Has anyone even considered that this isn't going to be Elden Ring with mechs? This series always seemed like it was for a bit of a niche audience, and some of the games in it were downright awful. I never got into it myself because of the awkward controls and sleep inducing gameplay.

Idk, maybe I'm wrong or I'm just misinformed about it, but seems to me like everyone's getting hyped for all the wrong reasons, and we haven't even seen the actual gameplay yet. If it's gonna be anything like the previous installments in this series, then I can't wait to witness the collective reality check that everyone's going to experience come the release date.

People gave a fuck. The series is just a bit niche. Armored Core has been around since the PS1 in 1997. I played it on a PlayStation Underground demo disc in 1997. Everyone is getting hyped because we hadn't seen a game in the series since Armored Core V: Verdict Day, which came out 10 years ago. With the successes of From Software's titles of Elden Ring/Sekiro/Bloodborne/Dark Souls, people are ready to see what the series has to offer due to it's long absence.

I've been playing Armored Core since the ps1. I fell in love with mechas when I was 7 years old after watching Macross and Gundam.

I've been buying From Software games since the very beginning.

If the new AC is like the old ones, there will be so many complains from new FS fans.... Best case scenario for me is that it will be a traditional AC game with more polish and budget. However, if it's a new take, I will be fine with it.

EXACTLY. Their bread and butter will be the Souls genre. However, they've made other games that while they haven't been as MUCH as a success, they are still solid. Some of them are Metal Wolf Chaos, King Field, Chromehounds (lots of fun back in the day) and Shadow Tower.

It'll be good if you like Mecha games. Probably will be more difficult or grindy then Souls games. Each mission is gonna depend on your build but also your skill level.

If you want to get into the series proper I'd suggest starting from AC2 or AC3 and work your way up.

Time will tell if AC6 will be new player friendly(probably not). I imagine it will have a steep learning curve.

Gameplay looks great and I imagine mech progression will feel good.

Armored Core is primarily a 3rd person Mecha shooter at it's core but has more depth to it then that.

I'd much rather get a new Chromehounds, Steel Battalion, Mechwarrior, etc, more bent on slow moving mech simulation and less arcadish. I'm really not into the flying mechs with swords thing.

BUT, the atmosphere of ACVI feels just right and I'm sure the game will be good. It won't be for everyone's taste but I doubt it will suck per se. FROM got this. Colour me interested if the single-player campaign is good. I may buy it on sale.

I played a couple of AC back in PS2 days but couldn't get into due to how complicated the game was with all the customization. But From was such a small time developer at this time so they didn't really care to streamline it, they just kept going with their style for their most hardcore fanbase.

I reckon now that they achieved mainstream status and is considered being one of the top premier studios, maybe they will make AC more player friendly so that they can branch out to a bigger audience. It's also safe to say that From Software has grown as a company, attracted more talent, tech and know how. Armored Core 6 may be a soft reboot where they are taking it to a whole new level. I don't see why being hyped for this should be considered strange. From Software has become a popular developer with a die hard fanbase.

They are running wild in the trailers for AC with "fire will fade" and "burn the last embers and cinders" and what not, making you automatically think of Dark Souls (in particular DS3). I think that's kinda cheap.

You need to be careful with the FromSoft fanbase. They were pretty hardcore even back when From wasn't famous, and they've grown in numbers and have a major successful franchise to brag about. But to their defense, you are pretty confrontational in the OP, dismissing long time fans who have eagerly waiting for a new AC saying nobody gave a fuck about it before. It's maybe hard to believe, but there are plenty of FromSoft-fans who are sick with Souls and want them to go back to their earlier stuff, and you just took a dump on them while also dissing their new fans, saying they can't distinguish Armored Core from Dark Souls.

I agree. Also, armored core is generally just really fucking cool. They played up high speed metal ultraviolence in the trailer and that will probably float a lot of peoples boats. Froms much larger reach helps out a lot.

Hell, with any luck - forgive my hopium huffing - From may resurrect the mecha genre.

It's From Software. 99% of people didn't get into their games until Dark Souls or Bloodborne. While AC6 might not play like a Souls game you would expect a high quality game. Fair enough. Obviously I was being a bit hyperbolic because there's no chance that not a single person in the entire universe cared. It just means that AC didn't have such a large following in the past, and the current interest has grown largely thanks to the popularity and renown of the Souls games.
