Wii U Pro Controller announced - X360pad design, no screen, "for multiplatform games"

Wow holy shit. Nice controller. Face buttons under the right stick? Might be weird might be good. Nintendo going all hardcore aww shiiiit

I'm glad it's like the 360's controller, since it's my personal favourite traditional control pad.

I will most likely pick one up along side the Wii U.

I wonder how much of the price they could have lowered with just this controller and not the tablet one?

More than $100?

Face button placement is the most unacceptable thing I have ever seen. I try to not hate all that much, but it really will make playing games uncomfortable. Maybe I'm not giving Nintendo enough of a chance, but I remain skeptical on this.

Nintendo just made everything alright with this controller.

no more crying about it only being one Wii U controller I'm happy with this.

So how many controllers am I going to have to buy for WiiU?

I can see this getting expensive.

Better be bundled with the system if they want 100% support from 3rd parties.

GREAT decision to copy the 360 pad form though, best design ever to cover most of the market and will play like a dream. A little worried about the Dpad and having the buttons under the sticks though.

Great to see them come out swinging with a great traditional controller too, should make the 3rd parties think a lot more about the porting opportunities.

Nice.

Sorta wish they just ripped the 360 controller off whole sale and switch the placement of the right thumbstick and the buttons.

I'm betting right-stick placement was either a third party call or Nintendo's idea to make FPS games better. The most important buttons in an FPS game are either on the triggers or on the click sticks...

for other genres that button placement might not be so hot. I'm sure its fine, as I've never known a Nintendo controller to be uncomfortable, but it definitely looks tailored to FPS to me.

I love this! Definitely looking forward to this controller and I absolutely love the fact that it will be wireless! I love the form factor too with it looking quite similar to the X360 controller. I will buy one right away!

I don't like that the sticks are above the buttons. It doesn't make any sense to me. Why make a "multiplatform" controller and keep the sticks in a weird position? (I also don't see the need for a new controller to begin with...)

If you were to compare the button placements between the ps3/360/wiiu, the 360's does look the most asymmetrical now not having sticks on the same axis.

I wonder how much of the price they could have lowered with just this controller and not the tablet one?

More than $100?

The tablet controller is the entire point of the system.

The buttons being under the analog stick is the only wrong thing in this picture. The Dpad and buttons should be better than the 360 ones if the classic pro is any indication. It's so close to perfect that it hurts to see the buttons underneath...

I DO hope they stick to their guns and release it this way at launch, rather than flipping to be like the 360. If they do flip it though then I hope it's PS3 style, I suspect I could better adjust to BOTH the buttons and D-Pad in the bottom position than just the D-Pad.

does Microsoft have sort of design patent on the controller or something like Apple has with the iPad?

why would you put the buttons there?

The button position is fine, non-FPS games aren't going to be any less awkward than playing FPS's on the 360, and while FPS games will probably play more comfortably.

Then again I'll be using a Wii remote anyways, since dual analogs blow for FPSs.

I wish ninty would have falled back on the gamecube controller layout but oh well... This controller pleases me nonetheless.

First Microsoft switches the left stick. Then Nintendo switches the right. Probably their first reactive controller move in some time.
