You have to be joking me. Yes, anyone who hates on Cam Newton for showboating must be racist.. WTF?
From a more sane perspective, my guess is people have a problem with Cam obviously for showboating but also for excessive showboating and the media want's to pile on to get clicks.
For example, he runs for 8+ yards and get's a first down only to celebrate it like that's some sort of amazing feat. In that same week Tom Brady & Peyton Manning ran for 10 yards for first downs.
Personally I like Cam and his celebrations but sometimes you just want him to act like he's been there before.
Yep, this is me.
I was a big Panthers & Newton fan, with Ron Rivera being one of my favorite coaches in the NFL. But because they've put together a great season and are dominant, the incessant showboating by the entire team (something you don't notice when they're 7-9 in the worst division in the NFL) and led by their superstar world-eater media-darling QB makes me root against them.
I'll be rooting for them on Sunday but it's one of the first times I've rooted for Carolina since week 6 or 7 this season.
I like Newton for his ability, just like how I like Watt and Rodgers for their ability. But I dislike Watt for his stupid dancing, how obsessed he is with himself, the entirety of this season's Hard Knocks which should have been renamed the "Rehearsed as fuck JJ Watt Hour." I hated the stupid Rodger's belt thing. And I dislike Newton for excessively celebrating every small accomplishment in life. I dislike the Panthers for taking team photos in the middle of a game.
But, if they were 7-9 Panthers in arguably the worst division in NFL history as they were in 2014, then you just wouldn't see it so much and it wouldn't grate on you. Because they're potentially one of the best teams in NFL history, they're media darlings, and the NFL is desperate to highlight showmanship and sell players, you see them on every highlight reel, on every clip, on every commercial break, on every advertisement, etc. And you end up resenting those great players.
To people who say stupid stuff like "Oh, let them celebrate! They're making the game fun!" I don't want to
take away celebrating from somebody. Yes, let them celebrate, and then let other people criticize them for celebrating.
Tom Brady never cheated, as long as we're talking about deflategate.
Brady, Belichick, and the Patriots have been completely exonerated of any wrong doing, but don't take my word for it, take the New York Times article from just last wee "
True Scandal of Deflategate Lies in the N.F.L.’s Behavior."
