SHOOTY McRAD DICK
1. My 500GB Hard Drive will randomly die after a while of using the computer. This seems to be fixed.

2. My monitor will turn off, come back on and windows tells me my graphics card died.

3. Sometimes my computer freezes completly. I suspect that this is in relation to point 1.

4. A fan is making an annoying noise

5. Firefox won't let me log into GMail without clearing cookies - same with GamesPress forums. Please help me fix this shit

6. In retalation to point 5, I installed Google Chrome. That program doesn't seem to recognise my middle mouse button

I'm about ready to kick this shit out the window.

What's wrong with your PC?

Nothing's wrong with my pc, it's working fine. Sorry to hear about yours though

1) your gfx card is dying/overheating (windows says that it restarts the gfx drviers right?)

2) your HDD is probably dying.

3) If your HDD isn't dying, somehow, then you might have memory errors

4) the firefox thing, no idea, but that doesn't matter cuz you probably have the rplace the HDD/gfx anyawy.

EDIT: Oh, you actually were asking about our PCs, :lol

Ah shit.

Edit: Its an 8800 GTS or something, and it has a giant fan and takes up like two slots, one for cooling. Seems like a card thats prone to over heating.

Its not very frequent though, luckily.

It is incredibly slow. It has to think for about ten seconds (or more) and run the fans like crazy to open any program.

My browser freezes a lot. Video, both streaming and local, is choppy as hell, though online video is even worse because it can't buffer quickly enough, so I get to watch about one second at a time, then ten seconds of loading. This isn't an Internet issue, as my wife's computer handles video okay.

The batteries are dead, so I have to leave it plugged in all the time.

I actual got a vundo reinfection. It's the only issue I have with my computer, but it's a doozy when I have to fix it.

Everything else is nice and polished; I need some more storage, but that's hardly a problem.

To check out the gfx card and the HDD, speedfan works. You can see the temps that your gfx card is running at and you can also view SMART data inside the newest speedfan.

How old is your PC? You have a litany of problems that go beyond the usual spyware/virus stories.

I would not stand for a hard drive that dies. You can't live like that. Buy a nice new laptop.

This one im using right now has the following issues:

-No DVD Drive (LOL)
-Side of case opened up with a small house fan blowing into the case, or else it shuts off.
-Pretty sure this videocard has damage from attempted OC at one point.

This isn't my primary PC though, but I use this one a lot.

lul

Eh its cool just wanted to vent.

And strangely enough, this fucking gmail problem is more annoying than an HDD or GFX card dieing and possibly exploding.

My priorities are all wrong.

No longer am I able to enjoy the desktop space and color quality of what one GDM FW900 monitor allows let alone two. PSU's are rarely big enough if you have multiple components, a few HDD's and tv tuners will do that to you, just glad I don't work with sound. Never have slots open to attach the range of controllers I use. Windows and most os systems suck with consistently sticking to one color space of your choice and using it in everything you do. Still not able to do crysis high at 1080p with 60fps average, but then again good luck finding anything that does.

Heh, I just posted a thread about my PC problems. Posting from my PS3. Maybe I'll get a response here.
1. Pressing F8 on booting, I can only choose Start Windows Normally. I can't select Safe Mode or any other option.
2. XP won't boot past the User Login Screen. Resets once it tries to load past that point. (which is why i need to get into safe mode..but can't)

Is there any reason why you can't just pop in a Linux Live CD, backup your stuff on an External HD and reformat? Isn't there also a way to try and fix this kind of errors using the Windows install CD?

My computer's just fine btw.

Vista takes about a minute to wake up from hibernate, but i think that might be normalish (4gb ram, 5400rpm hdd)

that and sometimes the keyboard doesn't recognize key presses.

other than that, i <3 my laptop

Really? I'm running two drives, nine case fans, 8800gt, and regularly output to my TV and monitor at the same time, on a relatively mid-low range 550w PSU. Get a solid Corsair unit and I'm pretty sure you'll have little trouble running anything.

Vista takes 3-5 minutes to shutdown. It hangs on the "Shutting down..." screen.
It might be waiting for other programs to shut down safely. Or maybe not.

But if it is the case, you can edit the amount of time Windows waits in the registry. You'd have to look it up though.

Download Speedfan ( http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php ) and check out the diagnostics from your S.M.A.R.T. output. You might be having a failing hard drive, and if so you'd be really smart to migrate to a new disk before this one goes completely dead.

2. My monitor will turn off, come back on and windows tells me my graphics card died.

Update video card drivers-and do it properly, with the uninstall-driversweep in safe mode-install method, I know that nVidia had some issues with this in Vista a while back.

3. Sometimes my computer freezes completly. I suspect that this is in relation to point 1.

Might be bad RAM, might be overheating of the CPU/GPU. Memtest the RAM first and then grab coretemp or something to keep an eye on temperatures.

4. A fan is making an annoying noise

Check to see if a wire is hitting the fan or if the noise is coming due to a loose screw or connection between the fan and casing. If not, then your options are to lubricate the fan or replace it. Fans are cheap, and if you are overheating a better one might be quieter and move more air anyway.

5. Firefox won't let me log into GMail without clearing cookies - same with GamesPress forums. Please help me fix this shit

Can you try it with a new firefox profile without any extensions running? My bet is that there's some unholy combination running that's gumming up the works.

6. In retalation to point 5, I installed Google Chrome. That program doesn't seem to recognise my middle mouse button

I don't think Chrome does the middle mouse button thing.

OP, have you tried buying a duster and, you know, cleaning your PC? Are you sure it's just not extremely dirty?

And about Firefox, why won't it let you log into gmail? What kind of error do you get? You could always set Firefox to clear the cookies/cache everytime you exit the browser if you're sure that's it, but I find it really odd. Check your extensions/add-ons too, try disabling them all and see if it's still happening.

Cheers buddy, you and zoku88 actually offered some great advice - didn't really expect it!

The google problem is very weird - It has my email address bolded ready for a password. I enter it, and it just reloads the page, and asks for the password again, and again, and again. Clearing my cookies works, but thats far from a fix, as I have to do it everytime this crops up, then log back into GAF/wherever

I also ran Firefox in Safe Mode, to no avail. There are a BUNCH of results on google about this problem, but can't find any solutions. I havn't even changed Firefox or anything lately, I can only assume its Extensions, so I guess I'll uninstall them, instead of just disabling.

Thanks again.

iMac g4 17' 1ghz 1gb ram osx 10.6 slow as hell (Bought in 2003, was ULTRA EXPENSIVE)

laptop celeron m 1.4ghz 512ram with windows 7 super fast no problem (Received as a present in 2004, but I think was super cheap)

I wasted a lot of money with that g4, I'll never buy a mac AGAIN

My isp installed a router so that my sister's noitebook could connect to the internet however i get this weird message sometimes when i try to look up a webpage:

"object not found

The requested URL '/zCfgTryAgain.html' was not found on the RomPager Advanced server."

restarting the router that i had installed seems to fix it tough.

Fans don't do too much damage. I'm 4 drives and 2 tuners plus other junk when I go up or try computer never boots. I will give Corsair a try when I build my new machine at the end of the year or next year, any word on how long they last from constant usage?

NINE FANS?

I had three drives and a 8800GTS on about 480, and my Mouse/Keyboard went totally batty.

Every time I start up, something in my computer (fan?) makes a loud clicking/clunking noise at a rate of about two per second for a good 10-15 seconds. It kinda sounds like the sound the computer makes when it finishes shutting down.

That didn't bother me too much, but then recently I've another problem, possibly related. Pretty much every time I start up my computer these days, it gets to the point just before it would go to grub (right after the "boot from CD" prompt), then it says something like "Boot Disk Error: Insert boot disk." So far, I've never had this happen twice in a row - if I turn off the computer while it's on this screen, then turn it on again, it works fine. Not sure how worried I should be about this.

Oh, and on a lighter note, my Office 2007 can't seem to handle being closed. Every time I close Word/Excel/Powerpoint, a message pops up that says "An error has occurred. Microsoft Word has been forced to close." I then have the option of reopening the file I just closed, and sending an error report to Microsoft. Useful.

I'll look into LiveCD. Problem is re-installation since I got my copy of XP via digital distribution through my school back in 2001. I think I just need a new computer, honestly..but I just can't afford it. Computer's going on 7 years with minor upgrade to the MB and CPU.

I've not had a Corsair, using a Cooler Master right now. Corsair PSUs are regarded on the best on the market, however. Though it shouldn't be used exclusively as your buying guideline, a 450 watt Corsair is often said to be comparable in terms of sheer output as other brands' PSUS in the 550-650+ range. They've a solid reputation for reliability as well.

Again, shouldn't be your sole criteria, but solid top scores across the board on Newegg. If I were getting a new PSU, I'd be more likely to invest in Corsair than anything else.

Seven 120mms, two 80mms. :lol Mind you, this doesn't include my GPU and CPU coolers.

I'll admit, you two are making me paranoid and itching to get a new PSU with my new hardware upgrades. :lol

I'm kinda disappointed the super expensive g4 is beaten by a super cheap celeron m :/

EDIT: aha h sorry I mean 10.5 :lol

Broken right-click button on my work laptop, an HP/Compaq NC6000. Got a wireless mouse to replace it. Also, Excel hangs like CRAZY if I put too many formulas in. I can sometimes do nothing for a half-hour at a time.

Personal-use laptop, an old ASUS S5N, dies on me if I plug the laptop cooler into the USB plugs on the left side. If I plug it in on the right, no problems. But I have gone through three keyboards, a hard drive, and a fan/heatsink, so it's not like it has been trouble-free.

It's been running smoothly for the year i've had it. The only problem i have now is with Vista search. i enabled natural search, but i have no idea what the search terms are. i tried to install Windows Desktop Search but it said it's not compatible with my version of Vista (x86 Home Premium) for some reason. i've also noticed that when i go to the start menu and type "tas", it finds Task Scheduler and Task Manager, but if i actually type "task", it won't find either. On every SP1 machine i've tried this on, it doesn't do this.

So, i'm about to install SP1 (Vista). Made a backup of my current install using Ghost to a network machine, and i'll probably make a local backup of my important files on another partition. i was originally going to do a fresh install of Vista, but this is my main machine and i don't have time to set it up again.

It needs a new video card. Can anyone recommend an AGP video card that can run S.T.A.L.K.E.R ?

p4 2.4 GHz, btw

1) Never boots up on first try; have to do initial boot and then press reset button after the first bios screen pops up.

2) Time/date always reset.

3) Loud.

I must endure like Batman, before switching over to a Mac next fall! :p

It's 6 years old and still runs like a champ! sometimes has problems booting up and it sounds like a jet airplane at night when I'm trying to go to bed.

None, surprisingly (Vista x64). I was having problems with Left 4 Dead off and on for a while but some fresh drivers took care of that. I dusted out my case the other day too so it's not even dirty :D

Mine is dead thanks to crappy heatsink that took out the CPU. Currently working on an intel i7 920 build. Still incomplete and will post specs on the 2009 New PC thread when done.

1. Boots up way too slow for some reason (1 minute+).
2. My 74GB Raptor is getting way too cramped.
3. My CPU can't encode shit so I can't properly transcode HD stuff to my PS3.
4. My GPU can't render shit so I can't properly play any new games.
5. I have five fans in my system, none of them being bigger than 80mm. Loud as fuck.

I need a new system but i'm waiting for cheaper Nehalem-based CPUs to come out, and for DDR3 prices to drop.

Video Card's fried. Can't play Warcraft :((((((

Can't watch certain kinds of embedded video, either. Only comes up rarely, though.

It also makes a real weird noise on startup. Then stops. It's been around a while. It's a good soldier.
