Wii U Games 2013

So it sounds like the Sonic impressions I read were garbage then, from what I read it sounded like it was a big step back from the recent games and disappointing. Are you guys saying I should buy it over something else?

I just don't know who/what to believe about that game because pre-release footage made me excited and now impressions make it seem like it doesn't even play like a Sonic game.

Sonic Lost World on Wii U is a beautiful, exhilerating, original, initially awkward to learn, fiendishly difficult but always fair, occasionally uneven masterpiece which only seriously lets itself down at the anticlimactic last hurdle. It's true to Sonic's roots, but feels exciting and new.

It's not as consistent as other games in the series, but taken purely as a collection of numerous highs stacked against its few troubling lows, I honestly think it's the best Sonic game yet.

Well put. I agree. Didn't expect much but Street a do so first impression left out very satisfied.

Sums it up for me perfectly. I even enjoyed the cutscenes.

I'm guessing it got pushed that far back in order to get the XB1/PS4 versions in the mix. They had issue a poll on whether they should bring the game to next-gen as well. For a small team, it's probably the wise thing to do(if that's indeed the case), both in reaching more consumers, and having all platform versions ride the same hype wave. Either way, the more time they get to polish the game, the better.

Edit: Just read the link, and that's exactly the case. I don't know if to pat myself on the back for an educated guess, or kick myself for not reading the very link I quoted, lol. Also, it seems like this news was all over GAF today, in multiple threads. Forgive me, I just got home. :D

At least having Project Cars will provide two realistic (at least compared to Mario Kart) racers on Wii U (the other being Need for Speed).

You know, the fact that they dropped the current-gen consoles, and not Wii U is quite something. The only thing I can think of is that; the technical challenges on PS360(as well as not wanting to make drastic compromises) outweighed the benefit of targeting their massive bases. Apparently, Wii U is capable enough to maintain their vision.

Oh did they? That's nice at least. Maybe it's just the RAM? 2GB is still quite a bit more than the 360's 512 MB and the PS3's 256 MB.

What do you guys think Nintendo can pull for Wii U 3rd party games in 2014? Anything that would appeal to the Japanese?

I think in general we have:
Watch Dogs,
Project Cars
Fire Emblem x SMT (not sure whether this is 1st or 3rd party)

That's it right? Hopefully if Taiko does well we may get a sequel for that. In addition, maybe the Wii U will get a Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate. Anything else though?

Fire Emblem X SMT is 1st party. It's developed by Atlus (+Intelligent Systems to some extent) but Nintendo funds it. It may very well miss 2014 as well. Nintendo has not said when it will be out. Other than the remaining two it's not looking very good. Although in addition to those there's Child of Light by Ubisoft but that's a smallish downloadable title. We have a pretty good idea of what the big 2014 3rd party games are. Pretty much all of them are skipping Wii U. Although we could get some Wii U ports announced later like happened with CoD. Ubisoft support (and CoD) is still up in the air. I think it was stated that they're looking closely to Wii U figures right now.

Is it only my Wii U which is rather noisy when it has a disc in it (even when I'm not playing the game - I'm currently downloading Wii Sports Club and when I took out the AC3 disc it stopped being noisy).

No, it's a common problem.

They solved it party, the disc doesn't rotate anymore when you use a non-gaming-application, but it's still quite noisy if you play the game.

I put a T-Shirt underneath my Wii U (or something different which is quite soft), that should kill 50% of the noise, because the wood of my furniture enhances the noise/vibrations.

Based on Miiverse top 3rd party new release games are Batman AO, AC4, COD Ghose and Sonic, those games are doing way better then the shovelware/casual stuff and even better then Lego Marvel. I think WiiU get another COD, AC, and WB wont drop support. WD being delayed is a good thing for Sales its prob coming out after MK8 and plus the holiday boost WiiU will have a way better install base by then.

Oh wow. Hopefully they can fix it through software updates. :/

It does that on purpose. Someone explained it a few months ago somewhere (super helpful now, I know lol) but it has something to do with avoiding quicker wear-out of the drive or something if the disc had to spin-up constantly. I'm paraphrasing here, don't remember it perfectly. It's a bummer that this is accompanied by the noise but I can see why it's doing that. Still it's quieter than my OG PS3 without a disc lol.

Uhm, I noticed that Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games is available to buy on the e-shop (europe).

Any impressions?

I think we'll get at least one more CoD, and I don't think WB/Ubi will drop ALL AAA support. But that leaves us with only a small handful of "big" 3rd party games per year. That's not many.

So two "bad online on Wii U" anecdotes: I got Mass Effect 3 yesterday and fired up the multiplayer to see if there were still people playing. Immediately got into a match. We even switched out people multiple times and never had to wait before someone else joined.

And today I have just finished Assassin's Creed Revelations on PS3 and now could finally start with AC III on Wii U. I've played some multiplayer before but just for kicks I booted it up again, first time since they fixed their server stuff and after AC IV came out in the US. Also immediately got into a match with a bunch of people playing.

So maybe I'm super-lucky or it's not that bad as people are trying to make it sound (or at least not anymore?).

Another thing, I was super impressed by ME3's inclusion of push-to-talk voice chat (mic botton on the left and right side of the touch screen) for the online mp instead of just having an always-on mic. Straight Right really do think of almost everything when it comes to Wii U features.

I haven't had problem with ME3 multiplayer, usually find people to play pretty fast. Same with Need for Speed. Now Sonic Racing...have never been able to play a match online :(

Now ask somebody from Straight Right to march over to the guys that ported Arkham Origins and deliver a backhand slap for not allowing the user to launch AO in gamepad play when the TV is off.

What, seriously? Wow, how could they mess that up, of all things.

I could never play AC3 multiplayer since it was broken at the time. Haven't tried since the fix. Maybe I will at some point.

ME3 I didn't play a lot of online (this was in the spring). But the times I did I never had to wait more than 30 seconds for a lobby to fill up.

What's the consensus on Scribblenauts Unlimited around here? I've heard good things about it but I wanted to know you guys' opinions.

Let's talk about freezes. How many do you get on average - let's say in a month?

I know certain software is noted for causing freezes (in Splinter Cell: Blacklist you can't play several modes because simple things like respawning after dying will lock up the console) but I just had one on Friends List... I've noticed an uptick in freezes overall lately at random spots. I'd say I've had 10 console freezes in the past two weeks since I started using it again.

Any tech-savvier-than-I-am people know if freezing is bad for the hardware (meaning I should avoid playing games that make it lock up)?

Don't remember having any outside of a game since the first big update.

Hmm, have you installed the latest firmware?

I didn't have any freezes in ages (I must say that I didn't have much of them in the beginning either, when most people had this problem).

My (launch day) Wii U has never froze on me but I know I'm in the minority.

Not worth it. Huge novelty value but after it wears out you're left with something as bland as "anything you write comes to life" concept can be.

I've had three since launch, two in the very early days and one surprising occurrence a few weeks ago while playing Wonderful 101.

I just came across the X - thread (deleting some of my subscriptions) and stumbled upon those gifs... I forgot how pumped I'm for this. :D

This is probably my moost wanted game (aside from the real Wii U Zelda), but I think we have to wait until Q4 2014 at least. ;__;

But that's exactly what I want! I've always been intrigued by the series and this just seems like a great place to jump in. Oh well, I'll think about it.

My Wii U has never frozen on me, by the way.

I haven't had mine freeze on me in a while, like since the first couple of launch months.

My hard drive likes to fail a bunch of times though. I just plug it into different USB ports until the next time.

I had none since the last update. Before that I had 5 or 6 since the launch.

Not sure why people keep making topics asking for Wii U game suggestions when there is this one right here. I understand it's to encourage community input, but there's been like five-six topics now - it can only be answered so many times. :(

Sorry for being a little off-topic, just wanted to get that off my back.

It happens on every board with every platform. Even when there's sometimes the exact same thread with a bunch of answers still on the first page of the topic list.
