Why do people hate Cam Newton?

I really don't get it. The dude is awesome, amazing at what he does, and is extremely entertaining to watch.

I can see how people would be mad at Cam when he first started ripping down opposing team flags, but they should know better by now. If they get their flag ripped down they are stupid or like the attention.

Close it up GAF. Verdict is in! Youre a racist if you dont like Cam...got nothing to do with him scoring 30 points in the first half against your team all with a goofy smile on his face!

I hate the Seahawks

Look people, I think the world at large is racist as hell. I have no argument there. And the truth about Cam is probably somewhere in between with race playing a factor for some and not for others. I just don't think race is the primary motivating factor for the Cam hate. Plenty other black quarterbacks show joy and don't get any hate.

And just because someone dislikes him, or what he does, doesn't make them racist.

What other black quarterbacks show joy?

Is Derrick Rose a QB?

oh..

Success breeds haters. The fact that Cam revels so much in that success so consistently doesn't do him any favors I'm sure.

Personally, I think the dude's a hell of a QB and I enjoy the energy his showmanship brings. The only thing I don't like about him is how willing he is to take a hit, but then again his risk taking is incredibly fun to watch.

I don't like Kap, but that's because I've always thought he was crazy overrated.

LSU and Saints fan here. So yeah, fuck Cam Newton and the Panthers. While I'm at it, fuck Russell Wilson and the Seahawks.

Why? Because Cam is a demoralizing force in my football life. First being awesome and running the gambit in the SEC and now being awesome and looking to dominate our division for some time going forward while we watch the Saints organization waste one of the greatest quarterbacks of this generations twilight. And Wilson because he and his team have flat out embarrassed us in the playoffs. I doubted his ability to transition to the focal point of that team but to my major mistake the guy looks like he is going to pull it off.

I'm supposed to hate the Falcons but really the Panthers and the Seahawks are the bar I measure our team by right now and right now we are failing miserably.

So yeah, congrats and all, but I hate you Cam Newton.

Weird. I thought public opinion was actually changing for the better on Cam since the Auburn scandal. Giving balls to kids and and having fun and being a positive role model apparently doesn't matter judging by this thread. Damn.

How is he a turd?

he's passionate about his profession

what a turd amirite?

Pitchforks down boys. I think the way he carries on is a bit over the top sometimes and I'd say the exact same thing about Philip Rivers or JJ Watt.

We can argue until the end of time about where the line between "passionate" and "excessive" is but that's not really the point of this thread now is it?

The point is that for a large number of people, the position of that line is different for black players.

Is this a straw man thing? Does Cam receive an inordinate amount of hate compared to other QBs?

No, imo. Some people are just especially sensitive about criticism towards black qbs and assume racism, like op mentioned. There was good reason to feel that way for a while, but I don't think that's the case in the NFL today. Plenty of good black qbs that start, and not just because they've got amazing arms or are good scramblers: see Russell Wilson and Teddy Bridgewater. Those guys are are starting QBs because they're good decision makers who can run an offense from the pocket (and still use their feet with discretion). I think the hate Cam is getting is just the normal resentment any successful player with a national ad campaign gets, and the flashiness amplifies that.

People hate him too

The 7 Storm tweet to Houston didnt help him look like less of a dick.

I didnt like Newton when he was at Auburn and expected him to be a failure in the NFL, but his first season he won me over, the big games in his rookie year against Arizona and Green Bay showed to me he could make it.

I dont have a huge issue with his attitude but he does come off as a dick at times like when he ripped down the Packers fans flag this season. He is cocky and arrogant but is good enough to back it up. I dont dislike him but personalty does work against him.

Its just more in the spotlight because of them winning, he was getting shit last season for doing the Superman stuff after TD's when down last year IIRC and had some in the media wanting him to stop making it all about him.

Spygate is a bit more serious, but how serious we'll never know! Now that is some shady fucking dealings.

I mean we should dislike the Pats on principle, being Bills fans.

Doesn't mean that the racial motivations for people hating Cam aren't there.

I am sure people hate on him for being a cocky black qb who clowns on everyone he beats.

Same way people hated Richard Sherman

I like Cam and hope he continues to piss haters off while handing footballs to the kids. Hope he gets the W on Sunday.

Edit: Sherman's RKO kind of made up for his Crabtree diss.

I should decide how all athletes should celebrate. Hate Cams style just as much as I hate someone hitting a buzzer beater and throwing on that angry at the world face. Gronk spike is the only acceptable middle ground.

don't get it twisted - Aaron is a smug piece of shit, but he does it on the down low

and obviously people care because you point it out every Sunday!

besides, wouldn't you be smiling if you were at the only place in the world where you could hide from your hellspawn girlfriend?

:jnc

I have come to terms with the smiling Rodgers. I'm talking about the rest of the country!

I don't hate him but he annoys the fuck out of me/makes me cringe.

However, his stupid antics are on the field and off the field he never seems to get in any trouble.

He does his job, does it well and more power to him.

Unapologetically, it's majorily because he's black. I'd say a small percentage is due to other team loyalites like rivals who obviously are going to hate the other team that may not vibe with the panthers.

But overall, imo, it's because he's black and for a lot of people, he isn't their type of black. He isn't white washed. He isn't acting like how some feel black people should act like. He doesn't follow the shity NFL rules and is willing to pay fines to give footballs away. People hates that he dances on their favorite teams when they are getting blown out and would rather hurl racial slurs because they have nothing, or pen unnecessary letters because he's just being him..etc etc etc...

The list goes on. As I said before, there can be legitamte reasons such as disliking him because he obviously doesn't play for your fave...but anything outside that is going to take some digging and some real explanation (imo) on why anyone could have strong feelings on someone who has done nothing particularly wrong in his career as a NFL football icon - that he is today.

It's racism, pure and simple. I still want Peyton Manning to win the Super bowl, though. People have an issue with Cam because he's black and everybody knows it.

We just need to face the facts that things aren't going to change anytime soon.

there are people that still support the Patriots... some people are just beyond saving :(

I'll be honest: I like them simply for the way they play.

It reminds me a lot of the way my HS team used to play. That tough, never let up the knife style has endeared me to them. Got the opposite team down 2 touchdowns? So fucking what, they could easily come back with 6 mins left, keep fucking scoring.

I live in a state without a team, so while some might say I bandwagon I really care more about how the team plays in the NFL more than anything else. Like back in the day I used to really like the Ravens because of how they played on the defensive side of the ball, but now I just causally watch them vs the early 2000s where I tuned in every game.

I dunno, I guess I just like good football rather than liking a team, sue me *shrug*

If it weren't for DeMarcus Ware being on the Broncos, I'd be rooting for Cam to win next week. I love watching him play and really like how much fun he has with the game. His Play 60 commercial always cracks me up.

All the "Cause he's black" nonsense. If it's anything I could guess, it's that he can come across as a bit of a glory hound with some of his in game decisions. Then again, it's working for him so you can't really say he's been making bad decisions this year even if he's gone out of his way to make risky plays where he's the focal point.

Stars take risks. When they succeed, they get the glory, when they don't succeed, they get the criticism.

I love watching Cam play and the way he plays the game. Even though he's in the NFC, I somewhat root for him as long as it does not go against the Lions playoff interests. This year he led his team to 15-1 and has balled the fuck out.

That said, I still think he, and the Panthers, have a hell of a matchup against the Broncos D, and I think people are sleeping on the Broncos keeping the game close and potentially winning.

And yes, most of the hate towards him is racial and it's because he plays QB.

This shit though (which I personally love)?

camdabs_nxywlz.gif

Is disrespectful to any defensive player playing the game. I personally LOL'd, but as someone who's played defense if someone dances on our home turf like that, best believe you're making yourself a target.

There are celebrations and there are awesome, excessive celebrations like what Cam is doing.

Avery Williamson (#54) of the Titans had a right to be pissed off and Cam can/and will continue to do what he wants when he gets in the endzone.

The argument goes, "well if you don't like his dancing keep out of the endzone." Touché.

But how a individual defensive player decides to keep him out of the endzone the next series is up to that defensive player. And it may not be pretty.
Disrespectful to the defense? Defensive players do some of the most showboating. If they don't like the celebrations, don't let him score.

He isn't the first african american player with a big personality, this is nothing new. I could make a bulleted list of players since 1975 who did the same damn thing Newton is doing right now. Don't get me wrong, I hated his guts for celebrating first downs when he was 6-8-1 or whatever standing he was at last year, but the team has the best record in the league right now. I don't care what he does anymore, he earned it because no one can shut the panthers up, much like how no one could shut up my hawks the last two years. NFL stars are larger than life now, they have personas on the field now, not unlike professional wresting. You aren't seeing the big picture and where the game has been, and where its going if you are hanging your hat on the race factor.

I like him but it worries me that he plays with such disregard for his body. I know the going airborne thing is all part of his Superman persona but seriously one day he is going to land on his head and break his neck.

At QB? A position black players weren't even allowed to play for decades?? Never...stop it. You wasted typing all of that.

I've hated Cam since he took money at Auburn, and gave that shit-eating grin like he knew he wasn't gonna get caught. Anyway I'm still annoyed that he got away with it.

Has nothing to do with him being black. I think the NFL should encourage their players to be more emotive in general. I think the "infamous" Richard Sherman interview was one of my favorite NFL moments ever.

It's because he's black
Part this, and part the natural alignment of people hating the success of someone other than themselves or the parties they support.

Also, man some people are just fucking haters. Cam seems cool as fuck with a million dollar smile. That alone inspires jealousy and dismay. Many of those haters would be riding his dick if he was their quarterback, much like the Tom Brady and Russell Wilson haters.\

I've hated Cam since he took money at Auburn, probably raped a girl, and gave that shit-eating grin like he knew he wasn't gonna get caught. Anyway I'm still annoyed that he got away with it.

sure dude. the lies we tell ourselves to hate on someone more successful than ourselves.

keep on hatin.
