Wii U Pro Controller announced - X360pad design, no screen, "for multiplatform games"

Woah, so there's:

Wii U Pro
Wiimote
Wiimote+Nunchuk
DRC
Wiimote+Classic controller

Damn dude. This is awesome, and everyone gets a choice how they want to play.

I can still Smash Bros. the way I want to!

Best controller ever. Superior 360 controller design with a usable D-pad.

I'll wait to see how the triggers feel first before making that statement. But if they're isn't much difference, I agree. I would still like to get this as the pack in controller, for a reduced price.

This essentially guarantees that most 3rd party titles will not make meaningful use of the tablet.

That being the case, what would be the motivation for anyone to buy multiplat titles on WiiU?

Buttons don't look to bad imo. The dpad/button layout is a bit wider than I expected after seeing the overlay gif.

Impressed that Nintendo recognized the need for this, but please god swap the position of that 2nd analog controller/face buttons.

They won't, and they shouldn't.

They want people to enjoy playing FPS on their console. Sprint / mouse-look style aiming is probably the thing you do most in an FPS other than shoot at shit. This will feel pretty damn good for FPS games...

its the other genres that might not be as nice. Like someone else said though I think the symmetry of the lower section will feel nice for 2D games and SNES VC titles.

If Nintendo has been highlighting the use of the Wii U with JUST the screen on the Pad, why does everyone seem to think this is a radical departure?

It's infuriating.

This is a way to 'not scare' 3rd party devs but at the same time it just seems like a response om how left field they went in creating that screen controller.

Looks fine since you don't use the camera very often in 3D platforms. So the second stick being above the buttons isn't really a big deal to me. I just hope I don't have to use the damn thing when it comes to shooters/anything involving some kind of aiming.

It has both a Power button and a Home button? that makes no sense.

So does the Wii and WiiU standard controller. They want you to be able to turn the console off from the controller with a single button I guess. They don't like holding down the home button and picking a menu option like the 360 I guess.

Unless the standard controller is attrocious to hold (in my lap where I normally play) I won't need this. Might be useful for multiplayer games.

Because this won't get bundled with the console.

the WiiU controller comes with the console , the WiiU pro controller does not.

Exactly. People: this is the official 2nd Player controller for the Wii U.

Just like when you buy other consoles: they come with one controller and you have to buy a second (third, fourth) one for local multiplayer. With the Wii U you get one controller (the Wii U Gamepad), and if you want more controllers you buy this sexy thing.

If anything, this confirms two things:

1) The Wii U probably won't be able to support multiple Gamepads (at least, not with nearly the same fidelity).

2) Though they'll never actually admit it, the Wii Remote is dead.

My biggest complaint of the xbox 360 controller was the placement of the analogs. PS3 was much better in that regards, but the sticks were way too close together. This controller seems awesome and fixes the issues I had with the other controllers, regardless of how weird it looks. Nintendo is usually on spot when it comes to comfort of their controllers, I don't expect this to be any different.

It's straight up what would happen if a dual shock 3 and 360 controller fucked. From the weird button placement, to the ds3 player indication lights on the bottom instead of top. It's like Nintendo did everything they could to copy the two controllers, but be able to say "It's TOTALLY" different.

That said, thank god for that thing...

Face button placement seems wonky, 360 controller is asymmetrical for a reason.

Also what kind of batteries? Hopefully not the same as the 360 controller because of the huge ass uncomfortable battery pack.

Unless the anolog sticks don't feel good, this looks great for shooters.

The analog/button placement is mostly fine. If anything it needs longer grips so you can shift your hands down for the bottom set to be comfortable. Some third party PS2 controllers did that with the same Dual Shock layout and it felt much better.

As nice as this is, isn't it basically giving 3rd party developers the means to phone in thier ports and barely make use of the Wii U controller?

I see in Wii U's future a ton of PS3/X360 ports with a static map on the controller screen.

I think this is more likely to be an excuse for them not to bundle any controller at all to keep the price of the console low.

That way they can say that people can choose what kind of play-style they want out of their controller of choice. Sold separately for our convenience ;)

I never expected any different. We're going to get some Nintendo games that make incredible use of the second screen and a handful of third party devs who do some really cool innovative stuff with it and a looooot of lazy ports or just generic use of the screen.

There's absolutely zero chance of the Wii U coming without the tablet.

So this controller has a gyroscope in it?

Must be real fun developing games for it.

I have the motion plus that I barely used. But, I will stick with the one in the box.
