So I went to the Gamestop midnight launch to get my PSP,and it was a nightmare I arrived at 11:45 PM, and there was about a 100 people in front of me. I went inside the store at around 1:45 AM in the morning a solid 2 hour wait outside in the cold. It wouldn't of been so bad but I stepped into a big puddle and both my feet got wet standing in 34 degree weather with wet feet for 2 hours is not fun. It was snowing and hailing the floor was all slushy it was miserable. If anyone is interested I preordered at the gamestop in broadway, and astor right by New York University. I wished I brought by digicam to takes picks but I forgot it home.
Finally got home at around 2:30 AM, with much apprehension I opened the box and inside a cardboard inlet there was a puffy styrophome type wrapper. I very cautiously took it out, immediatly under a bright light I notice 3 faint hairline scatches. I immediatly rip open the instructions and take out the cleaning cloth, and wiped the PSP no good, I snorted in disgust for this did not bode well. I put in the battery and fumled with the battery cover for several minutes (seriously) it did not go in right one side would stick out a little.
Palms sweaty I turned on the PSP and inputed the nickname (Lancelet Pink is the nickname also my xbox gamertag for those of you who didn't know), time, and other stuff. So far so good the screen looked good no signs of a dead pixel, I immediatly put in wipeout pure and crossed my fingers. It booted and a bright white screen with the PSP text appeared I furiously combed the screen with my eyes and much to my delight, there was no signs of a dead pixels, YES!!! this was awesome news, it felt like I won a prize seriously!!!
I also pressed the square button over a 100 times to see if it would get stuck. I pressed it in rapid succesion, slow and hard, (get your minds out of the gutter, perverts) and alternated with other buttons. The good news is the square button felt just like the other face buttons.
The final test administered by me was the twisting test to see if the UMD would come flying out, I gently twisted it, and started twisting with more force up to a reasonable level, the good news is the UMD stayed put, the bad news was the UMD slot moved a little I dont know how this will pan out with further use of the PSP, so this test is still ongoing I suppose...
Overall I'm satisifed with my PSP handheld, I was very worried I would get a dud with multiple dead pixels, a wonky square button, and a deadly tactical UMD launcher (joke based on the ps2 hype where congress was worried the PS2 was powerful enough to computate complex geometry for launching missile capability) Ok so it wasn't that funny but hey it's 5 AM right now.
MY PSP:
just 3 hairline scratches, better get a screen protector ASAP, I'm hearing good things about the Exim brand.
So how did your U.S PSP fare?
crap it came out blurry I'm to tired to take another pic, it is the bootup screen for wipeout pure, not a dead pixel in site. =)
MY PSP loot.
