Hey Drinky someone wants to have "a word" with you:

Bow down and pay homage to the ONLY reason for owning a GameCube.

Seriously though, no Xbox here. Simply because I have no money. I already have the games I want for it too. (JSRF, Panzer Orta, Gunvalkyrie and I need to get Ninja Gaiden: Black I guess over Ninja Gaiden.) Hasn't been huge on the priority list though.
I forgot about FE. That is a great game. God, I hope Twilight Princess doesn't suck; the fucking Gamecube mocked me for buying it by providing the world's shittiest console game lineup.

Bought a DC, followed by PS2, GC then finally XBOX - which is now the only console I still play. PS2 was gathering dust a long time ago.

Oo, forgot about Fire Emblem.

I can't say anything about the GC version, but Fire Emblem is the best strategy rpg I have ever played (yes better than FFT on PSX).

Still, the GC version is still an unknown at this point. I am worried that they will add too many graphics and effects and it will slow down the gameplay and make it less fun.

I'm a console gamer, and have never followed the PC gamer mentality.

I do know that among console games, the best version is almost invariably on the Xbox. And when you're looking at a PC game, the non-Xbox console versions are just mutilated.

But still, there are plenty of non-PC Xbox exclusive games worth playing. But honestly, games are games, and if we're going to slice lineups into little pieces there's really no room for objectivity.

My perspective is about fairness to fans of all platforms.

Currently, my Gamecube is The World's Most Expensive Gameboy.

Hahaha, that's why I bought my Gamecube.

..so shouldn't you also be frustrated about those listing the Gamecube and PS2 in this thread? But for some reason aren't?

I would have LOVED to have skipped out on the DS, but Konami just HAD to go and make a kickass new 2D Castlevania.

My cock will be the stylus that seals all deadly foes to hell and back.

PSP at a stretch, but that's because I haven't seen any compelling content so far. I am disappointed about the GC not really getting any good games in the past year or so other than RE4, but it had some goodies.

You sound like you're surprised. I'm pretty sure one of the main reasons XBOX is way behind the PS2 in sales is because NOT AS MANY PEOPLE BOUGHT IT. Jesus, deal with it. :P

I didn't skip out on any system but I have sold 2 PS2s, 2 Gamecubes, and an Xbox over the last 3 - 4 years (I don't own any consoles right now - I'm playing PC games while waiting for the Xbox 360).

why does it frustrate you? Do you have some vested interest in microsoft?

Get some help.

No, seriously...

GET SOME HELP!

Yes, he does. Someone from Team Xbox gave him a free Xbox because he's POOR POOR, and then he recently won a free XBX360. Basically because he's poor and because of these ACTS OF KINDNESS, he has to defend all Microsoft consoles. It's his blood contract for the free swag.

Skipped the XBOX.

Had/have a PS2 so all the third party games were taken care of.
Got a Cube for the Nintendo games.
And I'm not into FPS's so I skipped the XBOX as those were the majority of the exclusives.

I skipped out on the DS

However, I all but skipped out on the Xbox. Sold it 6 months after receiving it for an Xmas present and finishing Halo, JSRF and KotOR; those were the games I needed to play.

My Gamecube gets no playtime now that I live alone.

I bought all three and narrowed it down to my PS2 and Xbox and sold my gamecube on Ebay. I skipped out on the PSP because I don't find it a very practical handheld. I'm still contemplating DS.

Gitaroo Man:

I don't think you did what I asked-- which was to ask yourself why you wanted to defend any system. What does it matter?

The thread is about people talking about what they *don't* like, so defending a system is like trying to tell somebody they're wrong for what they like/don't like (even if they say it in a factually incorrect way like "there are no good games on the system") . And that's just going to lead to flames.

Anyway, *that's* why I repeated myself. The last thing we need is another system flamewar and raft of bannings.

I've owned them all but I've hated Xbox and Game Cube. Yet still bought them twice. When I bought them, I'd buy them for one or two games. They would be good and then I'd hate the machine. For GC first time around, it was originally Metroid Prime. Second time it was only for the GB player (until I realized how shitty the GB sound is). The first time I got an Xbox was just for Halo so I could see what the rage was. Second time wasn't for games. I just wanted the HD pack so I can watch DVDs with Optical Sound, something on the PS2. I did enjoy Samurai Warriors for it though.

I did own several PS2s. One broke down. Another one was ready to break down, one was because I was stupid and had a Tyler Durden moment.

Never again. I've learned my lesson hard this gen with the money wasted on consoles.

My advice is never get a system just for one or two games. Even if they are really, really good. You'll kick yourself in the ass later when you realized you've paid hundreds of dollars for just a game or two. Probably the main reason why I'm sticking only to PS3 for the next generation.

Saturn >>> Dreamcast
PlayStation >>> PlayStation 2
Nintendo 64 >>> GameCube

...but thankfully...

Game Boy Advance >>>>>> Game Boy Color

Why? Look at it this way: Microsoft is the newcomer this gen. If they hadn't gotten into the market, what would we have missed? In the way of games--NOTHING. Every single Xbox game would have been either a PS2 game, or a PC game (or both). Or, in Rare's case, a Gamecube game. The Xbox stole a little territory from each to carve its niche.

Although we wouldn't have Xbox Live...is that good or bad? Nice service, isn't free...

x-box

it has very few "exclusive" games I'd get. DOA3, JSRF, Panzer Dragoon, Ninja Gaiden and I think that's it.

on the other hand, I've bought a PSP and PSTwo this year, which help me in this "polg embraces gaming" year. Plus caught up with cube games plus plenty of portable goodness.

I owned a refurbished Xbox, but all those Xombies and Xealots made me hate that console.
I sold it, and now I can't even play some games I worked on.

Halo is overated, Halo 2 was a boring turd(runing around a floating structure forever just to catch some dude made me Hate the game)

I imported a gamecube back in Sept of 01, my second ever import console. By January, it was given to a friend as a birthday present.

I bought an american console in april of 2003 and traded it in for an xbox later that year. Nintendo software no longer interests me.

Who posts on a hardcore gaming forum like this and yet skipped on a PS2 this gen?! That's akin to skipping out on the PSone or the SNES; there are at least 20 or so titles that have hit the PS2 that I would deem 'must-play' by any self respecting gamer. Boggles the mind I say, boggles the mind.

I bought a PS2, GC, DS and PSP on their respective launch days, and finally plunked down for an Xbox in 2003 (around KOTOR's release). The PS2 and PSP completely dominate my playtime right now (PS2: too many to mention, and PSP: Lumines, HSG:OT, Wipeout and MG:A), and while I rarely play my GC, my wife and daughter do, and I've had a great time with the 5-7 or so games I've put a lot of time into on it (Prime, WW, AC, SW:RL, SMS, umm, others).

I'm not playing my DS nearly as much as I used to anymore, as the whole stylus/touchscreen/dual-screen gimmick is starting to wane on me. I don't know if it's the lack of games that really utilize it well (not just innovatively, but well) or my disenchantment with the concept, but I have a feeling unless something huge comes along I may grow tired of the system within the next couple of months. The only game I own is Meteos, and the rental periods I've had with the other titles has been more than enough (I feel as though 2-3 days is all I need to experience all there is to these games; AW: DS excluded).

The Xbox on the other hand, I really regret purchasing, and it is quite possibly the worst gaming purchase I've made since the Saturn (on launch day). Live isn't worth the money to me, FPS' are one of my least liked genres, and pretty much every exclusive on the system (besides Otogi) has underwhelmed. Otogi and a couple of PC titles my comp can't handle (Syberia II, KOTOR, etc.) are the only reason I've kept the damned thing, but I think I'll be getting rid of it in the next month or so.

Well, the "hardcore gamers" I know tended to prefer PC Engine, Saturn or NeoGeo to the mainstream shovelware on Famicoms or PlayStations. :P

...but this gen the ps2 has the "mainstream shovelware" and nearly all the niche games worth mentioning. xbox is a hinterland of tom clancy and all gamecube games have mario in them. there is no alternative.

anyway, i intended to stick with ps2 (and poor dead dreamcast) this gen. but then i decided to buy one of the other two consoles, and mario sunshine swung it in gamecube's favor. then i had to buy an xbox to wash away the foul aftertaste of mario sunshine. ultimately i'm glad i went with all three -- i love halo and ninja gaiden, and even gamecube had its monkey balls and pikmins.

I skipped out on Xbox, even though I probably like Microsoft a bit more than Sony.

I just don't like western game design. Or first person shooters. And I don't care to go 'online' with my gaming.

I would have skipped out on PS2, but there's just too many great exclusive games to not have one.

Confession time:

I've skipped all consoles since Dreamcast.

At first I was waiting to see which one Sega would support then when things turned out fairly even I just didn't bother picking any up, instead trying to finish the many games I had already. I still don't plan to get any consoles until I finish studying but now the games are cheap I am picking them up while I still can first hand. I'll probably pick an Xbox, Revolution and PS3 - X360 games aren't much pull and no complete backward compatibility means it's not getting a purchase.

I've 'quit' gaming several times. I 'quit' right after the Saturn died, and I 'quit' right after the Dreamcast died. But the problem is, I just love the old style of gaming just too much to stop entirely. I swore off ever buying another Nintendo system after the N64 debacle, but I caved in on a whim and picked up a GC shortly after launch.

I guess I don't regret that decision, I did get a lot of fun games out of it. Still, my official stance on 'next generation' is that I won't be buying anything.

Undoubtebly, there will be 1 or 2 games that I just 'have to have' and I'll cave in once again. And that's the way it is.

I skipped the PS2 and went 100% Xbox fan up until a few months ago.
Whenever MGS3 released, I looked at my Xbox collection and realized I only had a couple of exclusives. I realized that all of the games I wanted to play were on the PS2! I sold off my Xbox library and converted BACK to Sony. I saw back to them because I was a huge PSX fanboy back in the day.
I currently do not own a Gamecube but I bought my first one for Wind Waker, dissapointed sold it all off and repurchased one for RE4. Since RE4 is coming for the PS2 I sold off my GC stuff as well.

PS3 for the future! (as long as Oblivion comes out for it I won't have to buy a 360, crosses fingers)

It's also funny how some people will buy (or claim to buy) a console because they think it gives weight to their opinion of "it sucks".

Inevitable in this thread.
