing it a few days ago. To be honest I only expected something decent. 8 dollars of gameplay and I would be happy. What a great game though. The platforming and hack and slash play that accopanies the coin and treasure collecting is pretty addicting. Its a 3D sequel done right in my opinion.

I play the game using Monster Cables and man does it ever look HOT. The clean look and the textures stand out so much, one of the best looking PS2 games in my opinion.

Hopefully the game is aleast a 10 hour playthrough. I'm not the type to speed through a game. What takes some of you pros 10 hours often takes me twice that. But anyways what's your opinion of the game?

And,how does it compare its followup? Just knowing that there is one is pretty damn good to know. I'm loving Maximo allot right now.

I never know how long a game took me because I'll get up and do other stuff for hours at a time while it's running, but I had a lot of fun with Maximo. It's been a while since I played it but there were some zones I went through at least ten times and didn't mind it at all. It's one of those games where I really wanted to beat my own best score on every level, which is something that happens all too infrequently anymore. Good music, great art direction, cool powerups, and it stays fun all the way up until the end. I never got bored with it.

Still don't have the sequel, though.

I was very pleasantly surprised by the first, and I'm not really into platformers either. Never played the second though as the first pretty much gave me my fill of Maximo.

I found the game lacking and dull.

Bought, played about 4 hours and sold it (first one)

didn't bother playing AOZ

Going from a distant memory, I thought it was kinda fun, but mostly uninteresting. Well, interesting enough that I gave the game a fair chance and nearly beat it before moving on to something else. Specifically, the platforming was lame and the combat was nothing special. Also, the levels themselves were generally just passages. When you make level design so simple like that, I expect much more creativity than what they gave. Overall, I wasn't always sure why I continued playing. Maybe because the music was fun.

Haven't played AoZ yet, but would like to. It's apparently the better game.

The sequel is better than the original, and that's coming from someone who considers the original to be a classic.

What it fixes: no more "trick" enemies that require a fixed, specific sequence of attacks to beat; better save system; more diverse level designs; vastly superior combat system; cooler bosses.

What it breaks: a little easier; a little shorter; a little less platforming and a little more fighting.

If you liked part one, do NOT pass up Army of Zin. Period. It's the best action-platformer of this generation, in my opinion.

Maximo:Ghosts to Glory and Maximo:Army of Zin IMO are the best platformers on PS2 and probably the best platformers this generation. Both of the games differ greatly from each other. Maximo 1 is very difficult and is focused on platforming and skill management, while Maximo 2 (Army of Zin) is much more action oriented. You can find both of them for $10 each by now so I greatly suggest everyone give them a try.

Edit: I agree with Drinky Crow

I liked the game a lot. It was tough at first but once I got the timing down, the game really grew on me. I'm not sure how long it took me to beat the game though. I didn't collect everything.

It's one of my favorite games this gen. Have yet to play the sequel.

I loved both games. I didn't have a problem with Maximo 1's difficulty, though. Hell, the save system didn't bother me either, maybe because I had such a surplus of coins and tokens by the time I finished the game.

Really the only platformers I enjoyed this gen, outside of some mild enjoyment from Sunshine. Here's hoping for Maximo 3.

Damn, the freaking power has been on and off within my area. Sorry about the late reply.

Anyways the tones from most of you sound cool,in that the game is pretty solid all throughout then. I was afraid that the game would maybe hit a snag lin its 2nd half or something. Its really a damn good effort from Capcom and its easily one of my favorite platformers this generation. Maybe its too soon to say that? Honestly, unless this game completely abandons its good/fun play mechanics then I'm thinking its an instant classic for me.

Hearing that the sequel goes even further sounds great. Dunno it it can be had for 10 bucks around here, last time I looked it was still 30. But thanks for the views. As much as I'm enjoying Maximo I already want its sequel.

+100 Capcom.

This was my favorite platformer this gen for a long time, maybe it still is but I haven't played it in a while. I liked the linear level desgin because it kept exploration and collecting in check and allowed for some great platforming. I don't know why I never bought Army of Zin. I think seeign Maximo in every bargain bin ever had something to do with it...

Why do people not like this game again??
