Who remembers when the narrative surrounding "Tales of" games was that we wouldn't get many more?

Finally giving Arise the attention it deserves, it was a casualty of being hooked to Destiny for 10 years that I finally broke free from but that's another story for another day, but I have been playing Tales of games since the ps1 days, however it really became the staple in my life when Symphonia landed on gamecube.

But I remember in IGN and VN boards, just in my travels how people always said oh well they're good but we aren't going to see many more, it was the constant narrative and I kept saying but we simply continue to get them. Every release it seemed it was always doomed. I remember always having to say but we got another, and another... And it just felt going on over the 2000s that Tales was just not a big enough series to last and here we are.

That's going back 20 years now and it's incredible how it's such a staple series now and has always been.

But I am loving Arise, they really landed something special here. The gameplay is tight, the graphics are so clean vibrant and crisp,I love the style they went with even tho I love the more classic Tales type games like Grace's F which the remaster is going to be a fun ride as well.

But basically just wanted to give a nod to the series and how long it's been around, and looking forward to more Tales games as the years go by. 👍

exactly, here we are lmao. Tales of Arise was a Tales game almost only in name (literally started off not as a Tales game, and it shows) and we haven't heard anything of substance still since then. We have no idea where the series is heading. If it continues to go into the Arise direction (which I guess it will since Arise did good in sales) then I'm not exactly excited for the future of it.

It's great that you enjoyed Arise and I don't wanna hate on it or say it's bad or anything of the likes. But it is a major departure from the previous games, and not in a even remotely good way.

The last good Tales Game (Berseria) was released NINE years ago. Here, we are.

Yea I'm about 12 hours in and it's a departure I agree but it still feels like tales to me, that could change tho. I have graces f remastered waiting as well, but I also have to Revist ones like Berseria, I only dabbled because it was in my destiny addiction so it's one that is on my menu.

The older Tales games I fully played and love. Symphonia, abyss, basically all tales prior to 2014 I played and loved.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.

I can play arise, but the music is out from nowhere and too western. Makes me sleepy and bored and felr not playing true tales or even took something i hate from western rpg : music. But the gameplay still cool tho.

My last best tales still vesperia. Though my favorite still eternia and destiny. Havent finish arise as well. The music is annoying me so much. Oh well ...

Arise was one of the most boring and linear jRPGs I’ve even played. I’ve seen free to play games with more interesting characters.

I say that's a stretch but to each their own. But the thread is more of a nod to the IP being around for multiple decades when it was always suggested to die off.

I keep associating “tales of” with telltales.

I thought op was talking about games like TWD and Tales from the borderlands.

I liked the battle loop in Arise, but agree the characters/some of the story wasn't up to par with what I expected from a Tales game. I guess we have to settle for remakes of the old games for the next decade or so whenever those come out.

Tales of is my favorite series.
I don't consider Arise part of it. It wants to be a Tales of but it doesn't understand the identity of the series. I am extremelly concerned for the future specially now that Inomata is gone. I don't think they'll be able to recapture the series charm and combat quality.

It has pretty enviroments though. And the remaster may help us hold over until they find a producer that truely knows and love the series.

I still think Zestiria has the best setting and the biggest potential. They really should remake it. Now it has a chance to not get fucked just because Hideo Baba wants to fuck a seiyū.
