which system did you skip out on this gen and why?

After the Dreamcast died, I skipped this entire gen. I transferred to a university in 2001 and didn't want the distractions. I also bought a really shitty graphics card for my computer to keep me from playing most PC games =)

Recently a friend gave me his Gamecube, and I will probably buy a PS2 at the next price drop. Not really interested in Xbox though.

Xbox and Gamecube. Gamecube didn't have enough support, and Xbox got off to a slow start. Late in it's life I believe it became a better console than PS2, but by then it was too late to get one with X360 coming. I almost bought one a few times still though (mainly for Ninja Gaiden).

The xbox.

I already own a GC/PS2/GBAsp. There was no need for an xbox, Nintendo for all my first party stuff, PS2 for my 3 party stuff and GBAsp for 2D ;p

None. Because I'm a consumer whore. And how.

Amen. Although the xbox has become a media hub thinger, because frankly, there is shit on the system I want to play.
Starting to regret the PSP purchase, but the GBASP->DS upgrade only worked because it plays GBA games. Castlevania best rock my world.

I got all 3, but I can obviously tell the GC has gotten the least playtime. I played a large amount of Zelda, Tales of Symphonia, and Metriod Prime, but little else.

I played a HUGE amount oftime with PS2 game, but lately, Xbox has taken up a large chunk of the last year, mainly with the Madden/NCAA leagues going on.

Got 360 on reserve, and I will get a PS3. Undecided on Revolution.

Oh, and I did get a DC on launch. Lots of time put on Skies of Arcadia, PSO and the 2 Shenmue's.

Um...N-Gage?

Got them all. Played the Cube the most (Smash Bros and Monkey Ball alone guaranteed that), the PS2 a hell of a lot, and the Xbox not so much. GBA did okay, but the DS is (surprisingly) doing much better for playtime. The PSP was damn near stillborn, but it's looking up a bit now.

seXbox, because as attractive as the thing is, I could not afford to support three new consoles when it first released, and by the time I started having a hankering to get one I felt like I should just wait for the post-360 price drop and mod myself a fifty-dollar used Xbox.

I have them all, but if I could do it all over again I would definately pass on the Gamecube. To be honest, other than RE4, there just weren't any good games (not into Nintendo's stuff, never have been) that I liked. I kind of bought it for my daughter, but she just never plays it. I found out later she wanted a PS2. I assumingly thought a young girl would like Nintendo better. I was wrong. But this Gamecube has to be the most unplayed console in history. I won't be making this mistake again in the next-gen though... Nintendo has just gone off into weirdville.

xbox-

I didnt realize third parties would be so good this generation. If i intended on getting as many multiplat games as i did i definitely would have considered xbox. However, i dont feel like ive really missed out on anything by not playing many of its exclusives.

well i have played kotor and halo, but the number one game i feel ive missed out on was splinter cell and i already stated multiplat games were better on xbox.

Got em all.

GC only gets playtime with big first party releases; Xbox only gets playtime from multi-platform 'better than PS2' fodder and semi-rare exclusives. PS2 titles dominate my shelfspace.

I plan to liquidate them all in the next-gen.

Nearly didn't get an Xbox because it didn't have enough exclusives to warrant getting one. I did however end up getting one eventually to mod for Xbox Media Player, which I think is worth getting an Xbox for itself. Later I got Ninja Gaiden, so the Xbox puchase was doubly worthwhile.

I bought a Gamecube from my friend when he left for Japan because we had been playing Super Smash Brothers and Monkey Ball all year and I really enjoyed it. I tried WindWaker, Metroid Prime and Mario Sunshine and disliked all 3. I don't regret the purchase, because I got to play Resident Evil 4 early but I probably didn't have to get this one. Zelda on the other hand may vindicate this purchase.

I had an Xbox for a year. I just couldn't get into the games. I ended up modding it and playing emulators on it. Eventually, that novelty wore off and I trade it in for a PSTwo because my PS2 broke.

I had all three consoles at one point but I don't have an Xbox.

The thing about owning a PS2 and Xbox is that a lot of the same games get released on both, but usually the Xbox version is better in most cases - so it's nice to be able to get the better version of said game. Where the PS2 beats out the Xbox is clearly extra 3rd party software support and a few of it's exclusives.

I just couldn't deal with the load times anymore on the PS2. It was driving me insane. I guess I am just very impatient. The dual shock is crap IMO compared to the Type-S controller as well. I sure hope Sony does something better this next gen.

Still using my launch PS2. It still works, except for the occasional DVD movie (Disc Read Error)

Hope for it to last until PS3. I'm on my 3rd Xbox.

I didn't skip out on any, except for the obvious Ngage and Gizmondo.

The only one of my systems that is really collecting dust is my Xbox. Of course, NG Black turned this around but compared to my Gamecube and PS2, it hasn't gotten that much play time recently.

i skipped the PS2 and Xbox because I didn't have enough money or time for three consoles. Nintendo offers the games I want more so than what's on the other consoles, so that's why the Gamecube was my choice this generation.

Next gen will probably be PS3 and Rev. Money shouldn't be a problem and hopefully time wont be either.

It's interesting to note how many people don't own certain consoles...but still contribute in threads about games on certain consoles.

I am holding out for the PS3. Maybe then I can buy the other 2 Sly games I never got to play and GoW. Oh, and the oh so coveted MGS3 too ;)

Sly Cooper was one of the best platformers I ever played.

:D

A PS2, it didn't have much in the way of exclusives that interested me and I absolutely detest the Dual Shock. In hindsight I should have gotten a PS2 over a gamecube, gamecube was just... ugh.

FFT (fixed for truth)

Sure thing! Pray tell, as personally I play mostly Japanese style RPGs and puzzle games, where is the swell of awesomeness on the XBox? Oh yes that's right! Maybe if I mod it.

Basically there are absolutely no good exclusive content on xbox with the exception of Ninja Gaiden, and that alone isn't enough to consider purchasing a box.

You don't have to like the Xbox but that's a bit harsh.

What about stuff like (off the top of my head)

Halo series
Panzer Dragoon Orta
Forza
Metal Slug 3
MotoGP series
Oddworld
Project Gotham series
Shenmue II
Crimson Skies

You may not personally like this stuff, but there is certainly plenty of good exclusive content on the Xbox other than Ninja Gaiden.

Well if you count Dreamcast, I skipped that one. I do have a Cube/PS2/Xbox however. At my place the Cube does get the most playtime because I do have friends! (although I haven't touched my cube for over 3 months now, I lost interest in consoles somehow). I only use my PS2 for Singstar and the Xbox has been collecting dust since DOA Xtreme Beach volleyball.

Xbox because I didn't even have enough time for my PS2, GC, and GBA so I felt it would have been a waste of money to buy another console when I couldn't play all the good games on the ones I already owned.

I did play some Halo and Madden on the Xbox with my friends. Halo was a good game, but I also got assraped when I played against them because they played it 24/7 so that took a lot of the enjoyment out of it.

I don't know how the hell some of you can get all of those games on all three systems. Games are just so fucking long these days I have problems finding the time to finish most of them.

Completely skipped: Gamecube, GBA

Essentially skipped: XBox (had it for ~9 months w/Halo, Ghost Recon, Morrowind & KOTOR) Only played KOTOR heavily. With limited time, just couldn't play it over the PS2 , so I traded it in.

Xbox

Only a handful of titles appeal to me and I know I wouldn't have used Live. I did always want to play PDO though.

I thought I could skip the Xbox this gen but one week after the launch, I woke up and said to my gf:"Let's go buy a Xbox".

No worries, I had lots of cash back then.

Now got a house and a car (so less $$$) and my gf fears that I wake up and say:"I want a 360" :lol

Ugh. The Controller S is even worse than the original Xbox controller. At least all the buttons on the Dual Shock are accessible, even if the analog sticks aren't so hot (and one's in the wrong position). The designer that decided having buttons on the bottom of the Controller S like that needs to be shot. Thankfully they fixed that for the X360--that controller looks pretty much perfect (so maybe they did shoot that guy).

BTW, I agree about load times. Short load times should be a top priority.

I am in a gaming lull right now. I sold my PS2 and XBox as well as a bunch of games.

I had to because the wife would not allow me to get a X360 otherwise. Been upgrading the HT system also.

Still got the PSP and I do some gaming on the PC though I have not done much lately.

Kind of good in a way.

My batteries will be on full charge when the X360 comes out. :D

Xbox.

I owned it but eventually traded it to a friend for a ton of Magic cards.

Surprisingly, the GBA (and now DS) is the system received the most of my playing time, with the GC and PS2 following it.

I find that I read more about games than I play them. I'm only mildly excited for next generation - with almost zero interest in the 360.

same.

Xbox, simply from its lack of rpgs and non-FPS/action games. Until 360 gets a boatload of RPGS and a classic feel for its adventure games, same thing is going to happen. Sports titles like Madden? Shooters(exception Halo 3)? Not interested.

I got 'em all. Including portables.

PS2 in the end, ended up gathering more dust than the Cube. I always got the Xbox version of multiplatform titles (for obvious reasons) and every timed I thought about losing the cube, something popped up - Animal Crossing, Wind Waker, then RE4. And then a component cable.

XBOX...I always wanted to play some games...games that I even had purchased like in the JSRF case...But never went for one.
I guess the entire lineup didn't say anything to me...

Skipped PS2. Why? I have no clue, there just wasn't ever a killer deal or a killer app for me. I love Nintendo games and a lot of other stuff I got on Xbox, and that 2 game bundle deal with Jet Set Radio Future won me over.
