I'll be outisde my local GAME at 9am on Friday picking up:

Wii U Deluxe w/ Nintendoland
New Super Mario Bros. U
ZombiU
£20-£25 eShop voucher for - Nano Assault, Mighty Switch Force HD

Cannot wait!

I'll be picking up NSMBU, Nintendo Land and ZombiU. Will also supplement my day one purchases with some Wii games, having never owned that system. Think I will go for Mario Galaxy 2, Skyward Sword, Donkey Kong Country Returns and Smash Bros. Brawl to get me started.

wouldn't it be cheaper to buy the zombiu bundle?

are those digital games good then? how much do you think they will be? I'ma against investing too heavily in digital on the wii u until nintendo allow account migration, but I am willing to buy games that £10 or lower.

is there any official word on a euro launch thread or shall we just use this? I thought we'd need our thread, but this thread has been really good with advice and impressions that we could keep using this thread.

oh wow u can play something on youtube using the browser, send it to the back and browse a different site while the video plays in the background

Or you can put it on the TV to play while using the gamepad to scope out your next video or just about anything else. Very nice when you're lazing. As I said before, of all the things that surprised me, the web browser was the best by far. Customization aside, I'd say it rivals desktop browsers... lack of flash and all.

No, the ZombiU bundle doesnt come with Nintendoland (I want it pretty badly).

RRP: deluxe costing £309.99 and two games at £49.99
RRP: ZombiU bunble £349.99 and two games at £49.99

The games are $9.99 each, i'm hoping that translates to £6-£10. I've heard good things about both.

This thread is awesome, may as well keep using it :)

Both are quite excellent, and both are quite visually stunning.

you're right. I don't know why but I thought nintendoland was in the zombiu bundle.

I'd be happy buying games in that price range. I was going to get trine 2 as well until I remembered I bought it on the xbox 360 when it released. I might still buy it though, I haven't really played it beyond the first two levels.

agreed. this thread has been good for everything so far.

thanks for the input. if they aren't above £10 each, I'll definitely get both. I sincerely hope that nintendo do see the light at some point and allow for account migration, I would love to go full digital, especially on the wii u.

I didn't check, but I believe Trine 2 on the Wii U also includes the expansion pack. Love Trine 2, thinking about buying it again on Wii U because it has an exclusive level.

Came here to say that I just got the WiiU and I love it. It can compete with my Ipad when the TV is taken, and Nintendoland is the most hilarious party game I can remember. I'm super impressed.

So was just wondering if there is an option to turn off the pro controller? Cant seem to find it & the only way seems to just power down the system

For PAL gafers, pick up ZombiU. Incredibly unique title. Really enjoying it so far.
Thanks for the heads up, I already had my pre-order down though. My Souls-hardened body is ready for abuse.

Probably old, but in the FAQs of the nintendo site there's written that with Nintendo Network Premium you get 8 points for every euro spent and at 500 points you get a 5€ discount. So that's 5€ less every 62,5€ spent, or 8% discount
Yeah this was discussed in another thread, people were criticizing the seemingly different value EU (8%)/US(10%). Quoting myself:

Should be the other way round? You should factor in VAT/sales tax:

Euro game: EUR 60 (incl. VAT usually around 20 %) = 488 points ~ EUR 4.9 ~ 8 % cashback on gross price
$ 60 + sales tax (let's say 20 % for comparison's sake) = $ 72 = 600 points = $ 6 ~ 8.3 % cashback on gross price

US game: $ 60 = 600 points = $ 6 = 10 % cashback on net price
EUR 60 - 20 % = EUR 48 ~ 10.2 % cashback on net price

Systems are different though, sales tax is usually lower than our VAT (some states don't have one on certain products, iirc it was that way when I was staying there), but that's not Nintendo's fault I guess.

Finally put in nintendoland. Surprisingly good graphics lol. I only played that Yoshi game where you have to trace a route to get all the fruit. Pretty fun. Hopefully some of the other minigames have a little more depth than that one though.

Yoshi's one is probably one of the more frustrating games to me... Zelda game is fun with a couple people playing with you. Donkey Kong one is very addictive and I think I've played more of it than any of the other single player games.

Wow - no hyperbole on the battery life of the controller. I normally don't notice these things but wow!

Guess I'll have to get used to daily charging (twice a day on weekends!).

It sucks but I'm used to it with the 3DS.

I don't need to game longer than that each session anyway.

Don't get me wrong, it should be a lot more and one day it probably will.

this makes me glad that the gamepad comes with its own charger. I would hate tot be tied tot he console while it charges.

Yeah, I'm waiting on a second AC charger because of this -- charging stand in the living room and second charger by my bed.

Damn it still waiting for my Wii U but should have it shipped in the next couple of days ( long story short, wanted the Deluxe unit and it was sold out everywhere in my area but my bro who lives out of state snagged one for me in TEXAS and already shipped) anyway does it matter which way you stand the U on the base? I'm thinking vent side up to allow more air to flow freely. Every set up I've seen shows it with the vents pointing down and just wondered why and if there is a right or wrong way to set it up on it's base/legs.

Finally got around to setting everything up yesterday after a 4 hour drive back from my parents' for Thanksgiving. I was pretty happy with the package overall but I was a little disappointed that there wasn't an Ethernet port since 99% of my home network is wired. It seems that you can buy a LAN accessory to run wired but I don't plan on playing many online multiplayer focused titles on this console, so I'll pass for now. The big 5GB update didn't take very long over my 50/10 connection even over wireless, so all is well.

Mii creation seemed more robust but I haven't touched my Wii in years so I don't really remember much about what was available before. It definitely seemed like there were a lot more hair options though. Nintendo Network registration was pretty flawless. After messing with the Miiverse and configuration settings, I played around with the Netflix and Youtube apps. The Netflix app was nice and pretty much on par with all my other devices. Being able to watch from the gamepad is nice but I have my iPad for that. I didn't get very far with the Youtube app since it was reporting no videos for all my subscriptions.

I liked the browser. It's very competent for a console browser and pretty fast at loading content. The curtain thing was fun to play with if you have other people in the room.

On to the games...

I started with Nintendo Land and was blown away with how much fun the game was. I had low expectations going in but it's leagues better than the Wii Sports pack-in game for the Wii. I wish more of the attractions had multiplayer options but using the train competition thing, it seems that you can compete with other people even in the single player focused attractions. I like that you can collect coins and unlock various Nintendo Land items via the mini game. I played for about 4 hours and had a lot of fun.

Next up was Just Dance 4. I was kind of annoyed that they were charging more for this version than the Wii version when the games are identical (other than the HD resolution/textures) as far as I know. The game utilizes Wii remotes without any additional Wii U gamepad functionality or features. You can log into U-Play but that's about it. The game was still a blast to play though. Versus battles are a recipe for disaster - you often crash into other players or one of them ends up blocking your view and probably your sensor bar signals resulting in poor scores. I think it's best played with two people at a time in 'co-op' or just taking turns. I'm in good shape but a few songs already had me sweating. I can't imagine what the work out mode is like but will definitely try it out.

Next game was Zombi U. I started up a quick game and played for about an hour and was actually impressed. The game has great atmosphere and I was genuinely frightened while running around and completing objectives. Ultimately it was late and I had to call it a night (and was also a bit scared to continue) so I didn't get too much done. I absolutely love the way the gamepad is integrated here and can't wait to see what future games can do with this technology.

Didn't get a chance to touch New Super Mario Bros. U yet. Maybe later today.

so im thinking about picking up

deluxe
mario
cod blops 2
tekken
sonic racing
assassins creed 3

will get zombiu later

anything i should add or delete out of the list?

You're picking up exactly what I picked up. I'm more than pleased except for Tekken, which I'm having a hard time getting into because I suck.

There are little pegs on the vented side that stick into the stand.

There are some stupidly amusing things about the warawara plaza. Sometimes a crowd starts dancing. A lone pair may do hip bumps. Also pressing the shoulder buttons to rotate the icons gets everyone running.

I was at Target yesterday doing some post-BF shopping and I walked past the Wii U Kiosk.

I tried messing with the controller and realized that none of the games are actually playable, they're all just videos. Is this true for all of them? It seems rather stupid not to let me try the games out...

Rayman is supposed to be available(it is at Gamestop)

Yeah they also do some type of Tai Chi together or something... if you keep watching them there seems to be some kind of coding driving them to copy each other while some are lazy and go on alone

Wanted to add to my impressions that as others have mentioned, battery life on the gamepad did not last very long at all. I'll also be investing in a secondary charger soon.

Pretty sure that Rayman Legends is the only playable demo on the kiosks.

Shin'en are the tech wizards.

And they are happy with the WiiU hardware (only 20% tapped by them), so I have no real concerns about its power

I still can't believed they managed to pull off those visuals with only using 50mb of space. Nintendo publish a retail game for them asap!

Gotcha now i see, does the console still work if you flipped it over? I think it would let air flow free and not get blasted back onto whatever surface it's on, but what the hell do I know!

Another thing I like about the browser: highlighting text is actually like on the PC -- just start wherever and slide across. It helps that the stylus gives good accuracy (I'm using my Theatrhythm one). Doing this on Android is a pain, having hold down on a word (which is a problem when the text is a link), then adjusting the two arrows. Copy-Paste is also a UX travesty on Android.

It's a marvel to me that HAL Labs created a browser UX that blows away most smartphone and tablet browsers that I've used, even with its limited functionality.

Has anyone noticed that the colors are kind of dull or washed out? I was just playing NSMBU and the picture looks ok on the gamepad, but on my monitor not so much. Is this something I'm doing wrong? I have an IPS monitor I'm plugging into and the picture isn't very good compared to my PS3, which uses the same port and cable.

I thought this exact same thing. I wasn't sure which way it was supposed to be at first (which makes me feel a little dumb but whatever) and I just assumed the vents needed to be facing up, so that's the way I had it initially. Then I noticed the pegs and thought hmm

Nice review.
I think a lot of us underestimated what NintendoLand offers. Seems to be the definition of multiplayer gaming experience.
and btw, the sytem update was roughly 1GB so that's why the download felt faster

I guess those are air intakes, not exhausts, considering they have filters. I think the fans are at the back.

Random question: Where is the best place to get the official nintendo wii remote + nunchuk. I realize I need more sets now with NL and other games. Is it just nintendo.com? Or is there anywhere where they're not exorbitantly priced?

Also I assume the Motion Plus thing is totally irrelevant now right and I don't need to worry about it?
