Mario Kart as a series is just lacking in features and game modes.
It doesn't need a story mode like Diddy Kong Racing, although I'd like one.. But almost every mario kart game has been as barebones as possible.
I'm not sure why, because Smash Bros I think is a great example of how much better options and modes and different things to do in a game that doesn't necessarily "need" it, makes it.
Mario Kart 8 didn't even have battle courses! I don't know what the deal is with the MK team.. But they seriously need to add more content and options in games in the future. I'd want a mode like in smash where you can play around with the games items, switch stuff on and off.. Have a vs. mode where its nothing but blue shells, or items turned off completely. I know you could kind of do this in tournaments and stuff online but it isn't nearly as well flushed out as it is in Smash. At least in terms of options and how you can control the variables to make races and games feel different, MK doesn't allow the player to do much at all to shake things up like Smash does
I just want more stuff to do. I loved Mario Kart 8 but I dropped it a while ago while I'm still going with smash. Despite it coming out over a year and a half ago, the replay value is just that much higher than MK.
