Which series is more cheesy: MGS or Resident Evil?

does "Jill sandwich" make anyone else think of Jill getting double penetrated?
i watch too much pron i guess

LOL...actually someone messed with the audio files from the game and actually did that. Anyone remember Resident Jigalo?

People who answered MGS in this thread hate MGS too much for their own good.

Naaah you see, I don't hate MGS. I equally like MGS and RE, but I'm just trying to be objective as to which game is cheesier. Not trying to go fanboy mode here defending one game or the other.

The series is pure camp, and it knows it.

lol

Of course MGS is more cheesey, and it acknowledges it in the CODEC sequences.

Being a badass is cheesy these days?

I was actually trying to compliment MGS by calling it camp, which was in response to people saying it takes itself too seriously. It's very difficult to be campy and not simply come off as shit. The MGS series isn't short on exaggerations and theatrics, when it comes to both characters and storyline (among other things), but it's all done in a very self-aware fashion (which is crucial) and to ultimate positive effect. It's what helps set the series apart and give it a unique feel.

MGS is definitely cheesier because it takes itself more seriously than RE does. Also because Kojima is a hack storyteller, yet he loads his games down with about twice the story of your average RE game, so just by volume alone you get more cheese.

thats a nice sumation, quantity over quality... of cheese :lol

mgs story is bad exponentially, depending on how seriously you try and take the story

... resident is cheezy king though

i can't really talk though cause i havent played the next gen versions of either

Can we throw Devil May Cry into this mix? Because I think that would win. Otherwise, MGS.

It's done with purpose in DMC. RE is trying to be more serious. While there's "cheese" moments in MGS series, those instances are dwarfed by the more "serious" points. Not to mention the vast more depth in MGS games. I didn't play RE5 yet though, so this is coming from RE1 to 4 with the off bits in between.

Resident Evil. I mean, it's clear from the thought that goes into telling the mgs stories to the thought that goes into the RE stories. RE has a lot of background plot and such but it still comes off as a more b-movie attempt.

Since when did MGS take itself seriously? Was it the diarrhea soldier, the ketchup blood, peeing pants, the nude flipping, the girl posters, the codec calls about the girl posters, list goes on. Where is that youtube with all of the funny codec calls in MGS3. Serious? What?

It was the 2 hour cutscene with impassioned and poorly written whining by Naomi, along with tons of military gibberish rants about PMCs and genetics and blahblahblahblahblahblahblah

I'll tackle the question this way:
What's harder to watch or listen to on a regular basis?

MGS by a motherfucking landslide. For all its general beauty in its cinematics, my eyes hurt from the constant eye rolling during an MGS game. And if it's not that, it's a constant glazing over of my eyes and a regular and impatient foot tapping while the game constantly reiterates the same shit over and over again...for way too fucking long...while I wait to play again.

No matter how cheesy you think RE and MGS are they are still alot better than almost every movie made this past decade (Matrix sequels, Pirates movies, Star Wars prequels, etc.) Talk about balls to the walls cartoon stupidity.

For those of you who keep reciting quotes from the first game you do know that Capcom realized the dialogue was horrible and TOTALLY redid it in REmake. You can't say REmake is cheese that game is more serous than a heart attack and every RE game should be modeled after its awsomeness.

The problem that MGS "suffers" from in terms of cheesiness is that there are some people who are incapable of handling the mere concept that a game is BOTH cheesy and serious at the same time. It blows their minds so much that they attack the game purely for that reason.

MGS, but I find the story a lot more interesting then RE.

MGS holds my attention the same way amazing films do. That being said I don't like to compare them. I compare MGS more to a book or a long TV show.

"You would've fit nicely into a sandwhich."

Well, it's not as cheesy.

I feel the same. I was pained every time there was a cut-scene in MGS4. It's fine that Kojima wanted to do something that's serious and have some cheesy side-notes, but seriously the PMC/nano-machines is so horribly presented with horrible writing etc. If someone was watching me play MGS4 I'd feel as uncomfortable as if I was trying to get them to watch some tentacle rape porn.

RE 4 sucked and didn't have much to do with the main RE storyline. It was more like a goofy sidequest/spinoff.

They're both cheesy as hell, but I felt that Metal Gear Solid's cheese worked for it more than Resident Evil's cheese did, if that makes any sense.

MGS is pretty silly at times but...
RE has genetic engineering, zombies, Lord of the Rings, Jaws, midgets,........

RE by a landslide.

I never played a MGS until MGS4 and I thought the story was extremely extremely boring. So much useless jargon. Half the dialog is made up jargon. Maybe if I had played the others it would have been better. But I hated the story.

On the other hand, anyone can get into the RE story. An evil pharmaceutical corporation makes bad stuff that turns people into zombies, ganados or whatever you want to call them. The bad guys have this goofy over the top personality which is perfect for a video game. I enjoyed the story.

It's funny though, it's not really "jargon" to fans but "lore". Alot of it has been built up since the first MGS, like la-li-lu-le-lo, so they make alot of intimate sense to MGS fans.

MGS probably takes itself a little too seriously for it's own good, but at least it's interesting and makes you think a little.

RE is just stupid. Love the games but the "story" has always been laughable.
