Who do you prefer, Nas or Jay Z?

(Copying that Biggie/Pac thread from last week)
I'm expecting the majority of the replies to be Nas or not many replies at all because this is a tired subject, but I might as well ask, personally I'm taking Jay every day.
His cleverness, varied flow, and hit making ability, leads to him making songs and albums I'm much more interested in listening to.
I'm mainly interested in Nas when he steps out of his box and spits rhymes out of his usual formula,so like on BBC,and a large portion of his Untitled album.
But otherwise he just seems to be a storytelling multi machine which doesn't interest me as much, which isn't to say he isn't an amazing poet.

Honestly, Hov. Illmatic is a top 10 all-time album but Reasonable Doubt, Blueprint, American Gangster, Black Album, & Blueprint 2 are all in the top 40 for me.

Jay-Z has more songs I enjoy, Nas released a classic in Illmatic but the rest of his discography is hit or miss with alot of weak beats.

Really tough choice. illmatic is probably my favorite rap album ever, but Jay-z is probably more consistent in terms of albums. There are a ton of individual Nas songs after illmatic I love though. (keep in mind I haven't heard every album from either).

the other thread was at least fair..

don't mean to shit on jay z but it's nas and I don't think there's a logical argument otherwise aside from "I just like him better ::shrugs::"

Nas, easily. Jay-Z isn't even on my radar, and never was. Never liked his flow or style, even since I heard him on Original Flavor's shit way back.

Edit: Biggie also shits on Jay as well. Another one that's not even close.

JayZ is the most mediocre rapper out there. It's never bad, but it's never great either.

Nas when he hits, it's fucking classics.

I grew up listening to Jay Z and Nas side by side, but I can't imagine ever choosing the former over the latter. They both made up a huge part of my musical tastes in my teenage years, though. I wouldn't want to lose either one.

Nas, though i'm not a big fan of Illmatic for some reason. i honestly don't know a single good Jay Z track, he's just boring and/or annoying to me.

can't wait to hear new Nas, Life is Good was very good back in 2012.

LOL @ Jay Z being mediocre or trash

Ya'll can't keep blaspheming towards Hov like that.

Jay Z has produced much more high quality music and has had unquestionably the better career.

Nas is a better rapper.

A much more reasonable assesment, although I think Jay-Z is a much more versatile rapper which has played a big part in his longevity.

It's really hard for me to say. I think Jay has more classic albums (Reasonable Doubt, Blueprint, Black Album) but nothing better than Illmatic.

My argument would be that Jay is much more skilled than Nas in metaphors, punchlines, and entendres.
Nas stretched his skill in that regard the most on Untitled imo, which is why I enjoy it more than every non Illmatic project from him.
I have never knowingly heard either of them.

That said, I vastly prefer Nas. Jay Z is hot garbage.
So you're incapable of giving an educated answer?

Hmm.

Depends on my mood?

Reasonable Doubt, The Black Album, Vol 2...oh yes.

Illmatic, Stillamatic, It Was Written, Streets Disciple...even the Damian Marley collab...oh yes.

Really just depends on my mood.

Glad you mentioned Vol.2.
So many people dismiss it, but honestly it's an incredibly fun album for me to listen to, I play it through all the time.
Classic hits, and underrated cuts such as It's Like That and Ride or Die.
