Wii U Satisfaction Thread

In my case the range of the Off-TV play is really limited, but I use it a lot to play while others are watching the TV for example. It allows me to play a lot considering the limited amount of time that I'm at home.

Picked up Batman AC: Armored Edition for $20 at Best Buy. Very well done port! Graphics are slightly better than PS3/360 with the frame rate usually at 30+ FPS. Sometimes going near 60 depending on the camera angle. No jaggies (that I can see.) No texture pop-in. No screen tearing. This is a far cry from what I saw of it at E3 last year (sub 30 and textures took forever to load). Major improvement.

Also has all of the DLC included, off TV Play and the most Gamepad support I've seen in any ported Wii U game so far. This includes the map, mini-games and sub-menus. Even your phone convos are done on the GamePad to help really bring you into the game. The new feature is Batman's new Armor which can absorb his punches until a meter turns blue. Then you touch the blue spot on the gamepad and he deals extra damage in his punches. If you don't have any of the DLC on your old copy, at $20 it's definitely worth double dipping.

P.S. Amazon is price matching it.

Are you playing at 720p? It's just that people had real frame rate problems with Batman at 1080. Or has it been patched?

I play Need For Speed off-screen a lot, but the game I use it with the most is Zen Pinball. It's just a perfect game for that feature, and the controller is really well designed for pinball.

The console feels like a mini OnLive server in your living room. Bigger range would of been nice, but sure the technology exists for that yet.

After finishing Lego City a couple of weeks ago my Wii U will probably will be collecting dust for awhile, Im not interested in anything coming up except maybe pikman 3 and not even so much that, its ok, I purchased it for the Nintendo games really and was expected, have other platforms.

I am very well satisfied with my Wii U, so I don't mean to shit up the thread, but how exactly are so many people enjoying off-TV play? I seriously can't leave the room without it cutting out. Are people living in dorm rooms or is there some special way to hook this up to make it work better?
I can't get that far in my house either, but it has been great for my son when he wants to play without turning the TV on (or if I want to watch/play something else).

One game I would never have spent more than an hour on without off TV is Little Inferno.
I completed it entirely while watching soccer games.

So far I have 15 titles: Zombi U, Batman, ME3, NFS:MW, AC3, Fifa, NintendoLand, NSMBU, Toki Tori 2, Little Inferno, Nano Assault, Trine 2, Chasing Aurora, Zen Pinball and FZero.

I spent 420 hours on the system in 5 months, including >200 hours on FIFA.

Needless to say I love the system and my satisfaction will only grow up with upcoming OS/miiverse enhancements + second salve of games.

I played a lot of Sonic Racing and Nintendo Land, on and off of the TV, and it felt great; even with groups of friends, etc. Now, we look at it and go, "Should we play Wii U, we haven't played it in a while." And then we go, "Meh.". I would really like something great to come out soon, Nintendo... :( I'm disappointed we haven't heard much about Pikmin 3 and The Wonderful 101.

I'm pretty sure the game is playing at 720P. I will say there are moments where if you're fighting a bunch of thugs and there's a lot of scenery around, it will slow down a bit. Not to Ninja Gaiden levels though (that game can go from 60 FPS to like playing underwater). Depends on the camera placement. I've had just as bad slowdown playing on PS3 at times. Mostly, it stays at 30 and above.

There is an odd glitch where sometimes the game won't finish it's initial load. Just a black screen and music. Has happened to me once so far.

Your Wii U though - is it set to 1080 or 720? A lot of people have said that Arkham's frame rate improves considerably when it's outputting at its native 720 & not having to worry about up-scaling. I wonder whether that is actually the case. I'm tempted to get the game next time I see it cheap enough (I own it on PS3 & PC already).

Best Buy has Batman for $19.99 with Free Shipping: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Batman:...205386&skuId=5682052&st=batman+wiiu&lp=7&cp=1

Finally got to play NintendoLand with 2 other friends. Mario Chase and Luigi's Mansion were a blast. Chase was their favorite. Can't wait for Wii Party U, as 'Party' games are usually out "go-to" when getting together every few months (we live relatively far from each other and one of them just went back to Mexico to continue studying medicine).

Since EU launch in November i have played

306 hrs and 47 mins

Mostly black ops 2 with the internet browser in strong second.

Games i own atm

Nintendoland (bundled)
ZombiU (disc)
Black Ops 2 (disc)
Lego City Undercover (disc)
Darksiders II (eshop)
Nfs: Most Wanted U (eshop)
Nano Assault Neo
Zen Pinball 2
Little Inferno
The Cave
Punch-Out
F-zero
Baloon Fight

Number of hardlocks
8
often in multiplayer and online stuff.

And also 1 incident where the system just went off and started blinking red. Had to unplug and wait 2 mins to plug in, then it worked again. Game played when it happened: blops2.

My current overall satisfaction.
8.1 of 10

1080P. I'm gonna try it at 720 and see if the framrate is better or not. But it's very good at 1080.

UPDATE: Framerate's the same I don't think it matter is I manually turn it to 720P as the game runs at that resolution.

Yeah range is an issue here too, I just moved the system to be near my exercise bike (vs in a completely different room before). Biggest pain is just the power adapter since I didn't bother with the rest of the cables cause there's no TV in that area. If I bring it to my room I'll probably do the same since I'll probably just watch something on TV while playing on the gamepad. This way I guess I'm basically relegating TV play for when my sister's kids come over (or whenever I get to a dual screen requiring game).

nice! Nintendoland has been the spotlight when I have friends at home. And as most of them are married couples with "no gamers wives", they have a lot of fun with the easier games.

I have my Wii U at 720.. and if the framerate is even worst in 1080, the first big fight is a slideshow! (its probably 15fps @ 720p)

You should get Puddle

Looks like I'm getting a brand spanking new Wii U for my birthday this week-end. I planned to buy one buy the end of the year, but because of MH and NSMBU I'm really excited anyway!!

Thing is, I think the wife may be buying the white one ("because the color goes better with our living room").

How big of a deal is this?

I do plan to buy some games digital (if the price is not horrendous), but don't you have to go for a ext. HDD anyway with the 32gig model sooner or later?

I have a Premium and I'd say I could have gotten away with a Basic one. If you are going to buy some big games digitally, then you'll get an HDD anyway. The extra plastic is OK but not really worth much IMO. You do get the 10% rebate with the premium but I find the prices on the eShop even with this are much more expensive than the shop I buy from anyway.

Mario Chase actually does what Lego City Undercover doesn't do - The chase part !

Seriously if Lego City made the chasing sequences as fun as Mario Chase then the game would get AAA scores !

In fact they should make a Lego City multi-player with Mario Chase elements !!!

I don't understand this comparison at all. Mario Chase is a multiplayer focused mini-game and Lego City is an open-world solo-player game. Can you explain what you mean because I'm at a lost.

Didn't want to start a new thread for this but it's april. Where is that firmware update? I sure would appreciate my Wii U more if it were speedier.

Well they said April, so it should be out by May 16th according to nintendo time.

So, where does one go to purchase download codes for eshop titles? I'd like to be able to get digital versions for retail prices instead of the eshop ones. Specifically, Batman. $20-$30 retail, $60 eshop... wth... eshop should be as cheap or cheaper; no brick and mortar overhead, physical production costs, or delivery fees.

I enjoy the hell out of my Wii U, but I'd like some price parity.

Publishers have control over eShop prices. Stores are more often the ones that drop prices to clear inventory, not the publisher.

Yeah, I'd thought about that and had come back to edit, but won't. I still wonder why publishers stick with the normal retail pricing. The games would sale better at a lower price point while retaining their profit margin per sale compared to brick and mortar. That means more profit overall. Steam has proven that.

If they sell them lower than retail, then everyone would just buy digital and physical stores wouldn't bother stock their games anymore.

PC gaming gets away with it since most of those stores don't stock PC games in the first place.

But those same retail stores take trade-ins and sale and resale the used games, undercutting the publishers drastically. So... why should the industry let themselves be bullied by another industry that exists as their parasite and would die without their product? Used game sales drive retail prices up as publishers have to maximize profit from the initial push, before the cheaper used copies steal their profit. I'd sale to non-trade in retailers and digital consumers at discounted prices, more sales and more money making its way back to the devs.

Screw the parasites that make up the used game industry, they don't support the development community and make games more expensive for us gamers.

Edit: I think I may be turning into a crotchety old man...

If companies did block used games, it could possibly pave the way to cheaper digital price. It's all a balancing act in the current market.

I got a basic, because I realized that (A) eventually, somebody will find a way to make it so that disc-based games can be copied to and run from a hard drive as happened with the Wii, and (B) I just bought Batman for $20. A 66⅔% discount is much better than the 10% rebate I'd get with the deluxe deal. The downside is that I've been lazy about getting an external enclosure for the SATA drive I plan to use for the Wii U, so I have to wait a while before I get another big eShop game (probably The Cave). Oh no, I'm forced to delay spending money.

Oh, and (C) the basic includes NintendoLand if you buy it in some places, like Best Buy.

(pre-post edit, I see that the retail cost benefit has already been chattered about)

Got one today, really surprised by Miiverse and the nice eShop and the overall design.
But damn you guys weren't kidding about the slowness of the OS.

The pad looks a lot better in hands.
I got it for 199€ and the guy also sent a wiimote+nunchuk and already had dl'ed Trine 2. Haha.

Now to buy Toki Tori 2 *_*

Nn id : Shahadan

(I need friends :p )

On games were the gamepad offer some enhancements like map and items when played on the TV, how is the off tv handled?

Mainly interested in ME3, AC3 and Batman AC.

Thanks for the impressions! Makes me really upset I didn't pick it up the other week and instead got the 360 version.

If the port plays that well now, I'm excited to pick up Arkham Origins on Wii U this fall.

Anyone know if Walmart will price match the game? My local best buy won't have the game in stock till after the sale

Bullshit.

If I didn't have the opportunity to trade in games and get a decent amount of store credit, I wouldn't have the money to buy new games. For example, yesterday I finished up Bioshock Infinite. I traded it in towards a pre-order of Injustice and got about $39 store credit. Why? Because Gamestop offers an extra 30% towards certain new and upcoming games. They promote new games just as heavily if not more so as they do used.

If you want a game at a good price new, wait for a sale. There's always one usually within the first week or two. They happen all the time. Just don't be one of those guy who's like "Eh. I'll wait a year so it drops to $19.99" Thoes guys don't help the game industry at all.

Why would it be my duty to "help" the game industry?

now Bit Trip runner 2 is out in EU, does it support outputting the audio through the gamepad while you play on the tv? like can you listen to it through headphones plugged into the gamepad while you play on the tv?

Couldn't think of a better thread to ask this in, and didn't think it warranted creating a new one...

Do any of you have any suggestions for an external hard drive for the system? I know that certain ones don't work because of certain specifications, and that some work better than others, etc.

Any tips?

I'd recommend just getting one of the Nintendo approved ones to be safe. That's what I did.

http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wiiu/en_na/external_usb_devices.jsp

Generally you want one that has it's own power source, not powered by USB. Some people have had luck using a Y connector but you'd be taking a chance.

I have this and a Y cable. Works great, and is nice and small.
