I go to Wal mart because its convienient and the prices are the cheapest. Other people I know refuse to go to Wal Mart for some reason they wont disclose. If you go to a regional chain be sure to say where you live!

Meijer, in Michigan. It's the closest major place and has everything I could want for good prices.

Vons (California) for a lot of the necessary foods like cereal, chips, soda, meat and breads.
Henry's Market Place (an alternative grocery store with a "healthier" selection) for veggies except bananas cause Vons has better ones!
Costco for sandwich bread, canned foods and crackers (along with other stuff).

walmart? for groceries?

It has begun

walmart has very low prices on groceries. That's all I shop at walmart for.

I don't give a hell whether I'm supporting the super chain of death or just a normal national chain. Plus, it's tolerable here because it's a college town and you don't run into as many of the...let's say typical...walmart customers. I went to the new walmart back home over the winter break, and I just about thought I was going to end up committing homocide or suicide after being in there for more than three minutes.

Loblaws... they just moved it though and the original location was turned into a SuperC. I hate that store and all who go to it. I drive carefully past there... I always feel like they're going to try to throw themselves in front of my van.

I have a lot of store selection here in Toledo, OH so it basically comes down to who has the better deals.

Luckily, Wal-Mart is too far for me, so I choose between Meijer's or Kroger's. Or those cheap-o stores like Aldi's, Save-A-Lot, etc.

Kroger here also. A super Wal-Mart opened close by recently, but between the large crowds and the lack of some items that I like, the savings of a few pennies wasn't worth it to me.

The Real Canadian Superstore. :)

Seriously, that's the name. But it's great.

And is it just me or are supermarkets getting a little... too encompassing. A new Superstore was just built on the other side of the city and it has a full gym and daycare inside. Is this the norm everywhere else?

Wal-Mart. 5 minutes away by car, 10 minutes by bicycle.
How do you carry al the groceries back on a bycicle? :lol
Maybe you ride the bike when you just a couple of items.

Ralphs, Trader Joe's, Albertsons, Bristol Farms -- whatever is closer and has the thing I'm looking for.

Fuck Wal-Mart to fucking hell, by the way.

The place 2 minutes walk away. I don't know the name, it doesn't seem to have a sign.

In the UK, Asda. It's closest, though I've shopped in the others and I still prefer it. Tesco is good though.

Oh and :lol @ Tesco being more expensive than Sainsburys. Unless things ahve change d a lot in the 6 months I've been away, then no way.

Usually Trader Joe's or Whole Foods Market (formerly Bread and Circus) with a quick stop at Stop and Shop for basic staples like coffee and sugar.

Wal-mart, until they built a meijers about 4 years ago. I like Kroger's atomsphere the best but it seems their prices have gone up compared to meijers.

Maybe things have changed, by me anyway. The Tesco is indeed more expensive for most of the things we buy. It's a smaller one though, so maybe that explains it.

I'm in South Kensington, London, BTW.

South Kennny? Fucking hell, then you can afford to buy groceries at Harrods! :lol

Oh, maybe things are different in London. I know everything is more expensive there, but I don't know to what degree.

Around where I live (north west), Sainsbury's would be considered the most expensive of the main supermarkets. In fact, I've heard people called posh for shopping there (by stupid people, sure).

simply due to the fact that they've got self-checkout lanes.

You like those things? They never work for me.

I usually shop at Bristol Farms. The food costs more, but it really does taste better.

South Ken is really nice. Unfortunately I'm a poor student dealing with a shit exhange rate in a posh area. Sticking to my self-imposed 60 pound a week budget is really difficult :(

Hell, if it's cheaper in the northwest, I'll ride the damn tube out there!

Tescos is the Walmart of the UK at the moment. Record profits. Whilst Sainsburys have had big losses.

Well what do you expect when you get a cunt like Jamie Oliver to advertise your wares?

And besides, Sainsburys MUST DIE A HORRIBLE DEATH for introducing the barbacue infused scotch egg for only 2 months last year, getting me hooked on them AND THEN PHASING THEM OUT TO NON-EXISTANCE! Fucking bitches!!!

Yeah but think of all the post totty debutantes and horsey riding set girls you get to fuck though! :p

I'll have to arrange a Gaming Age / PSP showdown meet over summer for all UK GAFfers...I never knew there was so many of us. :lol

I'm lucky to have a marketplace on my doorstep. I can go out with £2 and come back with 3 big bagsful of produce. For anything else than fruit & veg and meat, I go to Sainsburys. I only go to ASDA for the smartprice basics. Tesco really shoot themselves in the foot with their online price checker. 9 times out of 10 they're beaten on price, even at Sainsburys!

You ain't kidding. I actually saw a kid riding a horse down the sidewalk. He also seemed to have this pony with him that no one was riding. A FUCKING SPARE PONY.

London and the UK have been great so far. I'm only here until May though. I'll definitely miss it here. I hope to come back.
