Where do you buy your groceries?

As much as I fucking hate Wal-Mart, I often go there for groceries. For all their evils, their prices can't be beat. I sometimes go to Hannaford's too (not sure how nationwide that chain is)

Local grocery store--has distribution from IGA, but is fully run and owned locally. Not exactly a franchise, per se, but damn close.

Thanks...I needed that

it's true though, I save roughly $50 everytime I do a full round of grocery shopping. I go to Sam's Club too. Only problem with Sam's is that you better have a deep freeze to store your half of a cow.

I go to meijer when I need to pick up something quick or after work (michigan)

I go to Meijer in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The stores are generally much nicer than Wal-Mart, and Target just doesn't have the selection. Meijer's rotisserie chicken is awesome, too. Eating one right now :)

Usually Sobeys.

Once in a while I'll go to Superstore, Safeway, Wal-Mart or Family Foods.

Also, I thought Tops was going under? Or is that just in the Akron area, where the supermarket scene is oversaturated? :P

I usually hit Hannaford's after one of my midnight shifts at work; their prices are basically the same as the other big 24-hour markets, but it's less busy, thus I end up less annoyed.

I'll pick up some necessities at Wal-Mart if I'm in there, but I'd never do all my grocery shopping there. You couldn't pay me to eat the "fresh" (i.e. not in a box or can) foods like meat or produce.

You like those things? They never work for me.

I've noticed that some of the self-checkout units that certain stores put in really suck, and some are really good. For instance, the ones at Home Depot are absolutely horrible, as they rely on a scale to determine that what you purchased ends up in a bag. The problem is that the scales never work right, and don't register really light items. We were going to paint a room one weekend and were picking up some plastic tray liners, and those little disposable sponge brushes, all of which are really light. No matter what we tried, we couldn't get the stupid thing to realize that we had put them in the bagging area. The self-checkout units I've seen at a few K-Marts have the exact same problem.

The ones at the SuperFresh near us (as well as a Giant Food in the area) both work really well. Instead of using a scale, you scan your item and put it on a conveyor belt. There's this thing on the belt which, as far as I can tell, looks at the general shape of the item or something like that and if there's no problems, then it just goes right through to the bagging area.

Of course, it's always a bit of a gamble using those things when there's a line, as you never know if the people in front of you will be able to figure out how to use the thing or not.

HEB in Austin, Texas. Sometimes Albertsons...but only when I want to beat the crowds.

This thread answers the very question I've always pondered about gaffers. Now I am complete.

Walmart. So much cheaper than stores like Kroger. Tho, I'm annoyed that the Frecheta Supreme sauce stuffed pizza is now $5. Used to be $4 (Kroger is like f*cking $8).

Kroger has these damn intrusive cards you have to use to buy stuff that's in the ad (ie, what Kroger wants you to buy this week). And the advertising is deceptive. One time they had some frozen pizza for sale, and it looked like a good deal. Turned out it was the small version of it, but you couldn't tell from the ad because they have something like "SAVE" over the spot where the size was listed, and it was blown up next to regular size pizzas to make it look like the large version. Those fucking bastards.

Everyone complains that Walmart is evil...Not once have they done anything to me to merit that. They offer low prices without any bullshit. Just don't try going to Walmart at like 5 o'clock, because you're just asking for a long wait if you do.

However, poor little stores, like Kroger, like you deceive customers with tricky ads and force them to use these damn intrusive cards to buy stuff, probably just for marketing but still. SO INNOCENT. :rolleyes

Walmart Super Center didnt put all the other grocery stores out of buisness but HEB did in my home town. Store brand food is better than name brand 90% of the time and MUCH cheaper.

SaveEasy (Nova Scotia)

Basically a smaller version of Real Atlantic SuperStore (Same as Real Canadian Superstore, really)

I go there because it's the only grocery store in Wolfville (University Town, pretty well). The other, Foodland, closed down.
