Wii U Satisfaction Thread

:o

I feel like a broken record at this point, but if you've never played ZombiU or MH Tri Ultimate, you're definitely missing out on some good fucking gaming.

Which version would be better to buy? I can't decide if I want to buy that game for 3ds as soon as I get one, or wait a few months longer for the wiiu version when I buy that system instead. I guess I should find a monster hunter thread to ask in. I assume there's a community one....

I own both, but definitely get the Wii U version if it's your only option. Online play really does make Monster Hunter. Having the game on a portable is lovely for taking it on my daily commute, but it's not worth sacrificing online in my opinion. The Wii U has superior controller options as well, without resorting to the CPP.

No questions asked, Wii U version. 3DS has no online play, smaller screen which is not ideal, and the biggest problem is the lack of any analog sticks (one analog slider lol)

No one in the right mind would recommend 3DS ver. over Wii U

I am looking into buying a Wii u in the coming months but i was wondering if there is a composite cable in the box or if not where can i buy one (europe)? Because our HD tv is almost always occupied and like to switch to the sd tv in another room or station it there sometimes.

Using WiiU call for the first time right now. Works pretty damn well actually.

I used it about a week ago and was pleasantly surprised by how well it worked. I don't know that I'll use it that often, but it's nice to know it's good if I need to.

Oh, yeah, there's no doubt in my mind I want the console, if that's what you're asking. I plan on getting both the wiiu and the 3ds within a year of now. Between the nintendo first party lineup and the wave of cross-generation 3rd party 360/ps3 ports I can no longer play on my dead, out of warranty 360, there are plenty of games I want on the wiiu. It's just that I definitely won't double-dip for this game, so I wanted to make an informed decision about which version.

Definitely the WiiU version, it's superior in every aspect except portability. Looks better, controls better, has [better] online.

When super smash brothers eventually convinces my friends to buy a wiiu, will there be voice chat? I heard it's through the gamepad and not a headset? how well does that work?

Ghouls'n Ghosts made me proud of my young self. Can't believe I reached the end of the game without cheating.

That being said, restore points FTW :)

Composite? I don't think there is. HDMI for sure. Given your situation though, Off-TV Play could be helpful :)

Generally quiet from my experience, but you can use a headset if you wish.

I'm sitting at my desk with my Wii U in Off-TV mode playing Mario's Super Picross and it's a damn good way to play the game. Are there any other titles around which you can play without having to constantly look at the screen? An SRPG would be nice but there aren't any right?

Any suggestions for a way to clean off the Gamepad screen? Mine has gotten a bit of dust and such on it over the past month (not a "lol dusty Wii U" joke, just literally has a tiny bit of dust). Thinking of just using a soft cloth, like what you'd use to clean prescription glasses. Any other ideas/suggestions?

Little inferno is worth it's price
if you manage to get it at a discount because it's been on sale for 5€ a couple of times already
though it's less a game and more a digital toy but still really entertaining.

best cleaner I've used: http://www.officedepot.ca/Computer-Cloths-Wipes-and-Dusters/Exponent-Microport-Magic-Cleaner-and-Protector-77205.asp

Only used it on my 3ds as I haven't got my wii u yet, but it really is great stuff (raspberry jam yo!).

After about 15 hours of using the system total it won't turn on anymore. Fuck consoles anymore. I can't even send it back yet because I'm moving in 4 weeks and I don't want it returned to my old address.

Have you tried leaving it completely unplugged from the wall for half an hour, and if it doesn't resurrect it, for a few hours overnight? It's some kind of surge protection from the power brick but if the solution doesn't work, your unit was DoA. Anyway, they usually don't take more than a week to send it back, and don't forget to mention you have a NNID so they can migrate your Wii purchases (in case you did a transfer) and de-auth your NNID so you can log in the new one.

It is the blinking red light problem. The first thing I tried was changing wall sockets. But it has been 2 days left alone and unplugged, so I'll try that next. The problem is that I have a game stuck in it.

When you say 'constantly look at the screen', do you mean the TV? If so, there are a lot of off-tv games. All the VC games, most indie games, NSMBU, NFS:MW, Assassin's Creed III, Resident Evil Revelations, Injustice, Sonic Racing Transformed, CoD, Monster Hunter 3, Tekken Tag Tournament 2, etc. etc. etc.

No problem, just don't forget to mention all details to Tech Support (so they don't forget it) and they'll just ship it on a plastic sleeve with the new console. It happened to me too and the experience with NoE tech support was top notch (aside for the week I couldn't play).

I think he means games where you can organically take breaks without having to pause.

New minor update (3.0.1U)

Anything noticable different? Says: Further improvements to overall system stability and software compatibility.

man, yesterday I finally had the time to seriously play Runner 2. Gamepad only with headset...simply GREAT (both Runner2 and the Offtv function)

Had my WiiU for a couple of weeks now. I really like it, it just needs games. NSMBU is really great, the level design is brilliant.

My GF has been playing through Lego City which looks loads of fun, I'd have started it already but I've been trying to finish Splinter Cell HD Collection and Paper Mario so I didn't want to take too much on at once.

Miiverse is totally awesome, such a cool idea and it will be great when we can create our own communities. So yeah, I'm liking it so far. It doesn't deserve the sheer hate it gets.

Runner 2 is brilliant and it seems to be doing rather well, at least on miiverse: its community is bigger than Trine 2.

Toki Tori 2 needs some love though, I'm surprised so few people seem to have it (again looking at miiverse). Are there people here, who would not heartily recommend it?!?

I have also Toki Tori 2 and it's another brilliant game. Probably the issue is that it's hard, to be understood and played. Btw, Two Tribes wasn't so sad about the sales (I've read an article where they say that is selling "ok")

Update live here in europe too, I have the impression, that quitting a game and returning to the Wii U Menu became a little bit faster then it already was with 3.0.0, but this can also be wishful thinking from my side.

Runner 2 seems to do what it wants with the high scores.
I rank 2nd on a level, then find a way to add more dance moves and in the end get a score noticeably lower, sometimes that kind of thing is just perception but I watched a video on twitch and the guy end up surprised by the same thing, so I'm a bit cautious.
Not a great idea also to put the dance move available in world 2, it's a waste of time when trying scoring in first world, though the top3 was a warning signal.

I know people love the Off TV play and it is a nice feature, I love it too.

But the basic gamepad implementation of having the menu, map, items, etc on the gamepad and having the entire TV screen for the game without anything is really spoiling me. Seems like a rather simple thing when you hear about it, but experiencing it is at another level. It really inmmerses you in the game, and the gamepad seems like a tool you have in the game.

I experienced it in ZombiU but I was to scared to notice. Now that I am playing AC3 and I activated the gamepad enhancement (yes wierd it is not on by default), I am reallyy inmersed in this game. Lego City should have used this and take all HUD elements out of the TV.

So the gamepad will have 3 uses that I see:

1. Basic stuff implementation like map, items, menu, etc: like I said before if it clears the screen of every HUD element it serves for great inmersion. This feature receives less credit than it deserves and I beleive that you have to experience it to get how valuable it is.
2. Off TV play: been able to play some games while you watch a game, news or something else is great.
3. Crazy implementations I hope we get in the future: well everything counts here and I expect Game & Wario to be the first to have creative use of the gamepad, cannot wait for that game, plus at that price is a no brainer.

i didn't see much of an improvement but im guessing you just updated to 3.0.1 which has been out for a few days now.

I'm not sure what version I've updated too. It was a very small update but switching between apps feels just a little snappier. Maybe it's the placebo effect lol

I fancied playing through Arkham City again, and the Wii U version is super cheap right now, so I thought I'd pick it up.

...is there a way to turn off the armoured costumes? They're hideous compared to the original outfits.

I own both but the 3ds one feels more like a complement to the WiiU version. I transfer a character to the 3ds when Im going Away and do some grinding, the real fun is the online mp anyways.

Im starting to get spoiled with this too. I really love this feature. Its how I play MH3U.

The benefits of the gamepad and its screen are legion IMO... and really need to be experienced in order to be appreciated. Once you have it, you really don't want to be without it.

I mean, anyone that played something like NFL 2K on Dreamcast already knew that having a second off-TV screen to use can completely change how a videogame plays (VMU playcalling in football is still one of the greatest things ever), but now with something that's got reasonable resolution and touch capability... there are really a LOT of uses, and the basic ones won't really get old!

I just picked it up a week ago for the same reason. And yes, you can skip the armored suit (for the most part) by entering a quick code each time you start your game. The Official Thread has instructions.

But there are certain pre-rendered moments when you'll have to see the armored suit... plus you evidently can't change Catwoman's appearances in Batman's storyline, so you'll have to look at her armored model when she shows up.

Awesome, cheers for the tip! :)

I played through ACIII with no hud on the TV and it was awesome (ok, sometimes I played on the gamepad with hud lying in my bed)

I used the WiiU bc the last days to play Super Mario galaxy 2 again (anticipating E3). somehow my savegames from the Wii got transferred too although I read they aren't. But I won't complain about it

What? All saves get transferred as well.
