Why is the community convicting Evilore? I see no jurors here.

Sorry, it's utterance is banned here. Literally censored.

The thing is the mods bailed out. That's what caused all this.

Indeed. If the mods didn't go, hardly any one else would have. Mods thought the response was shady (literally every single one left) and felt EL hadn't treated them well enough recently to continue making money for him while working for free. Everyone else went with them. All there is to it. A simple apology would have stopped all this, but instead ego and pride burned everything to the ground.

Look, you it's stupid to think you should keep putting dollars into the pocket of someone just because they haven't been convicted in a court of law. You can do it just because you don't like the dude. People didn't like how evilore handled the situation, so they left. He'd gotten through many many other terrible actions with widespread support and good will. This time he didn't. If you want money from people, it usually helps that they like you.

And on the flip side you have some disgruntled ex-gaffers who either got banned or stopped posting even before all this happened helming that other place. Taking advantage of the situation to monetize Gafs abandoning user base.

And I recognize maybe three of them. Gaf will never recover from this as long as the owner continues to run it. Nothing against him, we live in a witch hunting society, but industry insiders no longer will be a part of this. It is sad to see but the accusations were enough to kill this place. And if there was not a history of posts defending such behavior, or acting as if it did not exist....

It is done. Move on or be associated with the problem.
Like you are right now? I don't get your reasoning at all, what is your aim recruiting? To shame the owner every chance you get? Why not take your own advice when there's somewhere you can go?

Excuse me for not seeing a sticky in a part of the site I don't use.

Did you only stop recently? I mean your last post in gaming was two weeks ago.

EDIT Anyway you've plenty of reading to do and can come to your own conclusions about why all those "closeminded" people got pissed and left.

I meant 10k in the new place.

I can barely understand what you're saying, but who cares about being the best. Message boards are for talking to people, go to the place you find the people you want to talk to the most. If you like this place, you're welcome to it. There's nothing right or wrong about changing forums. No one owes evilore or any other poster a damn thing. It's his job to make this place attractive for people to want to be here. They didn't want this product anymore. No need for silly morality.

I agree with your post for the most part. Enough so that Si will not argue your points because they are close to my own.

Oh it has changed.

This forum has evolved by leaps and bounds for as long as I've been here. When I first joined "hot women" threads, bad women driver threads, etc, were the norm. The community was semi-progressive, but it was in no way as inclusive as it has been in the last few years (in terms of embracing diversity).

I'm looking forward to the changes that come from this whole process.

And this is where I'm at. This isn't the Evilore Age Forum. There's other stuff going on that this community should be talking about (and granted people are trying to keep that up.) I get that people don't want to be part of a community run be a sexual predator, but it hasn't been established whether that's the case or not. Why are so many people acting like it is? Serious accusations deserve serious evidence. Right now we have people abandoning ship over words.

I'm not certain about the recent accusations, but Tyler openly admitted grabbing a women's ass in a club to assert dominance or something along the lines, and that can be considered an assault. The thread has been nuked of course, but screenshot of conversation are out there. And revenge porn.

Honestly I think everyone may have made mistake in the past to different degrees, but people will grow skeptical of you and if anything crazy is accused of you again, it shouldn't be a surprise that people are "done" with you.

If they can create a community that people want to use, who cares? Again, it was EL job to keep people here. He failed. If the other people can keep people happy and involved, they deserve the money. You don't steal a community, you create a product that people want and you hope it catches on. It's not like they conspired this whole thing knowing they'd kill gaf and make some bucks for it. Again, EL did this to himself, no one else. Right place at the right time for the others.

Like you are right now? I don't get your reasoning at all, what is your aim recruiting? To shame the owner every chance you get? Why not take your own advice when there's somewhere you can go?

I am not recruiting. I am not even a part of the new messageboard. I am not a member.

Neogaf became a difficult place to be a part of years ago. It was no longer fun, and was filled with spite and anger. I have nothing against Evilore, and have no idea if any accusations against him are true. I just know that this place became a an unhealthy place to hang out.

This thread is disingenuous as hell. NeoGAF is not a court of law and no one should be expected to base their decisions on where they do and do not spend their time on whether the person running the site was convicted of a crime.

The exodus of NeoGAF is squarely at evilore's feet but all these threads keep painting the community as the real bad guys for not tolerating his nonsense any further. He has a history of sexual misconduct and he has a history of nuking people for talking about it. The reason people left is because he drove them away. He said a statement was coming when news broke but it never did. His initial response to the mod team on the accusations was so bad that the entire team walked. He shuts down the forums because it's literally a wild west that is out of his control. It comes back days later with its legs cut off - entire communities are alienated as a diversion tactic. GAF was already hemorrhaging users at this point, but banning social and political discourse pretty guaranteed that a ton of OT members couldn't come back.

This is a prime example of how not to handle being accused of sexual misconduct.

I misread your post and actually mixed you up with someone else. I do hope Gaf becomes a place you become comfortable with in time I feel good changes gonna come.

And look at the long gaps between. I'm not over there with any frequency.

Well its still there. You've a massive thread full of peoples reasons for leaving.

I'd be surprised if GAF recovers. RSE is of to an amazing start I think it will probably take the crown. Public registration opens today apparently. I missed all the discord waves. :(

I just want to point out that the incident doesn't even matter as much as the response. People don't like deflection and everything EL has done looks like it was done to avoid responsibility while passing the blame to unrelated spaces. Every mod leaving makes it easy as well as the moderators were the backbone of the community. The entire situation was handled extremely poorly and with an easy out, it's no wonder people left. The new place is more gaf than gaf is now.
Not really. Look at all the account suicides who posted racist and hate speech on their way out.

I will say this, it's been one of the smoothest launches of a new site I've ever seen and most forum features are a direct upgrade to here.

Not sure i'd agree with the smoothest launch part after the username fiasco.

You had users who had entered their real name onto the sign up page, as the field was titled name instead of username. Then one of the mods asked users to post their requested usernames in a thread basically linking their real name with a requested user name and Gamertag etc..

Thread was picked up by 8ch and wiki straight away and there is now a pastebin repository containing those details.

So you voted Trump in the General?

And you call Bernie "Burnie" because?
Where did I say I voted for Trump? I had to vote for Clinton. But she is a weak candidate. Burnie was much stronger in the primaries, when you consider his starting position (0). Instead we have to live under the duality of President Trump and insecure and delusional Hillary fans. The Dem primary outcome literally ruined the planet. Now the ripple effect is destroying everything else too that is liberal (GAF).

Thank you 100% agree with you. People overreacting over accusations and not letting both sides speak. People talking about how he took time to reply but how do you reply when you know you're gonna be judged by everyone regardless of what you say. I don't get it what do people want him to do? If I was him I'd reach out to the accuser and try to settle it between themselves. Also if she states she didn't out him on purpose then why post about it at all. Why not say we both fked up and were drunk. I don't get her angle, if she wants to ruin him why not just go all out. I'm sure they both want to have this blow over but if anyone backs down now they're gonna be considered the guilty one or the weak one. Just my opinion.

This is also true. Can't disagree with it.

I saw that. Weird that a mod would make such a thread fully knowing that whoever responded would have their real names exposed. Growing pains I suppose.

You still haven't explained the Burnie bit but we're going off on a tangent, you'd remind me of Jimmy Dore but at least you didn't tell people to vote trump because your guy lost the primaries, so I like you well enough.

I saw people's full names over there, but I never bothered looking at the thread where they were publicly requesting their usernames... what a shitfest.

Not even defense. Reasonable humans standing on solid ground. Enjoy the view from your highhorse though.

Is this hate speech? Can't let people have their little space to socialize just because you happen to not like the place?

But she is a weak candidate. Burnie was much stronger in the primaries, when you consider his starting position (0).

And why would you arbitrarily consider that? He was no less a 70 year old career politician than his opponent. They had the same starting point, it's just the one that won did more with her starting point than Bernie ever did.

So how many of the account suicides were racist and hate speech?

You guys, smh...

I saw a lot..maybe not racist but there was a lot of hate expressed towards those who were staying...there is no good reason for that and you know it. Everyone has a choice and some chose to stay.

I think when people are literally shrugging off the EviLore situation to justify posting on a message forum, it's beyond tarnished. Maybe if he fucked off it'd be saveable, but he's clearly not going to do that.

I'd prefer if they just said they don't care about the whole thing.
Are we insulting your sensibilities? Can a man not put himself in another human beings shoes and think.."yeah the situations kinda fucked up but the response is disproportionate" and not have some stoic highhorse rider looking down their nose at them?

It ain't perfect (and that's pretty bad, but at least if they switch to new avatars and names behind the scenes it won't matter outside of losing your wanted name), but as far as community integration and site usability goes, it's been top notch. Some communication hasn't been perfect, but we'll see.

Even if the allegations against Evilore were jaywalking instead of sexual misconduct, the mass exodus of GAF mods would most likely still have happened simply because they already lost their patience with him regarding his penchant to abuse his powers by ordering them to censor all pertinent discussions about his actions or his favourites (like Amir0x).

The fact that Evilore's explanations to his actions were off-tangent and filled with embellishments and stealth bragging certainly doesnt help. I mean if he were going to explain a hypothetical jaywalking incident to the mods, it would probably involve a crazy,bi-sexual, ex-girlfriend conspiring with an evil scientology sex cultist to lay traps on the pedestrian lane to ensnare him. Thats why he have to go cross in the middle of the road using his Muay Thai training to punch away incoming cars and other vehicles.

I've all the empathy in the world, but that guy has to fess up and apologise for the wrong doing before he could seek forgiveness.

And that only if you take this situation in isolation. People have rightly had enough.

Sorry but not everyone thinks alike. And just because some of staying doesn't mean they are defending him.

Forgiveness from who and for what? If its about more than this incident, that ship has sailed yaw'll all stayed anyways

They would probably need new accounts if whoever catalogued the information also captured their member ID from the profile URL.

Post was deleted.

That's the worst thing about the new place. GAF became elitist sort of out of necessity. Restricting new membership evolved over time to keep the community intact. I was disappointed when it came out that you needed an email account with a .edu suffix, because gaming is for everyone, and not everyone has the means, opportunity, or ability to go to college. But the site dealt with so many trolls while membership was open, and so many shills when corporate emails were allowed that it was hard to see an alternative.

This new place it taking up elitism not as a necessary evil to maintain a community, but as a founding pillar. It seems like they're building a community on a foundation of the worst, most insular parts of GAF. I hope that the community does well and that people enjoy it, but it doesn't seem like they're off to a great start.

(I will add that my investigation into the new site hasn't been more than a few hours tonight, so I could be wrong about the structure and membership requirements. This is all still developing after all.)

This is kinda sad.

So you keep posting here because the site you want to be a part of does not know or want you , so you continue to post and shit where you may have to eat until lord knows when they acknowledge your existence. Sounds legit.

It's not that serious. They're planning on having the same process that NeoGAF uses. It just isn't open yet due the massive amount of users that have already taken on.

People can post on more than one site as well. It is that difficult.

Posting is one thing, its your old home say your goodbyes and all I can dig that, but shitposting and drive by negativity..real classy.

I agree that Tyler handled the aftermath extremely poorly, but this a community that’s been going for nigh on two decades. It sucks to see it go down.

I've looked for discussions in other venues. I've seen some character assassination about Evilor (which is nothing new, people love to talk shit about NeoGAF and its staff) but nothing substantive. Malka doesn't have an unlimited ability to ban people on other communities, why is there so little support for the adopted narrative elsewhere? And why are people leaving because of an allegation? None of this can be called fact yet from what I've seen. It's puzzling.

People are not leaving for one reason only. It was a chaos storm of factors including other people leaving (and people wanting to be with their friends and OTs) that caused different people to leave for different dominant convictions. Including the fact that EL decided to ban political and social discussion on an international off-topic forum, and some people may want to move on to a community where they can discuss that.
