When does Battalion Wars 'get good'?

I'm on Mission Three and so far it's just, run to star...fight something...run to next star...fight something.

Aren't there like...open battlefields where I'm running around the battle fighting?

Mission 5 or 6, I think. The first 4 or 5 are training.

you're still knee-deep in the tutorial --- look through the instruction-booklet and take a gander at how many units/machines you haven't even seen yet.

Mission 6 usually bitch-smacks people arround a bit before you head out of the tutorial.

Nice!
I'm on FOUR now...TOTALLY screwed up the last one (where they kept pouring in on both fronts).

They said recon tanks or whatever were coming from the rear and infranty from the front so I brought my infantry to the rear and left the bazooka guys in the front...

Yeah, everyone got decimated...I won it (got a B, too) but it was ugly.

ONWARD.

Up to the fourth mission, you are still in the tutorial. You haven't even gotten to the good units yet. It would be assanine to judge the game just from the first few missions, even if they weren't a tutorial. The game gets much, much better. Especially when you have these big battlefields that you have to traverse and delegate your units appropriately.

I'm on mission 8 now...I think mission 5 was my favorite so far. It reminded me alot of Ghost Recon.

The game is a blast, mission 6 was actually quite easy. I got a C because of my time (A big fat 0) but my technique and power were both quite high.

Mission 8 is a doozy, I'm just not comfortable enough with the controls to send units to the right place while doing everything else. That will take time, but it's really cool.

To be honest, I'm VERY surprised this kind of a game was published by Nintendo. Production values are high, music is nice, and it has CG.

I'm impressed by the experience...but this beach storm is insane (those damn acid troops knock my ass out).

If they don't make a Revolution version of this (ONLINE BITCH), than I will be PISSSSED.

This game is screaming for multiplayer.

When you return the game to your local retail establishment and in purchase Advance WARS: Dual Strike instead.

Or, if you really want a GameCube game, wait a few more days and get FIRE EMBLEM, aka GAME OF THE YEAR!

I dunno about that. It's coming out alongside Shadow of the Colossus.

Though it will be a hard-fought battle!

On-topic: Battalion Wars sucks.

While I haven't played Shadow of the Colossus, I have played Path of Radiance extensively. I know FE has the gameplay to knock anything else out this fall for Game of the Year. Colossus will have to be about a billion times better than ICO to even start matching up to the awesomeness that is Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance. Seriously.

BUY FIRE EMBLEM.

Well, I surely won't argue with that.

This past week, I purchased Advance Wars DS and Fire Emblem for GBA. Now, I like Advance Wars, but I really like Fire Emblem... a lot more. Will I like this GameCube iteration then? How 'bout the Sacred Stones?

Also, fuck Shadow of the Colossus.

Shadow of Colossus for the win.

This game didn't turn out to be as good as I hoped :(

I can't specifically comment on the Gamecube version as I have not played it yet, but the core gameplay is the same, so there isn't really a reason why you shouldn't like.

The same goes for Sacred Stones but keep in mind that it is much easier than the FE game you have now. IMO, the characters weren't much better, but the story was just as solid. The main quests, individually, are shorter than the game you have right now as well, but there are two main quests in Sacred Stones so that makes up for it.

There are also the additions of a world map which allows you to visit previous shops and armories as well as playing through special challenges to gain extra experience. This makes the game easier. In Sacred Stones, there are also a few new character classes, as well as the ability to choose which class you want a certain unit to evolve into, as opposed to having a linear evolution path which is the way the system is in the FE game you purchased.

Sacred Stones is great.

+Dungeons
+FFT-like overworld
+Ability to choose between the classes to upgrade to
+Two different paths
+High replayability level
-Short
-Characters aren't as good as they were in FEVII
-Ditto for story

I'd say it's easier overall too, but you're given the option for higher difficulty. The dungeons make for great level advancements, which turns your entire army into GODS.

BUY FIRE EMBLEM.

I already have FE:POR and Stubbs the Zombie paid off for next week. Shadow kinda came out of left field since I wasn't the biggest fan of ICO (though I did enjoy it). It has an intense OoT-level of atmosphere that I simpy cannot ignore.

Simple answer.

Path of Radiance is the BEST FUCKING FIRE EMBLEM since the SUPER FAMICOM games. It beats the EVERLOVING SHIT out of the GBA iterations.

BUY FIRE EMBLEM!

I want Genealogy of Holy War. :(

Nintendo really should do a GBA collection of those games. That'd be swell.

They should release the first GBA Fire Emblem here too, though it's doubtful that will ever happen.

I'm very pleased Nintendo finally decided to start localizing this series though. Better late then never.

Indeed. It really is great that they've started localizing them. Hopefully they'll get to localizing the older games, but it's highly doubtful. Using fan translations is no fun after having the games translated by NOA's brilliant localization team.
