Whose thinking of switching? PS->XB

I actually bought an Xbox One this gen.
I played a grand total of 6 games on it. Quantum Break, Dead Rising 3 & 4, Halo MCC (which they refused to refund me despite being broken garbage at launch), Rare Replay, and PSO2.
Almost all of those games are now available on PC.

So yeah, I'm probably never buying an Xbox again.

Sounds to me like you need to jump in with a Series X and then when you can afford it grab a digital PS5 since you have a large digital library in that ecosystem :) Having both is always best. And nintendo if you still like mario and zelda games haha

No switching here. But that's because it's not 'one or the other' for me. If I want one, I get it; if I want the other, I get it, too. But, if I did have to choose, I'd probably still stick with PS.

I'm on the fence too. I like both systems a bunch and honestly think I'll be fine regardless of the direction I take.

The two biggest issues for me are superior way ms has handled BC, and the Bethesda acquisition.

Currently leaning PS5, but if Microsoft shows us Halo Infinite multiplayer that looks dope AF, I'll switch.

24 studios is too hard to ignore.

MS has 23 studios now and Game Pass which will have games from all of those studios on day 1 without the $70 price tag that Sony exclusives will have. I know most if not all Sony fanboys own rigs with 2080ti's or better, but most of us don't. It's crazy, I know.
Well, when any of those 23 studios makes a game that is:
1) Good
2) Exclusive to at least Windows

Like, I'm getting a PS5 at launch. What am I missing in the next two years? Pray tell.
"Maybe Bethesda makes something and MS doesn't release it everywhere" is guesswork, and not worth $500 right now.

I considered it but when I compared the games the xbox series x or whatever is severely lacking in any next gen titles and will be for quite some time.

PS5 games I'm hyped for at launch or near launch:
Demons Souls, Miles Morales, Ratchet and Clank

Xbox games I'm hyped for at launch or near launch:
The Medium, That HR Giger looking alien game.

the ps5 games are gonna be better than these two A-AA game so the decision is easy for me. I'll get a sexbox in a year or two once the exclusives start releasing.

All new games from 3rd party could be £ 70. I fail to see your point exactly ?

Third party set their own prices.

Well let me elaborate for you, kind sir.

I'm talking about the arrogance of Sony charging £70 for their own games, not 3rd party ones.

No 3rd party games are £70 outside of Godfall. AC, Watchdogs and Fifa are £50 or just under, even COD from greedyass Activision is only £60.

I think this generation transition will be interesting because this is the one where you actually have to consider the ecosystem you've invested money in. I know PS5 doesn't go all the way back to the PS1 for backwards compatibility but it will play PS4 games and Microsoft's box will also play current generation games. So, people will have to weigh their choices, similar to the iOS vs Android ecosystem. It's going to be interesting.

COD isn't $60 for next gen (when buying new.) If you have a problem with game pricing, then it shouldn't be a Sony issue or their arrogance issue. You're welcome to think if you want to but game prices are going up unfortunately across the board. The only reason Microsoft stands out is due to GamePass and that's a relatively new way of serving games and if proves to be successful don't think Sony won't follow. They likely will.

I'm talking about here in the UK, not the US. The RRP for COD is £60, the RRP for Demon's Souls and Destruction Allstars is £70. Yes, prices in the industry are going up and that's an industry-wide trend. I'm not angry about that in itself, a £10 hike is expected (£50 is the most you'll pay for a retail game currently).

Sony and Gearbox are the only ones presently who are trying to make it a £20 hike so yes, I will blame Sony and their arrogance. If they're charging £10/20 more than other publishers then it's not merely a case of keeping up with market trends.

Obviously this is unique to the UK and Europe but let's say Sony had put their prices up to $80 and all other publishers were charging $70 or less, you wouldn't be annoyed?

I'll continue with my gaming laptop and Switch, and will migrate from PS4 to PS5 as my main gaming platform.

Main reasons: I prefer Sony's exclusives, I prefer to be able to play huge amount of PS4 games I have with improvements, I also like to start the generation with new games that take advantage of the next gen stuff, and I can play the MS games on my laptop using Gamepass, so I don't have any reason to buy an Xbox.

Regarding the game prices, I expect them to be the same in PS and Xbox, as always. Many companies until now only shown prices for cross-gen games, so didn't increase the price. I think that most of them once they start to make next-gen only games, specially if are single player focused non-GaaS games, will be more expensive as we saw in a few Sony and 2K games. If MS didn't do it it's because they don't have any next gen only AAA 1st party game for the launch window. Once they start releasing them in maybe a couple of years, I expect them to use a similar pricing than Sony and the other publishers.

If I didn't have a pc, I would be getting an Xbox this gen. Playstation 5's sales pitch right now feels like weak sauce. Then again, I'm not all that interested in their first party stuff. I can't think of a single Playstation exclusive that I fell in love with outside of Bloodborne.

Has Sony said anything about games running or looking better on PS5? Like all they have to say is Naughty Dog will be releasing a 4K/60 patch for all their games, heck even give me Killzone & Horizon Zero Dawn 4k/60 patches and I'd happily jump in the bandwagon but we're getting NADA just aye they'll run....

Not gonna lie the whole Playstation recording your chats controversy and Xbox's backwards compatibility are gonna make me jump ship.

Admittedly I didn't spend a ton of time researching prices in the UK, but the quick research that I did confirms that prices will be going up across the board in the UK too and not just Sony published games. We're in a weird phase right now because we're transitioning to a new generation, similar to how it happened back then from $49.99 to $59.99; even back then, not every game published was automatically increased to $59.99, some games did cost $49.99. Regardless, you can't count on the inconsistency of pricing right now as a way to say they're not going up based on select few examples.

Said it once and will say it again have never owned a Xbox console and never will they have nothing that interests me and as much as I love the industry I hate Microsoft as a company and will never give them any of my money .

No switching. Will eventually get both again, but im disappointed with both launch lineups tbh. Powerful hardware and not much to show it off with.

I honestly don't see how Microsoft has "done everything right" like at all, but in any case more info makes decisions easier. You seem to have already decided to wait, get more info, then make a better decision. Just go with that.

Also, it would take a deluded fanboy to deny that Xbox has a bigger GPU, since that's a fact. However, in terms of overall hardware and level of experience, I still have no idea which will generally come out on top.

I'm on the fence.

I've still got a ps3 and a 360, and now a ps4 and switch.

Pro for xbox would be: huge back catalogue of great old games.
Pro for ps would be: huge list of ps+ games.

I'll just wait and see.

Buy both if you can afford it. PS5, as with PS4 once the One X came out is just for exclusives for me. Xbox 'ecosystem' (hate that word) becomes more compelling by the week, once they add in the results of their studio acquisitions it's going to be irresistable. My library is massive after three generations of Xbox and will only continue to grow - having everything playable in one place is amazing, and being able to cheaply build up my collection from past gens is amazing. Just like PC.

May as well get Series X now and wait until there are a few worthwhile exclusives on the PS5 IMO (which is not at launch). Still though, best option if it's an option for you is to get both.

My pc is hooked to my Tv, remote m/kb and controller.I couch play pc games. No hassle.
I have this cheap and very practical Recliner gaming PC setup in front of my TV that is 10x more comfortable than any chair/desk I've ever sat at. Have never played anything at my desk since I got it.

It's literally a laminated 6mm thick, 100cm X 30cm plank of wood that cost me $10. To go with it I have a wireless mouse with practically zero lag, and a wired/wireless 60% mechanical keyboard. I absolutely love this setup.

I always think with things like this that anyone who is buying at launch probably has a good bit of spare cash so they can afford both and a good selection of the respective launch games and maybe even a spare controller for one of them, and anyone who will wait can wait for either to get price slashed/revised

So really cant someone just get both?

Can you share a picture of your recliner.

PC, PS5, and Switch for me. I still don't see a point in getting an XSX if all games can be played on PC.
I was a hard Nintendo fan until the Wii then got bored of playing the same formula and the same franchises.I fell out of love for them, and the switch doesn't appeal me one bit(maybe one day when metroid4, bayo 3 or nmh 3 hit)

I'm on a very expensive couch that I got from my deceased grandma, I sometimes play lied down, with my pc connected to 2 Tvs (1 for gaming,1 for simultaneous multimedia or for my girlfriend). It's great.

Sure why not. This is the "setup" (I have a blanket over it because it's my favorite chair from 15 years ago and so no longer in the best of shapes underneath):

This is how it would look like looking at the TV (I haven't dusted the top in a while, but in my defense I live in a desert area and dust accumulates super fast):

When I'm just using the controller, I use this mouse on the side table to navigate the interface:

This is how it would look like on a new and bigger recliner (I actually bought this to replace my old recliner, but turns out the old one is more comfortable).

The plank of wood is super light so it's very mobile, and very thin so it wouldn't dig into your wrist area when you rest your arm. When I'm done playing I just lift the whole thing like a dinner tray and put it to the side.

I hope this was useful to you or anyone else.

No intentions on getting either at launch. I could afford it, I just see no value in either. If I was forced to pick I'd probably choose X juts because it's the strongest hardware between the two. That said, I intend on getting both like I have with all consoles since I've become an adult, but I'll wait till they can offer me more than 1 or 2 games. My PC is more than capable and will be even more so when I can get a 3080. I found the One X to be a great compliment to my PC. Love the exclusives on my PS4Pro even if they ALL run at the dogshit framerate of 30fps. And I'll always be a Nintendo stan. They were my first and will always have a special place in my heart. Plus, Luigi's Mansion 3 and BotW are still a blast to play.

I'll get all, just not at launch as there's really no reason to.

No, I don't see any reason whatsoever.

I don't cheap out on games, I just buy those I like and when or if in budget I just wait a month or two, and sony just has the better games and there is no argument about that.

As in gamepass... Humble bundle is the only game subscription I need as I actually redeem the games and not being tied in a subscription.

While I still had both I did end up going from 90% of purchases being on the PS4 to 90% of my purchases being on the Xbox one x. It was just a better mid gen leap then the pro was. Since I mostly played 3rd party games it just worked out that way. After spider man went nearly a year without booting up my PS4 pro at all.

I am.
In my opinion neither console really have anything impressive at launch and the customers that are going to benefit most are actually those that switch.

If you go from PS to Xbox you get access to all of those enhanced games from last gen via Game Pass. Forza Horizon 4, Ori 1 & 2, Sea of Thieves, Gears 5 etc.
That's a lot of 'new' content for a very cheap price and they are mostly enhanced versions of those games as well.

Likewise if you were a Xbox gamer last gen and you switch to PS Sony are offering PlayStation Plus Collection which gives you access to 18 games of extremely high quality, many of them exclusives.

The customers that are swapping are definitely getting the best deal. I owned both this gen but primarily gamed on PlayStation so I'm definitely looking forward to picking up a Series X when they are back in stock so that I can play through that backlog of Game Pass exclusives.

I will buy both.

I keep reading "the more powerful hardware", when people write about Series X.. Now, I've done my homework and both machines have each their strengths. The X have Better GPU and RAM (maybe CPU - only time will tell). PS5 have far better SSD and I/O.
The X can show better graphics than PS5 (in theory). The PS5 can do stuff X can't (in theory).

No, I have a powerful PC, see no reason to own an XBOX. Having that said I think it'll be a good console with attractive service(gamepass), but completely unnecessary to some. Sony's new pricing policy sucks and annoys the hell out of me, but... their AAA single player exclusives have significant impact on why I still game. I hope they will move away from the whole "this game is available only on this hardware" eventually because the concept is very outdated in 2020 and won't be competitive in the future.

Thought about i because all of the positive news and Microsoft's push for gamepass and bc. Then looked at the games sony pushed out for ps4 vs the games Microsoft pushed out for xbox one... It's a no brainer that I will buy a ps5. Demon's souls and miles are reason enough for the first couple of months. After that let's see if ms can bring some quality games and I might buy a series x besides my ps5. But maybe I'll just get a 5700xt instead...

I probably won't but I am considering it. Sony's decision to start letting people easily record others is just so big brother I'm not sure I want to associate with them any longer. And I don't even use voice chat 98% of the time unless I'm playing with actual real life people I know.

I never switched but will certainly focus more on Xbox titles this gen.

Really helps that they made a product and a subscription that really entices me.

Hats off to Xbox.

As a PC gamer and even if I was only a Nintendo/Sony fanboi - I fail to see how MS is offering anything worthwhile right now?
There are no exclusive games shown yet that would come even close to what Sony is offering right from the start.

Those gamepass titles are all games that have already been released too.
Can you show me anything that will come to gamepass until March 2021 that comes close to Spiderman, Demon Souls or Ratchet and Clank?
Knowing you don't have to spend $70 to game is all the initiative needed to switch. Not paying that much. Xbox saves the consumer more money.

Even the ram is kind of a mixed bag. You got 10GB that have 25% higher bandwidth, and 6GB where the PS5 has 33% higher bandwidth (Im assuming 3-4GB out of that will be usable by games). Plus I'm not sure how much complexity having it split like that adds.

I'm with you. I still don't know which one will provide a better overall experience over the course of the generation, especially when games get to the point where they are really being built exclusively for the new hardware.
