Honestly, I see sites for this pop up all the time, and with the exception of my shuffle, I've never skinned any electronics. Who here has used decals on their console? Why?

That makes me swell with pride. I skinned my gamecube with an Resident Evil 4 skin. I mainly did it as I got it as free swag at Digital Life, and I thought it was a shame to go to waste. I wouldn't pay to do it, but I don't think it's any odder than paying for a different colored system.

I wouldn't mind skinning my DS, that bitch is so scratched up and faded it looks like a dollorama gaget.

I skin my consoles/portables because the default black/purple/white is boring as hell. The only console I've skinned was the Xbox, skinned it with a red-esque sticker. I started skinning with the GBA as a means to make it look unique and to also protect it from scratches. For the SP they managed to make some heavy duty skins and improved on the print quality. It's moved on to the DS with the same quality and durability. Of course every skin site is different but for the most part they all share the same quality top of the line skins.

I wouldn't say that skinning a portable is important but it is wise considering how prone it is to scratches.
