Wii U Satisfaction Thread

All of this talk of slow loading times is insanely exaggerated. I literally haven't even noticed it. If some of you nerds have a stopwatch and are comparing it to an Xbox, yer it might be slower, but rest assured for anyone who hasnt yet tried a Wii U, its all complaining about nothing.

My biggest problem is the loading makes miiverse feel detached from the main console experience. If it were to load instantaneously, it'd feel truly next gen.

I'm going to spend the next few weeks in my family's summer house. There are only two TVs and neither is HD.

Off-TV play is going to be a blessing.

I got a Wii U during the weekend and took quite a while to set it up, when I finally did though it was worth it. I got some friends over and we played Nintendo Land for 4 hours straight. Way too much fun not to do it again. The internet browser is so fast, it's surprising. Watching Youtube on the controller is just great. Miiverse is kind of slow especially in comparison, but it works and has so many impressive drawings.

When I was doing to Wii to Wii U transfer, I had so many problems though. First, I couldn't update and kept getting the same error message. Turns out I still had a block online updates IOS installed, so it took a few steps to get access to that menu again to allow the updates. Then my internet broke for a while, so I reset that. Then in the middle of the transfer with the Pikmin crossing over at about the 40% mark it kept locking up and saying there was an error with the Wii Memory. So I delete a few minor things here and there that I think might be causing it, but it doesn't work. I look up a solution and it all seemed to be just to format the system memory. So I backup my Wii saves with the Save Manager and it says AC:CF couldn't transfer.

When I delete that, everything goes smoothly from then on. Bunch of hoops to go through to figure that out without losing anything.

I got the system about a week ago and I am pretty impressed.

I expected to play NSMB U more then anything, but aside from my GF helping me in Boost mode (which created some pretty amazing moments of hilarity) I have had Nintendo Land spinning in the tray about the entire time.

The games multiplayer is glorious!

The only thing more I want from that game are extra stages for some of the attractions. 3 stages in Luigi's Ghost Mansion just isn't enough.

DLC please Nintendo.

Luigi's Mansion has five stages, you'll unlock the additional two.

The problem with Nintendo Land to me is that I grew tired of it extremely fast. After playing a few multiplayer sessions, I'm pretty much done with it and don't want to ever play it again.

Playing Batman is kind of perfect with the controls - without being able to pause makes the game much more satisfying

The great thing is you can insert a ton of games in place of Batman and that quote still holds truth. I love the games like ZombiU that use the GamePad in a unique way, but I hope some Dev realize that for some multi-plats simply using the GamePad as an Inventory Screen and adding Off-TV Play is enough to make the game better, at least IMHO.

For clarification here, the intro to the Rayman Legends demo is not gamepad-only. Once you actually start a level, then you can focus on just the GamePad if you want to, but the intro and such makes use of both screens.

HA! I'm pretty happy that I wasn't the only one who had this problem. Of course, I worked it out on my own. ;)

I just need two more treasure chests in Trine 2 before I can unlock the final level. After that, I can possibly stop staying up until 3am playing the Wii U. I might buy Nano Assault Neo, though, as I heard it was pretty good for the price.

It's been quite satisfying, with my only real qualms being (A) battery life on the GamePad with the stock battery being incredibly low, and (B), TVii not having enough features. I don't have a television service, but I would have loved it if the system could replace my current media player, which connects to my computer via samba to play my vids.

Donkey Kong's Crash Course is amazing. That is all.

My man!

This is my most played game on all of my gaming devices (PC, 360, ds, psp, wii u) for the last two months, and this is with just four levels. I always keep going back to it and discover new shortcuts to improve my times and try to compete with the best players. It feels a lot like trackmania in a sense which is a game I loved at the time too.

YAY! Just woke up and my GF had bought me a WiiU for my birthday!!

Installing updates :(

I wanted to kill some zambies before work!!!!!

You want to get Puddle on the Nintendo eshop then - similiar to DK except all the levels are broken up shorter instead of one long maze.

The levels are varied with different challenges with the option of choosing diffferent controls and off tv play as well

Also the leader boards are awesome and miiverse is great fun

Do Buy it !!!

I'm digging mine for sure. I'm part of the software attach rate problem though. I actually returned New Super Mario Bros. U retail to pick it up digitally. I also grabbed Little Inferno, and will likely get Nano Assault and maybe Trine 2 soon. I plan to go digital as much as possible, as long as the price disparity isn't that great. I'll be happy if NintendoLand is the only disc I ever own.

I'm not terribly discouraged by the next few months either. I plan to grab:

Runner 2
The Cave
Lego City Undercover
Aliens Colonel Marines

I wonder how likely it will be for digital prices to drop. I wouldn't mind snagging Darksiders II, Sonic Racing and ZombiU, but none of them grab me personally as full price games (though Sonic Racing at $40 isn't that out there, I just haven't got the time for it yet).

All said, that's 12 games I'm interested in in the first 6 months - which will surely last me until Pikmin 3.

It's good enough to be sold by itself either on the eShop or as a $20 package including a course editor. The basic design is brilliant and it uses the gamepad oh so well.

Both Sonic Racing and ZombiU are worth the price of admission, especially since Sonic is $39.99 and ZombiU has already seen some decent discounting ($45). I highly recommend both of those.

I'm impress by the gamepad, but depress as hell because of the lack of games.

That's pretty much me right now. I love Mario, and I like Nintendoland, but I know I'm going to have exhausted the fun out of both in the next couple weeks, and then it's going to be a long wait til the next major game shows up on it.

I'm still excited about Rayman, Wondeful 101, and Pikmin 3, but even those are at least a couple months away.

I'm also contemplating buying Need for Speed: Most Wanted when it arrives in March, as I love the game on the 360. As long as it's a great port, I'll probably pick it up.

Not having an Excite U at launch is criminal. I encourage new Wii U owners who missed Excite Trucks to pick it for cheap, and have a blast.

It's probably going to be replaced by something like Diddy Kong Racing U.

Monster Games (Excite Truck, Excitebots) deliberately skipped the Wii U launch to work on something new.

From Excite Truck and Excitebots, which one is better?

Shame I never though about buying these games on Wii.

It'll be slow few months, but even the 360 had a drought after the initial launch wave. I've just been catching up on wii games I missed out on while playing a 360 all gen.

So glad I bought Excitebots when it was $5 at Best Buy that one time. It was my roommates' go-to after party game for a while. Can't speak to Excite Truck though.

I liked Excitebots more, but understand why some preferred ExciteTruck instead.

Excitebots felt more polished and offered tigher controls, introduced new mechanics and tricks, and offered more content including online play. Both games had bare bones presentation and bad music, but only ExciteTruck featured MP3 support. From what I can remember, both games didn't offer much in the way of enviromental themes for each race cup.The only real dumb new mechanic Excitebots introduced was the motion-controlled spinning red bar which felt too gimmicky, stupid and slowed down the pacing of the gameplay (but it is only used in a few tracks). Excitebots was more frentic due its vehicular transformations while performing a variety of different tricks, but that helped keep things interesting as you're always doing something different besides basic land racing.

So the thing with the Pro Controller is I find I keep hitting A instead of B because of muscle memory. A is where B would be on a 360 controller, and B is where A would be.

I know I'll get used to it, and I do feel the 360 controller is wonderful in its design, but I can't help but feel the buttons are in the wrong place on the Pro Controller. It's like they moved them in some ridiculous attempt to say "Hey, we are different!" Either that or they really felt the analogues were in a better place for the obvious influx of FPS games they were about to receive.

Really, I'd have just gone for the Classic Controller Pro layout with the 360 mould. Would have been perfect. Just annoyed as it's messing up my Tekken.

I don't understand this. Nintendo have had the exact same A B X Y layout on the SNES, DS, 3DS and Wii classic controllers. They've been using that layout for 23 years.

Why should they change it just because Microsoft used a different letter layout for their controller? Its fucking bizarre.

Unless you mean the stick/buttons placement, in which case sorry! But I think that stems from them wanting to keep the look consistent with the gamepad, which obviously has that layout for ergonomic reasons due to its size.

truck and bot are very different games

the systems and graphics are similar but bots is over the top and crazy and emphasizes tricks (like ssx) while truck is more traditional

SNES, man.

Welp, caving in and trading in my PS3 for a Wii U today. I'm to the point in my life where TV time is a commodity that I can't afford (damn you Spongebob/CW Netword) and my handhelds can only take me so far. Getting a system with CoD today and am so excited!

So anyone else play almost exclusively on the Gamepad only? That thing is a hidden blessing for older gamers...

Pro Tip: Buy a second TV (it´s not more expensive than a WiiU) and the best is, the games don´t look like shit.

I have ~100h in NintendoLand alone, and 3/4 of that has been on the Gamepad. That controller's been nothing short of a renaissance for me. Heck, the gamepad has been serving my needs so well that I can't be bothered to power on my ps3 to update my CFW.

LOL. That's a good one!

I play 90% of the time on GamePad only, it's even better than what you can expect... with CoD being the exception! Pick another game to enjoy the GamePad: wiimote controls are not to be missed in this game (though you can use wiimotes with the GamePad as your screen, but you see what I mean ;-)

Thanks for the feedback, lol to the "buy a second tv" comment!

I thought NintendoLand wasn't playable exclusively on the GamePad?

Any eShop games (gamepad exclusive) anyone wants to recommend?

Funny, I was so giddy last night about the prospect of getting my Wii U today that I couldn't sleep. Like a kid waiting for Christmas morning.

I find I do a lot better when the game is on the gamepad compared to on the TV. Being in-between my hands makes it click for me for some reason. Tho, now, when I'm playing on the TV, its all Wii-mote/nunchuck!

Trine 2. I've played it exclusively on gamepad and its awesome. Multiplayer too.
Or, if you've played that, Little Inferno is fun.

Thanks for the recommendations, haven't played either so I'll look at those tonight.

CoD is probably the game I'll pick up first. I've missed out on the last few years and have been wanting to play them badly. It seems that a lot of people are recommending Wii-mote/nunchuck to play which surprises me. Seems like people avoided this combo with FPS/TPS on the Wii, has the sensitivity been improved that much on the Wii U?

The wii-mote is customizable to the MAX in COD. there is cursor sensitivity, camer sensitivity, dead zone adjustments, ADS reach settings....point is, you'll have to mess with the settings to get where you feel comfortable.
