The level of journalism in this industry is really low. Almost every site I visit seems to have a a bias.

Gamespot's getting better but navigating the site is a horror. Also you can tell that many of their reviews have written without clocking the game. Its kinda like writing a movie review without watching the whole film.

IGN's looks like its written by fanboys, complete with rivalries goin on between its sites. Its doesnt take a idiot to figure that xbox.ign.com is completely biased towards the Xbox, the same with the PS2 and PSP sites. The editors at the cube site seem lazy and spend more time commenting on how they think Nintendo should be be run.

Gamespy loves PC games.

Honestly, now.

There's nothing more trite than bitching about junior members but this is really beginning to get ridiculous.

Just because IGNXbox gave RAW a 9.1 doesn't mean they're biased!!!

I don't know if I agree with what he's said but...

I think they all need to cut out some of the politics and business commentary IMO. The people who give a shit ram it down everyone's throats on each respective sites' messageboards anyway.

I suppose this is what you get though. I mean, the hardware companies really jostle with each other in this industry. They know we're reading too. I think they put out carefully augmented and appropriate PR, clever spin, and basically all the ammo we need to fire away at them all with. And you've got things like E3 too. A lot of plans are kept secret until that point and revealed... it becomes a "who is gonna make the best of this show" type event for journalists.

I would like to see a site just about games. Fuck the platforms or whatever, and the businesses who run them. But ya never know... it mightn't be as fun that way :D

Did you stop to think that the level of journalism is simply tilting towards the casual majority now?

Granted, IGN seriously needs to look into some sort of proofreading. Personally, I don't even go to IGN that much anymore, unless it's to update my game collection (which I should really just find a Pocket PC program for).

As for your allegations regarding GameSpot's staff not "clocking" games, you don't seriously believe that they're alone, do you? In an age of trying to be "first" and with so many games out there to cover... it's a relatively common practice now.

Lastly, there's going to be bias everywhere. You can't escape it.

There's this website, calling gaming-age, they gave Ninja Gaiden a C-. They are totally biased against Itagaki.

My problem with IGN is that it is basically a biased fan site with industry contacts.

It has borrowed so many of what fan sites did back in the 90s and took it as their own. Mainly the 'editorial' and 'commentary' aspects of the writing, which IMHO doesn't really have a place in a major game publication, especially not in the way IGN do their writing, which is of the shallow kind written through the prism of fandom. 'Next-Generation' quality editorial they are not. This is especially true with IGNcube which has teamed up with N-sider.

Really, when it's a slow news day, I don't really care for reading about what some people over at N-sider think about something. If I wanted to, I'd be surfing around the fansites. IGN should be doing their homework and be presenting news, interviews and 'meaningful' features that their resources can get.

Admission time. I used to be part of a site called "N64 Surge". There was a clear bias demonstrated toward one of the hardware manufacturers, which will remain nameless.

just like every poster here i am sure every reviewer has a certain amount of Bias. Its unavoidable.....but then again i would never let SSX review a Konami game or Craig M review a nintendo game.

The only magazine or website in the English language I regularly read is Edge. In Spanish I usually check http://www.gamerah.com. The only bias they so far seem to have is against communism. And EA. And Japan. And Phil Collins. And almost everything on Earth, but other than that they're very objective.

Edge is very biased towards the relatively small japanese developer, e.g. Treasure or From Software.

N-sider features are great.

N-sider features are great.

Great how?

They are fine for a fansite. But why are IGN using them as filler content? They're nothing more than opinions which Matt also has a lot of, especially in that terrible article he wrote about what he'd like to see in future sequels of Nintendo games.

Maybe that's how the N-Sider features are most useful -- they keep Matt from writing more of his fantastical game ideas, such as believing that the next Mario game needs to somehow incorporate Peach being forced to give Bowser oral sex while three Koopa children defecate on her.

I've heard "beat", "win", "conquer", "clear", "finish", "solve", and even "flip." But never "clock." You winnar!

Clock is old-school. Like, C64-old-school. I don't even remember what it originally means.

N-Sider had an amazing article on the history and inner workings of Retro studios. It was an article that I'm sure took more time and effort than anything IGN CUBE has done in the last 2 years.

I don't know how anyone can dismiss N-Sider features as 'okay for a fansite'.

exactly. Clock is really old school. In sweden we said "varva" which is very C64 and NES like.

This topic is more proof on why Junior Members shouldn't have the privelages to make topics

I guess it's like "flip", which in early arcade games was used to indicate that you'd flipped the score counter back to zero. Clock would seem to be a variation on that.

Thats it right there.

great topic edit.

Well, no shit. Next you'll be telling me that The Official Playstation Magazine leans a bit towards the PS2.

I approve of the topic change, but I would much rather see more action being taken. It's getting really fucking annoying to wake up day after day to a new "HELLO GAF! I LIKE TO BE AN IDIOT!" type of topic. >_<

I’m not speaking for all junior members but I feel it would be a horrific act of censorship if I were not permitted to create a topic I think would benefit the GAF community, I’m not saying that rules should not be set up “such as a three strikes rule on inappropriate topic creation” but to just out right ban a group of posters is wrong and also it is deeply troubling to see an idea like this suggested as many times as it has in this post.

Repeat after me. There are no stupid post’s just inappropriate ones. :)

:lol :lol @ this thread

I've been laughing my ass off recently reading GAF, so it's all good! This thread is gold, as is the junior haze thread over at ot. But my favorite of the day is the thread about the Rainbox Six 4 name and "logo" obviously posted by a junior from Ubi PR. Too bad nobody cared about those exclusive revelations!

Oh, and totally unrelated maybe, but the I'm married with Peach is a classic, too.
