What's your favorite secondary controller / sub-platform of all times? ( Light Guns , Power pad , Kinect , PS Move , PSVR , Wii Balance Board etc)

I only remember playing Duck Hunt with Nintendo Zapper but I believe it had more games I just don't remember playing them. I remember the paddle controller for Atari but I was grown before I really appreciated them .

The Power Pad is my favorite from my childhood but I only remember the Track & Field game but as a kid that was enough & justified the giant pad .

I don't really like VR for some reason so I have missed out on the last few generations of secondary platforms so PlayStation Move is still my all time favorite secondary platform.

What are your favorites?

Imagining if they found a fix for light guns /Guncon for new TVs & packed a light gun in with the next gen consoles is actually what lead me here.

But I guess the advancements in Gyro technology next generation will probably be as close as we will get to having a new standard for shooting games .

I just don't know why they don't port them to VR ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
 
Gotta go with the quest 3 controllers. ditching the sensor rings was a good move for the overall design

I had a few friends with the Power Glove but I've never tried it myself. Every time I asked them to try it out I got a response like "no way, the Power Glove fucking sucks and you don't want to use it, trust me."

Definitely the coolest looking though.
 
DDR dance pad. I probably used this more than any zapper or steering wheel attachment. I always hung out at the arcade during my teens and played it all the time. Met a few girls playing too.

I dont have a quest 3 but the sensor rings aren't even noticeable while actually in VR and and serve double duty as hand protectors. What is the advantage?
 
This 100%. I still play Rock Band regularly when I have friends over or am having a party. It's still just as fun as it was when it first came out.

I'd say honorable mention to the Wiimote + Nunchuk. I wasn't a huge fan of motion controls, but I always liked the way those controllers felt in the hands, and mostly enjoyed pointer controls.

I guess that's true. For some reason in my mind, it still feels like an experimental secondary controller, since the Wii still had a normal pro controller.

I mean, the Quest controllers are also the "main controller" for that system, and it seems to count.
 
I think the simplicity and instant appeal of the light gun wins. It's never been easier to get someone to try a console game than Duck Hunt.

But the Quest it self can be used as a sub-platform on PC

They changed the mold slightly to fit in your hand better.

As for the ring itself, i play in a very inclosed space, the ring was notorious for hitting the wall (accidentally) while I was swinging my arms about.
With the newer controllers, my knuckle is what hits the wall.

My hand will heal, my old controllers would not.

I think PS VR counts because it is an add-on peripheral for Playstation. Quest is a standalone device where the pack in controller is the default control method.

On Wii U, the standard kit shifted to a standard controller with a screen in it. Pro controller was just the Gamepad without a screen, so to speak. The Wii didn't have a Pro controller. Just the "Classic" pad, intended largely for virtual console games. Very similar yes, but it looked like a SNES pad, no handles.
 
I love experimental control options and a sucker for trying out the latest tech. VR with valve index controllers are my favorite by far, but love all the stuff that came before like the rock band instruments, karaoke mics, DDR pads, taiko drum master, racing wheels, flight sticks, 3d tvs, wii motion+, ps move is cool, they eye toy was great for party games.
They all increase your immersion making playing more fun. Sometimes just learning a new control interface with these devices is rewarding in itself.
 
Move, Eye, Buzz and Wonderbook were all great on the PS3.

PSVR and PSVR2 were the logical next step in what essentially was the concept of motion-based gaming.

I would have really liked a half-step of Wii HD where the default controller from day one was closer to Motion Plus. We skipped something truly great.

From what I seen of Switch 2 the motion tracking seems to be high fidelity so there is a chance they will have some great motion controlled games.

We have the capability, but we missed the craze. I hope so, but I don't think we will get a wave of titles in every genre like on Wii attempting to take advantage of it. At best, likely half-baked optional modes that aren't integral to the gameplay.

For example Cyberpunk has optional motion controls now, but the game was never built around that. Like Twilight Princess. We won't get many/any Skyward Swords.

I do get pretty tense in multi-player and it always sucked when they broke mid-match and the disorientation from your mech being stuck twisted in one direction while moving in another. Also, I'm pretty sure we saw version of this setup for an Ace Combat game for PS2 or X360.

I had one of these, so good. Goat lightgun and absolutely bought the arcade experience at home. Shame we never got a recoil version like in the Time Crisis arcade machines.

Really enjoyed using the DDR (Dance Dance Revolution) mat as as well.
