Why do people on this forum curse so FUCKING much?

Well you shouldnt really be borwsing at work anyway so your point is moot. Saying people are immature when you dont get the response you wanted is pretty dumb aswell as not realising that different people are offended by different things. Its people like you that are making everything in the world so politically correct.
I agree. Seriously. But there is nothing to do here but surf, and I 've been posting on GA for many many years. I guess it's an addiction.

i'm no prude, heck I even run a hip hop record label... Chill the heck out.
Maybe you can explain why you felt you had to use the word "heck" at all.

Also, has "heck" ever been used on GAF before?

edit: Apparently it has, but I just assumed everyone would skip over the mild euphenism to the more direct "hell" or "fuck-balls."

LOL, usually I woulda said hell or something worse, but then that woulda been hypocritical, now wouldn't it...? :lol

What's hypocritical is that you used such a modifier at all. There's no difference in your intention between saying "heck" and "hell," it's just that "heck"isn't going to offend anybody and makes you sound like a thirteens year-old boy talking to his parents.

Honestly, if you're so worried about cursing, don't even bother going on the Internet at work. Especially here... And if you got fired for curse words on a computer, there are bigger issues between your office and not GAF.

Well.......isn't that the whole point of cursing? To offend in some instances, or make what you're saying more forceful? Or, just for the hell of it, because you talk like that in your everyday life?

If you dig that, why'd you start this thread?

it's clearly the latter. Language restrictions on internet forums are retarded, anyway.

Edit: I'd also like to add I had to stop myself from using the words "fucking", "gay", "shit" and "ass" to type this.

Those exit polls stating that people voted based on "moral values" weren't so far off.

I guess that means that cursing, spitting on sidewalks, talking with your mouth full and not tipping your hat to ladies are going to be the hot-button topics of the next four years.

If our society didn't have the notion of a linguistic taboo, then this wouldn't be a problem in the first place. Seriously, ask yourself just WHAT makes "heck" ok and "hell" not ok. The answer is more along the lines that people believe that words like "shit" have some instrinsic magic that make them bad to say. I don't believe in such a thing, but the thing is, if I used them with every sentence, then they start to lose their effect.

Anyway, I don't give a damn if people say "ass" or "fuck", as long as they aren't attacking each other (needlessly)... in which case it's not really the words, isn't it.

Does that make it any more necesarry? Can't we have a conversation WITHOUT that word? Or is that simply not feasible? Oh, and a mod can PLEASE close this thread, I should have known what type of mature responces it would garner.

Ah, beat me to it. What is it about a syllable or combination of syllables that's so offensive? It's all just made up anyway!

The magical power of words has an intriguing history. Wasn't it believed that uttering the true name of God could undo creation?

Fuck is the most flexible word in the english language. You can almost create a whole sentence out of its variations. ie. "The fucking fuckers fucked."

Ah, beat me to it as well. The whole concept of "bad words" is so incredibly infantile. Words only really have meaning in the context in which they're used. If a word like "fuck" shouldn't be offensive irregardless of how it's used. For instance, if I were to say "Fuck your mother in her dirty asshole", you have every right feel angry. Now, if I say "Man, I'm so fucking glad it's Friday", what's the use in letting that offend you.

It's a ridiculous idea and we need to get past it. This is why I use as much profanity as possible when I'm around children. Just planting seeds...

I say fuck a lot because I lack basic conversational skills. Name names Jeffy, who gets on your nerves by swearing too much?

One of the great things about this forum is that people feel comfortable talking the way they want to. If we start cracking down on language saying you can't use vulger language some of us might not feel as comfortable saying what we want to say and thus the character of this forum would be diminished. If you honestly can't handle it go somewhere else.

One of my high school friends who followed me to law school seems to try swearing a lot lately. However, it seems really forced whenever he does it, as though he's trying out a word he's never used before, and is unsure of if the context is proper.

Dudes, i never said censor anything, or even crack down. I was just wondering why you guys felt the need to do it? If that's your thing so be it. I have no qualms, just asking a question because i see cussing that I would deem unecesarry in the most mundane of posts.

I usually don't really think if i'm swearing or not in a post, i just type. I use them to emphasize other words mostly.

Using swaerwords is just as 'uneccesary' as using the word mundane instead or boring.
I dont get what you trying to get at here, exactly.

Oh, I completely understand. On a related point, it used to bug me watching Harry Potter and seeing everyone go "you know who", I mean, just fucking say it... but then again, in a world where magic is a very real and powerful force.. then it's only natural for them to act that way.
