I've often wondered about this with some people, trying to decode what exactly it all means. But anyway this thread will probably sink to the bottom along with the others.

Personally, mine comes from the shitty pop-rock Japanese band called Glay. Their first album is called Speed Pop and a friend shoved the album under me telling me to listen to it. It wasn't too bad but too manufactured for me so I buried it but kept the name cause it sounded cool.

Dujour

The character in the original Matrix that has a tattoo of a white rabbit that leads Neo into the real world.

I wanted it to be Litigation Jackson, the name of an action movie on Homestarrunner.com, but it wouldn't fit on aim, so I changed it to Manuel (prounced man-well, not manual) and kept it for GAF.

Cosmic Bus

I was flipping through an issue of Gamefan and came across their review for the original Bushido Blade. The name seemed kind of neat and unique; been using it ever since.

Malakhov

When Vladimir Malakhov used to play for the habs, he went throughout this insane sequence and I'd keep using this nick on mIRC and I kept using it since after a while everyone kept calling me Mala even though when I was using other nicks so it stuck since then heh.

I think I saw a picture of a catfish once and said "that's an awesome fish"

The completely asinine practice of randomization I engage in.

I decided on "The" + Something + "Bandit". I walked over to my book case, closed my eyes, and waved my hand around until it stopped. Opened up and my finger was pointing at "Take Out" a book of Takehito Ito Illustrations.

It nicely segued into an tale where I almost stole Robert J. Woodhead's Mountain Dew from his pick up truck at a con as well. Ms. Sea Manky talked me out of my criminal endeavors. :p

I've been using this retarded handle for five years now. Christ. . . =_=

Long story short : My big brother used to call me LittleBeru on chat when I wanted the comp. (Littleberu wants the comp, damn he's annoying.) And my last name is Bérubé. That's why.

Let's see...

It was 1996 when we first got the internet (ok, so we did occassionally use the $9.99 an hour Prodigy in 1992 or 1993, but very very very rarely). I was eight at the time, and thought "Hey, why don't I look at some video game websites?"

I think my first website was gamespot, found through a search engine. Although it didn't have anything to actually DO there, so I typed www.nintendo.com .

I noticed it had a huge community there, called N-Sider. So I signed up. But what to make my username????

Since I was, uh, about 8 and a half at the time, I had no creativity. I tried the name "GameGuy," but that was taken. So I decided to remove the e and add an i between the a and m, making "GaimGuy." Some 6 months later, someone (I think it was actually my brother) used my username to somehow get me banned (I don't remember how, exactly).
So I added an 'e' to the end of "Gaim" to make the name "GaimeGuy." which I've used in basically all of my accounts ever on the internet. And the name has stuck with me ever since. (I'm too lazy to use multiple handles or to change the name)
....

So I've had the internet alias of "GaimGuy/GaimeGuy" for over half of my lifetime. :lol

There was a TV Show on the WB nearly 10 years ago called The Wayans Bros. They had a character on there that was a white guy living in harlem with 'em, and he was always talking like a black guy in the show "aw hell yeaz, boyeeee".

Well, when I was younger I lived up in a rural part of michigan. I had a couple black friends (I only mention race so that I don't get flamed as being racist or anything) from Pontiac who I used to ball with. When I told them that I was moving, they wanted to know where to. Instead of having to describe the exact location to a million people of a small city in metro detroit, I just told them "down closer to detroit." they took it and ran with it, like "AW SHIT! He's gonna join a gang, come back and ball with us and be packin heat and shit! wearin his colors and shit tryin' ta ball with us..." and just kept going on and on and on. well after that everyone up there called me White Mike, cuz they said I'd be just like the guy on that WB show.

And alas, it stuck. White Mike. Even though my real name is Dan... haha... people are always asking and assuming that my name is Mike, but they dont get it was just a nickname based on that character.

It's based on my real name.
I'd been studying Japanese and I came to work after a Japanese class and told my friends how you write my name in Japanese (RAMU). Then one of them put on a classic Japanese impersonation and said "Jonny Ram memory superstore". He did this a lot and I kind of liked it, so the nickname stuck.

Got it from when I worked in a comic shop. The manager gave it to me and I'm still using it 17 years later...

"You know the Oompa-loompas from Charlie And The Chocolate Factory? When two of them cross-breed, you get a Gazunta", I was told.

I found out a decade later it's Yiddish for "huge". :)

I started a halfling druid named Carnivore on the first day in EQ and got sick and decided to move his gear to another character. Since I only had small patchwork, I had to go with a small character and I didn't want to be a halfling so I picked a dwarf warrior. Sid Meier has always been one of my heroes gaming-wise and Meier had sort of a dwarvish sound to it to me, so I chose that. Been using it as my online name since (so about 6 years now).
