What's with the fucking flood of idiots lately? Jesus fuck I'm going to ban you all.

Ummm, no. This is an urban myth perpetuated by the Stuart Smalleys of the world.

In truth, there are plenty of stupid questions, stupid people, and stupid posts.

This guy does not speak for me.

Thanks,

Damn and you were doing so well until that last sentence... there are stupid posts... they are made here unfortunately quite regularly.

Yeah, cry me a river.

No, there are some pretty freakin' stupid topics being made. Either in the form of baiting, repeats, or some combination of the two. The idea put forward yesterday is pretty sound: No topic creation allowed until you're out of the Junior Member forest, which would (kind of) prove that you know how to interact with others around here and, generally, not be an overall jackass.

Think of it as the license you get when you're 16. You're not allowed to drive at night, and maybe you need an adult with you when you're behind the wheel.

Either in the form of baiting, repeats, or some combination of the two.

As a member of the old GAF formuns and a shiny new junior member, I'd have to say that the behavior described above is repeated by members.

The endless bitching festivals, damage control threads (seems like people just have a start a thread to balance out other threads) are all over the place.

A better way would be to evaluate the people individually and deal with idiocy on a case by case basis, as all posters, junior or otherwise are quite capable of being idiots. I've seen some of this done in previous posts. I believe Galian Beast had his handle changed for some reason, but apparently, it was punishment for being an idiot.

Ok let me repost my quote that I posted after looking at my own statement. I see it really had no reason to be in my initial post.

I am not sure but at the time I think it had some point to make.

Though I will stand by my opinion that there are no stupid people or post because personally I think I can gain knowledge / wisdom from any reasonable person, written word or in this case posted Topic.

Perhaps "clock" derives from "to clock in" -- the idea of spending time on the game itself, similar to spending time at work?

No doubt members do it too, but the issue at hand here is that lately in the past week or so just about EVERY thread that you look at, groin, click on expecting the worst and get something even WORST, is also started by a junior member. It's getting worst and really really telling.

Let my cry a bit more for you.

I believe junior member should prove that they cannot be a responsible poster before rights are taken away. Not the other ways around where in they are from the moment they join are deemed a troll, jackass or idiot before even making there first post. Where I'm from you are innocent until proven guilty!

"The level of journalism in this industry is really low. "

There aren't many journalism majors covering video games now because there isn't much money in it. So you get what you get.

Rights? This is a message board, it's not bound by anything other than the whims of the mods, admins, and the TOS.

Admins, please continue to take it on a case by case basis.

Seriously, the junior guys are trying. The 5+ page threads consist mostly of flamebait and damage control topics so what kind of posting behavior do you expect from them?

Since everybody responds to "intellectual" flamebait posting, they post something similar and wham!, they get nailed.

The banning is a bit heavy handed here is all I'm saying. If the topic sucks, just close the thread!

I don't think those words really go there.

"Clock" goes back all the way to the Game And Watch era. (And maybe before that, but that's where I heard it first) If it started there I would assume it's derived from the way the score area on those games was also used for the "Watch" - ie, clock. When you score 9999 (or whatever) and then get more points the score goes back around to 0000. In other words, you made it around the "clock".

I give this post a 6.8 :lol

But seriously, how come you are so angry about XBox websites favoring the XBox... Doesn't that seem logical? I'm not going to ign.ps2.com if they are going to bash the PS2 to hell and tell me tht if I don't own a GCN I'm nothing. Then again I might just be using my brain, and from your stand-point that apears to be the wrong thing to do.

Its all gravy guy, I understand your point of view I just don’t agree with it.

Yikes, someone new comes in here who isn't poisoned by the GAF groupthink and you all pounce on him like white on rice. He's right and apparently the truth hurts and you guys are all showing it.

woah there, are you saying you in fact do not agree with the terms of service?

No I am not saying I do not agree with the terms of service.

And Hournda I appreciated your comment.

I'd just like to say the 'like white on rice' thing was funny as hell.

I've heard "beat", "win", "conquer", "clear", "finish", "solve", and even "flip." But never "clock." You winnar!

Also "roll over", which I would assume is referring to rolling over the score to zero like an odometer. I used to hear it especially in reference to the Pac-Man arcade game, which had had an infamous glitch if you cleared 255 boards. This wasn't uncommon given how susceptible the game was to pattern-playing, so I remember guys talking about "rolling over" Pac-Man. Although...sounds more like it had a sexual connotation to it :lol

"Rolling over" scores is the term that I generally use when coin-op playing. When playing Midway's Sea Wolf, for example, the score resets after 9,900 points. Happily Twin Galaxies was there to witness my feat and give me the distinction of being the first player to do so, according to their records.

I miss going up to those classic coin-op competitions... maybe in 2005 I'll go again.

OK... back to the topic at hand. Sorry.

Slang use of the word "clock" is making me think of an old-time police interrogation.

You're comin' down to the station house, see? And you're gonna spill the beans, see? Keep your trap shut and I'm gonna clock you one good! I'll clock you like I clocked Grandia! Then I'm gonna pretend you wuz Eternal Darkness and clock you twice more, see? So start talkin'!

5. clock

And this is surprising how? Journalists no matter what they cover always have a bias towards the stuff that pays their bills. Ralph Kiner covers the mets and obviously has a mets bias.

Same goes for the reporters from whatever country that has people involved in the middle east.

This has been going on for thousands of years, its human nature.

Get over it.
