Who played the Village demo and what are your thoughts?

I just cleared the village demo and as a resident evil freak my opinions are absolutely biased.

Fps camera was neauseating
No attachment to my character.
Graphics looked last gen (played on PS5).
No T-virus.
No zombies.
Nice environment art but nothing we haven't seen before.

Your thoughts?

Looked very good, not my type of game however. Don't know if it's me growing older but fuck these games are too tensed for me now, I need to chill and relax while I game.

I'm also a huge RE fan, but this as 'visual demo' (in Capcom's words) was a disappointment. If you told me it was a PS4 game running on a PS5, I'd believe it.

I'm still there Day One, and am hopeful that the game will deliver solid gameplay (which this demo doesn't even try to). I was expecting a significant step up from RE7's visuals on the next gen hardware, but it's not there.

Looks like Resident Evil 7.5 , with some new stuff added here and there, and improved graphics (compared to RE 7 Biohazard).
Nothing more, nothing less.

My thoughts are that Capcom is on another downward spiral.
They're just milking the RE7 play book. And we know their strategy too.

RE4's influence lasted 3 mainline games, RE7's influence should last the same. Only then will they think about spending money being original again.

I just don't get it, Capcom had nailed the RE formula for the new generation while retaining its identity with RE2REMAKE, they went a little off track with RE3REMAKE.
They even said that with RE2REMAKE they found the way forward for the series
And then you have this, and it doesn't even have VR??
it's gonna be worth a play, but WTF Capcom

Graphically I think it's fine, RE3REMAKE was a looker too.
But is this their strategy for RE now?
Make a game with different horror themes for Ethan

I cant say I was impressed. The camera made me feel sick as well. The graphics were fine but nothing special, as I demo it was super underwhelming. Was the appearance of the woman in black supposed to be a jump scare, she kind of slowly walked up a staircase in my play through as I went to replace the eye in the statue..and yeah the big chested woman with wolvereen claws was cool I guess?

Fantastic 3D audio. Graphics seem to be as if PS4 was the lead platform here. No limbs, which makes picking up stuff look incredibly stupid.

For a visual demo this falls short. Otherwise, as fan of RE VII, this will likely be more of that.

Ugh! RE7's fp view & wobbling camera was the worst for me. Can only play 40 mins at a time, then get sick (first thing I did for Maiden demo was to put the wobbling at off, but I know that's like putting a band aid on Ethan's chopped hand and consider everything's just fine).

If you guys get sick playing this demo, I expect to cave in in 20 mins this time around 🤮 God damn...

Guess I'll know for sure tonight

Loved the visual aesthetics of the demo, a really great use of ambient occlusion with the lighting, the way light bounced off the walls inside the dungeon and the luxurious castle interior itself really wowed me.

The atmosphere was spot on, RE games always make the most of their atmospheres and really make you feel like you're always just a hair away from your worst fears.

Must say the actual texture work is pretty shoddy, you can tell this is a cross-gen affair and I was hoping for more oomph in certain areas, but I can live without this seeing as the pricing isn't exorbitant. Hoping the actual retail game has some settings that will make the game pop more on PS5 but I'm not hopeful there.

The worst aspect of the demo was the FOV, genuinely made me queasy as everything was so zoomed in and up close, hoping we get a slider in the actual game.

The ambiance, visuals and sound design combine to build a sense of tension. Visually, given that they're yet to polish the game, I'm really impressed.

"Actual gameplay" running on my console gives me a confidence in the end result.

Very smart also to make the demo a ps5 exclusive i am sure this will boost ps5 sales even further 🧠

Graphics are crazy good, every part of the level feels different thants to the lighting. Only negative I had was actually encountering the vampire lady, she's not very scary. Wish they were more subtle when it comes to enemies in these games.

There must be a VR mode. Capcom went on record with RE7 saying it outperformed their expectations. No way RE7 would have had the legs it did if not for VR (and a Playstation VR exclusive I believe).

GIVE ME FULL DYNAMIC SHADOWS IN MY FUCKING HORROR FPS GAME WITH FLASHLIGHT!!!

And bumb some textures/assets quality. Game does not look much next-gen'ish but aesthetic is great. It will be fine but I expected more from 'visual tech demo pushing ps5 to it's limits'.

Just watched and loved.

Better than REVII demo.
Resembles even more Resident Evil original.
Color, lighting, details are fucking amazing.... impressed by visuals.

Hyped.

They mailed the formula with REVII that is their best selling RE games without rereleases....

It is near to beat the best selling even counting the rereleases.

It is weird to see some guys guessing REVII was a flop lol

REmake 3 was a failure.

I thought RE8 would be different but then i saw this. I don't like these RE games with first person camera view. It's like playing in first person camera mode on RDR2, GTA or MGS. There is option to turn it on or off on those games but i played them in third person view. First person view doesn't fit to their identities imo. Same goes for this franchise. I hope they make it optional in future releases.

Not a great tech demo. I expected more details in the tiny areas you navigate through. Fortnite manages to show you an entire island at 60fps with 100 people playing.

I would prefer it in third person but I liked what I played. It's beautiful, a bit scary and atmospheric. I will buy it day one.

Thought it was a great teaser, nice little gift for PS5 users eager to see some content for the console. Graphics start PS4-like, but become next-gen when you enter the castle cellar and main rooms. I think it's the best looking game on PS5 next to Cyberpunk 2077 (I know it's more a PS4, but considering 60 fps + higher resolution). Played it on LG OLED.

I guess RE fans will always complain if it's not exactly like what they've played one billion times before, but I'm glad they opted for first person again (more immersive and better gunplay) and brought back the RE4 scenery of village + castle (and the merchant).

They didn't nail it, they was on the right track
The whole backend of the game was terrible
And the game hit the below 20 quid mark by Christmas the same year.
It was a bargain and had great VR reception
Also note RE2 has achieved almost the same in smaller time frame.

For real. Pretty soon horror experiences will give me PTS for life for how real and scary some of this shit is nowadays. It's just not fun for me.

This was a tech showcase. I enjoyed the ambience and location. The camera bobbing when moving was annoying. The fact that doors open by themselves when you're close to them is going to be a gameplay nightmare. I dont want to accidentally open a door when I dont need to.

I'm sure with addition of gun gameplay the game will be more enjoyable.

Also they said we will get another demo with actual gameplay in jt. So I'll wait for it. Again people trouncing on the graphics. Its cross gen. What did you expect. For the first two years into the next gen console life cycle we will be seeing this. It's happened every time

The commitment to true darkness is very aggressive in SDR, so I have a feeling people who found the graphics underwhelming have no HDR or a low contrast HDR TV.

Can anyone really disappointed please post your TV/monitor model so we can rule that out? I think if your panel produces grey blacks this game will look REALLY washed out and you'll lose all depth in the image.

I'm not trying to shame your screen or make you feel bad I just want to know why some people are saying "PS4 graphics" when others are saying its a amazing + has best HDR so far in games.

I actually like that it's an FPS now. I think RE needed a change like that.
Otherwise graphics were not mind blowing to me - some of it was good but then some of it looked pretty basic.
Gameplay I'm assuming is just very different from what we'll get but not my thing there.

I don't see how can anyone say it's "pushing ps5 to its limits" but it sets the tone just fine.
Its apparently 4k/60. PS5 would struggle to run some last gen games at 4k/60,
As for the demo, i liked what i saw, but its 20mins long and isnt really part of the actual game, so you cant really judge it either way.

KS9000. Its not the HDR i find lacking, just the texture work and framerate isn't stable either.

Expected to be spooked, walked away feeling indifferent. Probably wouldnt end up playing the full game either way since horror games arent my thing. Visually it looked fine, some nice details here and there and beautiful lighting, but the Framerate was quite messy at some points.

Isn't this game on the PS4? How's it going to push to it's limits lol?

Also, not my type of RE (FPS) so I will ignore...

I played it and deleted it, it wasn't terrible but I just hate RE in first person, also this wasn't an actual game demo but more of a tour. I've never been a fan of horror games where you have no way of defending yourself and that's how this tour is set up. I wish the real game offered 3rd person, I know it won't but this just isn't going to be my kind of game I don't think. I do wish we had gotten to go outside but they can't give everything away.

Why on earth were you expecting to see the t-virus? Within the canon of the series, that hasn't been around for like 20 years.

Based on the trailers, we know that this village has some connection to Umbrella (the logo is everywhere), while it absolutely is not vital for a RE game to have traditional t-virus zombies, zombies are in the game.

I was thoroughly unimpressed to be honest. Felt like Resident Evil 7 Season Pass DLC. I'll buy it and enjoy it but nothing that screams full price day 1.

In a perfect world we'd get more action RE with lots of the series characters aka RE4-6.

I actually like the whole vampires and werewolves thing. And with the eastern Europe style village, it actually reminds me a lot of the Van Helsing movie lol (dont know if thats a good thing but i kind of like it).
Vampires and werewolves are much more interesting to me than the poo monsters from Resi Evil 7, and angry villagers, and all that shit.
